Ideally you would really want the font leg to be bouncing slightly to assist the take off on a grass field. the only way we could think of doing this was to move the C of G back slightly which as you can see helped the takeoff.. hope this helps
Hello, we went to saddle tanks to move the C of G back slightly to take the pressure of the front strut so it would not compress so much on take off. Compressing the front strut when using sprung wire leg or a shockered leg will cause the angle of attack to the ground to be slightly negative which make the plane extremely hard to rotate.
I have just put saddle tanks in the Spectre and moved the C of G back further (on a full tank). It should take off even easier now.. Will post new videos of it in the next couple of weeks....
My Spectre has a Ramtec fan and an OS91 (round head motor) running on 10% nitro, 5% caster, 3% synthetic oil. These jets are hard to find, this one was built from a kit some 18 flights ago. its in brilliant condition -
Hi Lozzie74, I was over ducted fan jets as well until now. I tried many other jets and had no success with grass take off's, A friend of mine said to me if you find a trim aircraft Spectre, it will fly awesome and will take of on a grass field.. He was right!
CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so jealous! I have an unbuilt Spectre, waiting for me to crack the ducted fan game. I'm a capable pilot, but lack a good take-off surface. Recent experiments with an AMD Hawk from a road went badly wrong. I'm encouraged by your grass take-off (would have been great if the camera actually caught it). What is your power system?
