I have to disagree about David Goldflies ... a very talented bass player for sure but he had a terrible tendency for over-playing and his style was not right for the band. His playing was far more "intrusive" than it should have been in my opinion. Berry Oakley was the real deal.
Dangerous Dan Toler is playing with our Band The Peaceful Revolution at docs music hall on Friday Oct. 1st 2010! If you're around Indiana come join us!
@myfrst100yrs David Goldflies is the best bass player, I have ever seen, second only to Berry Oakley. It's a shame he isn't with the current Brothers ensemble as he and Dangerous Dan were a killer addition to the band so many years ago.
Naw man, that solo is pretty sick. I wasn't watching when he started playing and because of his bends I thought it was a guitar with an odd effect (at least an odd effect for the Allmans).
@TheStealer69 YES!!!!! Exactly...this was my time zone(late '70's early '80's) You will only hear this type o blues from then!!! Brings back some great- ass memories (shaboo in willimantic ct. all star band, b. will smith etc...JOhn in new england
I am going to have to say that Gregg's voice is probably at his best here. Older and more mature sounding then his earlier days but not too scratchy and aged like it is nowadays.
Dengie75, dig deep into the warren derek lineup, its actually pretty phenomenal at times. but the lineup in this video is very underrated personally. Dangerous Dan Toler's Solo on Whippin' Post Gainesville 82' is incredible.
I don't know what videos you've been watching but the line up with warren and derek is amazing. It is a different band but they can do things this lineup can't. Probably vise versa.
The band is different now, but as good as ever! I saw 2 of the beacon shows this year, otiel burbridge is significantly better than David Goldflies, its not even close, and butch is better now than he was in 82
The reason they had all that energy back then was because they were so 'amped up' but somehow maintaining dynamic. But that was back in the days that coke was not addicting.
pigboycooter, coke was addicting then. always has. and they were addicted at one point. duane had even checked into rehab shortly before the please be with me takes he did with Cowboy.
It is a joke my friend. None of us knew better back then. we were stupid and naive and we didn't have all the knowledge you kids are blessed with today. when i was 17 if you didn't get high you were a square. Thank God it's the other way around now. Alot of us never came back due to resulting health issues or jail etc. Now when I goitnto the studio I see Health water instead of the bag of dope. I'm sorry to anyone else I may have offended
I like this lineup better than the current one, Now im not comparing the to Derek and Warren but i think these guys had more energy, Especially Dan Toler !!
Im going to agree with the energy, the tempos back in the day were much more lively. However, when it comes down to playing... it doesnt get much better than Warren and Derek! Im NOt bashing the old lineup, I love this, its just that when it comes to ability, I think that when it comes down to playing the current lineup has the edge.
Yea, I prefer my "Rythmn and Blues played on traditional instruments. Synthesizers work well for bands like ELP or Yes, but not for a band like the Brothers. This is just another in the begining of misguided steps by the ABB to "modernize" their sound. This is how they ended up "Reaching for the Sky."
Gregg is playing the B-3. I was referring to Mike Lawler, who is playing keyboards on the opposite side of the stage. He takes a synth solo beginning at 2:22.
I was at this show. If I remember correctly this was a benefit concert for a florida teen that was in an accident and had serious bills to pay. I believe all of the money was stollen that night. NOT BY THE BAND. I never seen so many Georgia and Alabama plates in another state. What a great time.
Thank God I'm a country girl!!! Greg is the hotest Rock-a-billy singer ever! Gotta love him, look at that hair, now put him on a Harley and I'd hang on for dear life and never let him go!!!
Just a pity that the hair is grey now and Gregs a bit thin on top, but he's still the hottest blues man in the world. (in my opinion) for what it's worth.
I saw Springsteen a couple of years ago and left early. Thank God my tix were free! There is no comparing E Street to ABB except to say they are both "bands".
Hey "ternader" Fucking right on! "pantyhoseheadvagina" got shit for brains...man those panty hoses are chocking the air from your brain. Comparing E Street Band to ALLMAN BROS. with DUANE ..is no contest PLEASE!!
OH by they way "mootboxie" are you related to this clown too? That's not Greg on the moog you idiot...you're another asswhole
pantyhosehead vagina !!??...what f,in planet did you arrive from?...and whats the commercial e street band got to do with the Allman bros band?.....get a brain [or a head] transplant and forget about vaginas...OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUSLY DELUDED PRE PUBESCENT aMERICAN PSYCHO.....FROM Mick in Derry City..Ireland.

Springsteen's E Street Band is as tight, or THE tightest, but for my $, this band, E Street are equals all around: arrangments, composition, performance, longetivity and importance to American popular culture. Rock ON!
Without a doubt the tightest band in the history of rock/blues. These guys are all great musicians. Imagine if Duane and Berry had lived full lives---as great as they were/are how great could they have been ?
first time i heard this song was a version by al kooper and either mike bloomfield or steve stills (need to look it up) on the "super session" album...now i need to find out who wrote it originally...kooper's version was very different - lots of phasers and reverb and stuff..find the album.
In my top 10 songs of all time. The 19 minute version on "Live at Filmore East" is the one I'm referring to in both this and the above comment. Peace to the Bros!!
This song makes my heart race and a smile is formed across my face(hey, that rhymes!) I almost cry when Dickey Betts comes in. Wish I were alive in 1982, if I was I'd be within walking distance of where they played, the Bandshell!!!! Go Gators!!
Love It!!!
