  • Lovely version.

  • Thanks for this.

  • The men they couldn't hang were a great group, but sadly they existed in the shadow of the Pogues, colours is another great track

  • I'll just have a little cry

  • love this song now and loved it when they first brought it out .... the guitar sounds so

melodic, defo the best version for me :)

  • sen them in the Venue Aberdeen 1985 anyone remember that one? great live

  • Really good version but i prefer the Dropkick Murphys version !

  • My favorite version of this astonishing song, one of the most impressive about the first World War...wonderful music and words.

  • Eric Bogle-the version of the man, himself-and there are a few others that are really great-this is basically ok-Dropkick Murphys version is not so good.

  • brillant !

  • ...the killing, the dying it was all done in vain....for young willie mcbride oh it happened again...AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!

  • To me this is simply the greatest and only version. Lucky enough to see it live in March this year and just love it. A great bunch of guys as well.

  • Dropkick Murphys version is by far the best but this is still one hell of a good version

  • Did they pipe the flowers of the forest

  • this is a nice relaxed version.Still a little more partial to the Dropkick Murphy's version but this is still a good one.

  • the first time i saw them was at reading the pouges where head lining in the 80;s tmtch blow them of the stage

  • Great SONG! Great Band! THANKS!!

  • Fantastic stuff. Takes me back a few years. sad they never made it bigger.

  • brilliant

  • Stella,s all time favourite...beautiful Stefan....See u at Wickham...June x

  • Agreed with all before: best version out there.

  • Good "Bob Dylan" feeling on this track .-)

  • Always makes me cry.

  • For me this is the best version of this song. Probably because it's the one I heard first...and then? I honestly think Men They Couldn't Hang's version is the most melodic of all the versions out there.

  • @Asmoharg hmmm try the corries version, more melodic

  • @Asmoharg I agree, I've heard the Dropkick Murphys version and I just love this one because you can really picture lots of WWI in the way the song is played. I've always thought this song should play after a large massacre in a war movie.

  • sniff. sniff. * wipes tears from eyes *

    Always gets me this version.

  • beautiful song, beautiful lyrics.

  • thank you so much for this

  • I remember being in Stan Brennan's record shop when he played this and Stan's mate Tom (who wrote Navigator) asking Cush what had happened to his voice...

  • Saw them in 1986 live and this 12 inch i long since lost thanks for reminding me what a great song it was.

  • I've been looking for this version for many years, it's such a powerful anti-war song. Many thanks for uploading!

  • The greatest anti war song that also pays tribute to the bravery...a thin line...also the finest version of the song that is out there. Eric Bogle is a genius as a song writer.

  • Seen these live about eight times always a great show with a fantastic atmosphere.

  • and theyre still dying in the name of that fucking royal family! great powerful song!

  • @fightbackordie Yes mate, and more and more people are experiencing a true awakening now, would you agree ?

  • Most under-rated band of the 80s

  • ahh wow nice one the skiprat,i used to follow these back in the day, themselves and the pogues used to always be on the same bill, around the irish pubs in london, before they both had cut a record, memories thanks mate !!!!!

  • @TheCoolmc48

Those were the days! The Cricketers and all that.

  • no problem guys, im trying to upload anything i have thats not here already. you keep watching and commenting and ill keep uploading

  • forgot all about this till now, I used to play this all the time when I was in the military then, great upload thanks skiprat.

  • The best version of a great song

  • bloody brilliant. takes me back
