Totally wrong way of building a shelter, firstly you should have more upward sticks stabilising the whole thing as in high wind it will fall down very easily. The leafy branches should either be weaved onto the upright sticks so any rain water flows off the leaves and onto the floor outside, or laid downwards over the sticks to prevent any wind blowing through the structure. Secondly it should be in a well covered place that acts as a wind break.

There are allot of problems with this shelter, bud. First off, branches are grown like house shingles, to repel water downwards, your best bet for making a roof is to weave the branches, starting from the bottom with the leaves facing down towards the ground, not sideways. Next thing, you can use dead fall and other things to make a better shelter, like a lean-to. Using what you have is good, but this shelter is not the best idea.

Sorry mate, but that shelter is terrible.

Your supporting tree is too narrow for starters. A much wider tree would provide a better windbreak, at least 3 times the width of your body. The structure is to weak and too light. Much heavier supports should have been used and you should have at least interlocked your branches/foliage better.

That is not good as if the wind changes, all the branches will blow out. At least finish the shelter and advise them to lay more branches up against the outside to prevent this. Better is to find a felled tree and branch the side of it. Better still, carry a space-blanket or glue/fold/glue the edges to make a space-bag. It will fit in any pocket.
