  • It's interesting that Elves look down on men so much, yet they killed their own kind and rebelled against the Valar. Interesting twist on who is more noble.

  • ...is this someone's idea of a project for what passes for english literature these days?

  • "Say farewell to your mother, she'll be back in an hour with the groceries."

  • Why are they wearing Anakin Skywalker costumes? lol

  • So I watched the trailer, and this looks really cool! I was looking for random videos of Beren and Luthien, the Song of Beren and Luthien, and other ways to explain to a friend the whole story. It's been my inspiration for a long time, and some of my wedding music in a couple of months will include LOTR music, with the song about Tinuviel when Arwen appears at Minas Tirith in Return of the King! So now I'm gonna start watching this film...looks good!

  • Did the d***head who put this crap together ever read "The Silmarillion"? It is wrong, in detail after detail. If you want to make a fan movie, however amateurishly, PLEASE be accurate. Is it about Beren or Turin, for God's sake?

  • I'd hardly say a few plot changes for the sake of adaptation make the film anything like the story of Turin. Watch the whole movie before you make a comment like that, and I think you'll find its essentially quite close to Tolkien.

  • oh - except that i wish that everyone had worn wigs for long "elvish" hair lol. but thats a minor detail. great job again : )

  • awesome job peeps : )

  • ok, seriously, you need to fix your trailer. it did not do your film justice, not one bit.

even though my very critical mind still wants a perfect film adaptation of this story. but you guys put in so much effort. good job!

  • WTF... its so cheap, but i like it... O.O

  • You done this really good, but one small thing, you should have tried diffrent music, something more epic. But I supose this will do just fine.

  • I said nothing about sex. I'm saying that the portrayal of Beren and Luthien - in this intro - is incongruent with the theme of their tale. Their love was strong enough that Luthien gave up her immortality; I doubt that she would have ignored Beren as she does here, or that Beren would mutter "Tinuviel" with a hint of scorn in his voice upon seeing her back turned to him. This video makes it look like a failing 21st century American marriage. But aside from that, I think the work here is superb.

  • Ok, perhaps some clarification on the scene's nature is in order:

    1. Luthien doesn't actually see him. For all the audience knows, she just woke up to brush her hair, and knows that Beren is off on his morning walk, so she hasn't missed him. He's quiet enough to come back without causing a stir.

    2. Beren just acquired news of Thingol's death and the fall of Doriath; not exactly happy tidings. I don't think he'd run into her arms exclaiming happily "hey honey, guess what, your dad's dead!"

  • LOL, I suppose not, no... :)

  • You guys did a very good job on this. There's one thing I would have done differently though. When Beren comes back to Tol Galen, it looks like they're not too thrilled to see each other. Luthien seems to be giving him the "silent treatment," and Beren seems to be thinking, "Why did I marry this b*tch?" Obviously, Beren's monologue explains what he's really thinking, but in "reality," I think they would have been all over each other, especially with him coming back to her from war.

  • Pspboy7 was right, you need to do Children of Hurin ;) I'm waiting for this ;)

  • I did make the Children of Hurin! I did it a long time ago, so the quality is a few levels down from B&L...but check it out in my profile! Its called "Master of Doom."

  • I don't know, I think the intro was well done, with the kinslaying and all, and the part with Beren and Luthien shown in the beginning was kinda cool with the transition into the main focus of the story. Hard to be too critical when this was made by a amateur group of people. Not that I'm dissing their effort, they put alot of heart into this movie considering how long it is. They even recruited some adults too I see which shows their devotion to the tale and their spirit in the telling of it.

  • You guys need to do the Children of Hurin next :)

  • I'm confused about who the people attacking Doriath at the beginning are supposed to be.

  • In the book Doriath is attacked by the Dwarves first the by the Sons of Feanor while Dior is king.

  • check out my Beren and Luthien short film

  • Elo! Mudassech beleg atham menn .. im meren an cened i threnarn hen .. le hannon, mellon nîn.

  • 'Farewell sweet earth and northern sky, for ever blest, since here did lie and here with lissom limbs did run beneath the Moon, beneath the Sun, Lúthien Tinúviel more fair than mortal tongue can tell. Though all to ruin fell the world and were dissolved and backwards hurled unmade into the old abyss, yet were its making good, for this--- the dusk, the dawn, the earth, the sea--- that Lúthien for a time should be.''
  • Wow... I am completely blown away by the amount of dedication/effort you guys put into this production! I made a 4 minute long music video with a cast of 9 and it was murder trying to coordinate schedules/costumes etc. In this first section, I can see you guys did an incredible amount of planning! The costumes alone deserve mega-kudos, I really like them! They're simple but they work!

  • Quick question- was Beren's mother (Emeldir)'s death cannon or not? How on earth did you motivate and organise all these people??! I'm highly impressed...

Nice special effects too with Gorlim's ghost wife. And Steve's acting is great as always!

  • The intro seemed too long. Especially when Beren approached Luthien to tell her of her father's death. It was kind of confusing. His line implies a drastic change in the storyline. I was freaking out until I found out it wasn't the beginning of the story.

Nice transition between "present" to "past."

Gorlim is awesome. "What if she returns and I am not here?" This line captures his character right away. "And now they hunt us like wild beasts." Delivered very well.

    Torture scene very believable.

  • For a bunch of kids you did an amazing job. The amount of work you put in this is clear. Who says fantasy can't be done cheaply? I hope you continue to make films. You should consider submitting this to contests.
