I love you Karl...you saw it all before your time...and I just wish I could hug you and say thank you...because I almost didn't survive a whole lot of times between Ship of Fools and today, but you, honey, you helped me stay here, and I love you, and you are and will always be so beautiful...♥
@Medusafern I played "Dumbing Up" pretty much all the time when I was going through my divorce, and I swear that album pulled me through it all. It's still one of my favourite albums by anyone today.
@gibbo1968 thats not nice.. I suggest you read wiki... the dude has been ill... I'd like to see you come through what he has and still be as good a singer/song writer as him.. as for the waterboys.. ha no hope, Wallingers output over the years has far outstripped the waterboys in quantity and quality, dont like his stuff, dont listen, simple.
yer tit i like both and i was askin a simple question thats why i said leg-end it's a slang for legend. And i didn't know he'd been ill hence me askin the question, don't judge next time.
@gibbo1968 my apologies, sorry, I dont get slang, I thought you were being rude :-( (not being sarcastic or anything but genuine here) I really thought leg end was something not nice and when you asked where KW is now I thought that too was a kind of 'ha look at him now! long gone and maybe if the Waterboys do reunion money gigs' kind of response. Really I am sorry, I didnt realise it was a question or that leg end is slang,I do so agree though, he is indeed a Legend,
to me the voice of karl is not very good to be honest. that s maybe as well why world party wasnt that big. listen to his voice and compare it to robbie williams. to me karl should sing louder, sometimes he is not getting the right melody as well, or is shivering with his voice. there s not much power innit, in this song is really explosive soo.......... i know that all of you world party fans will hate this comment, but its the way it is. great honour to his talents in songwriting but not more
@Rockferry2008 Hmmm... singing is a taste thing, methinks. I enormously prefer Wallinger's "shivering" (read: emotion) to Williams's breathiness (cookie-cutter and boring). Wallinger isn't Josh Groban, but... you know, I don't own any Josh Groban. I wonder why? I love Wallinger's voice singing his own songs.
Saw him in Glasgow a while back and he stopped midway through to say that the difference between him and RW was that he knew who "she" was! Class act.
Easily one of the best love songs of all-time. Karl Wallinger is a pop genius. Robbie Williams' version, in comparison, is plain insipid. And is that Supergrass' Danny Goffey on drums?
One of the true British songwriting talents of the last 25 years. Perfect pop music with great spirit and soul. The natural heir to Lennon & McCartney. Timeless...
Hahaha wonderful.... I was looking up karl wallinger songs after listening to the Big Blue Ball album.... and now I find out that indeed Williams didn't even bother with giving the song something of his own... nope just copy paste jackpot!! It's nice to finally see who is behind this beautiful song
Ironically this song ang and the royalties he earned from Robbie helped keep him afloat when he was disabled by his aneurysm. I love Karl more than I can say. I am so glad he's back. Love the lyrics, love the melodies love the performances
karl wallinger (aka world party)he wrote this song as well.he used to be a member of the waterboys.needless to say, robbie williams did a note-for-note version of this and it went gold:-)
He eventually got the royalties once the record company gave the rights back. Took a fight though. Karl was seriosuly ill but then he recoevered and made money off this song, enough as he says to put his kids through university.
@fsandc Guy Chambers (a world party-er) was Robbie williams "co"-writer for most of his success which is why robbie did an OK version of this. Not a patch on the original though obviously but i would hope that a lot of people got onto world party because of it...
such a well crafted song!

Robbie's version is exactly the same.apart from robbie horrible voice..so i can;t see how it can be considered better or worst..

Karl Wallinger is an incredible and under-rated song writer. Must stock up on some of his back catalogue. Beautiful music..

At least Karl would have got the lions share of the royalties though, he probably made a packet from that cover!
