  • A much easier way to field dress deer is to actually use a field dressing knife designed for field dressing. The Viscerator by FieldTorq Knives, check it out. Take a 10 minute job down to 3. Never puncture the intestines or bladder. Safest knife I've ever used. Videos are on YouTube.

  • I think you have gone to great lengths to keep the body intact. I usually skin the animal and quarter it. If you slice the body throat to pelvis it seems to go much faster. Don't get me wrong, it is a good video for beginners and i understand you would normally perform this affield and if you live in a warm climate it must be done quickly to cool the meat as fast as possible. I don't like the fact that the head is still on and i am very picky about the bladder. Good video.

  • Thank You! Just getting into deer hunting and this was a great help.

  • and you will find it a lot easier doing it in the feild

  • and......this is gralloching........not dressing, dressing is after the gralloch when you prepare in for hanging or for going to a game dealer or whatever

  • i know this is a video for learners but honestly, a lot of this is total shite, dont need string for anything, jst a knife and the mount of time you wait trying to hang it up and all the rest, i could have done it in fucking in about 1 min 30 secs. and you can do it in the field after its shot, cos leaving it in tht long is not good for the carcase

  • Wow this is the longest VID ever .......I seen one were guy did all this plus skin and cut all the meat off in 9 min Wtf... is he doing .....

  • What do you next? do you age the animal for a few days before you butcher?

  • hmm..never hung a deer to gut it. always on the ground and always cut the balls and penis away first, then the arse. i am curious what is all this level one and level 2 stuff?? im from u.s.a.

  • @threehvacguys Yeah my father said that too. I think it's just a American thing.

  • great the best video on the subject i could find. Thanks this is my first year hunting and i will be sure to use your technique

  • Why not just cut off the legs shoulders and other good parts without skinning and gutting it?

  • @seanSgray That's wasteful. There's good meat around the ribs and back and hips. It's best to just gut the deer (this guy makes it seem harder than what it really is). Besides, you can eat the liver and heart, good meat there!

  • This is how I field dress my large game today. Where were you when I shot my first deer? being inexperienced, I made a mess out of my deer. This will help the first timer for sure who doesn't have a dad to show them the right way. Thank you

  • Very helpful video. Although I am going on my first deer hunt with my dad (who knows how to field dress deer,) it's good for me to have a visual idea of what to do so I can do a cleaner, better job, on my first deer. Once the deer is at this stage in your video, what's next? skin the deer? Do you then cut up the deer in sections or just take the entire deer for processing?

    Thanks for the great video.

  • I have just watched both parts 1 and 2. Thank you, they are very instructional and useful to me as I am just about to start deer stalking. I have a very good and experienced mentor but to see the gralloch being done as you have shown it is a great starting point. I will obviously have to watch them a few times but you have helped me out no end.

    Once again - Thank you!

  • man, you truly need a sharper knife

  • Thanks for posting this. Very infromative

  • Hullo Comrade,

please, could you make a video showing how to tlay and after to tan the leather?

    Many thanks.

    Stefano

  • how long had the deer been dead before you started this? we hit a deer with a car and didn't find it till a day and a half after and it got all fat and we were told it was no good that it was to be thrown out right away. the deers stomach fot all green and yucky...

  • how long had the deer been dead before you started this? we hit a deer with a car and didn't find it till a day and a half after and it got all fat and we were told it was no good that it was to be throughn out right away.

  • Nice video, very simple, nothing complex, like the 2 ends explanation it really cleared that up. I was reading your comments to the other guy about the requirements in the UK, are they expensive? You mentioned people who could afford it. I complain about the US gun laws, but imagine a world where gov't charges high prices for the privilege to eat from the wild. Those who most need it can't hunt.

  • i am from north dakota and i hunt all year.. bow hunting. using a shotgun. rifle hunting and muzzleloader.. this is by far the worst dressing of a deer i have ever seen and its taken the longest time. there is no reason to "tie off" the ass and esophagus. all this can be done within 2 mins in the field after the deer has been freshly harvested. this british man has taken steps not necessary in the deer cleaning process

  • Great educational video. Thanks much. Showed my 14 year old son who will be hunting with me for the first time this year. Its given him a good idea of what needs to be done in the field after deer is brought down.

  • Grate Job! That's how is done!

  • LOL @ 4:48 is probably what it would look like to be double-fisting Pam Anderson.

  • I must say this is not good practice the deer should be gralloched in the field as soon as pos within say 30 mins ,the masenteric lymph nodes should be checked, red offal should be done at the larder this would not pass DMQ 2

  • @steveja777

Sorry mate this video was never designed to be for people who are training to pass level 2.

This is the basics of how to cleanly field dress a deer for people how have no experience and are from around the world ( i explained this in the first video ) not just people who can afford to pass level 2 in the UK.

Nor was this video to show how to inspect for disease. I also did the gralloching in the larder so that people can see clearly, take a look down at all the positive comments

  • @steveja777 Whilst I agree with you that it is imperative to gralloch a deer in the field, check the lymph nodes for disease and abnormality (something that does means nothing to the untrained) and ensure that the animal is bled, this is still however an informative video performed under more controlled conditions and could still benefit those who might be unsure.

Personally I could not do it hanging (even though I've done pigs that way). It just seems so much easier on the ground.

  • @steveja777 what the hell is "gralloched in the field",and also, what the hell is "red offal" and what is a "larder"?......i half-way got the lymp node thing, but i have no idea where the masenteric lymp's are in a deer.......and last but not least...what is DMQ2?..........you'll have to excuse me,as i am american and when we shoot a deer we usually eat it raw with the fur still on.......i thought offal was shit.......

  • beautiful job my friend. although i find laying the deer on a truck tailgate works better, as the guts dont tend to all hang towards the ground like you showed

  • haven't seen a deer gutted like this since i was little. i think its a little excessive but each to there own i guess. good video by the way. brought back some memories from back in the day.

  • perfect videos thank you 5/5

  • i showed my mom a pic of this process and she threw up!!!

  • I find it's easier to do with the deer on the ground.

  • great video, now what?

  • I'll bet his little turkey in a turtle neck gobbles out a stiffy when he guts this deer. People and their fettishes!

  • oh come on!! not everything anyone does have to be sexual! you need to grow up my friend.

  • thanks for posting!

  • I'm hungry.

  • Awesome video I'm going to subscribe!!!!! I'm going to start deer hunting in 2010

  • did it smell bad?

  • @nuknog -.-...of course it smelled bad.....

  • bravo i feel very confident to field dress my first white tail. thank you very much wildernesseducation. awesome walkthough. now i wont make my mates fall over with the smell like they did me, puncturing the stomach and all, bahH! this is an excellent method!

  • best field dresing tutorial out there

  • nice to see you check for any signs of disease by looking at the lymph noids.

all in all a good vid

  • Why don't you just do all that in the woods right after you shot it? just take the out the stomach, puncture the diaphragm, empty the animal on blood and leave rest until you get home. But hey, im swedish =) it was very intresting though!!

  • i normaly do all this out in the field however it is very hard to video on your own with good enough light so that people can see what you are dong which is were some other field dressing videos have failed

  • First off, the best video on youtube for feild dressing that i could find. but my question is what about the urinary tract? it is connected to the digestive system (stomache etc) and i didn't see any "special" cut in the penis area. does it hust rip out when you pull?

  • Thier is no special cut that you need to make around penis. But always check your local best practice guidence. The bladder is a transusent pair shaped sack that is in the lower adomin is may or may not be full of urine. You can tie some string around it to seal it and prevent leakage then just pull it out with the rest of the guts. It is best to cheak to see what your local game laws/advice and best practice advise

  • Just a question, Im REALY new to this. now wouldnt it be easer to split open the chest befor pulling out the intestines and stomach? I just seems with the hart and lungs that it would almost fall out after the chest would be split. (this is a question and not a statement.) like i said im new to this. Thanks in advance for the info :)

  • Have you ever heard of the "Butt-Out Tool"? I know my way of field-dressing is really a lot more risky than yours because I could easily slice intestine a lot more easily. The Butt-Out tool eliminates the need to cut around and tease the anus out. You just push it in the anus, twist and pull up and it pulls out about 10 inces of anus/intestine. Tie off and then pull out while you're hanging it. It looks pretty cool. I think I'm going to buy one this year.

  • sounds realy cool. another thing that should be taken into acount is if you have to drag extract the animal to a truck or what ever you want to keep field dressing openings as small as possible to avoid contamination from the extraction. If you open the deer right up and cut the rib cage and pelvis thier is more risk of crap getting in. Just a thought.

I have never accidently cut the anus or intestin but for a beginner that tool sounds awesome i would like to see it in action.

  • do a search for "butt-out tool" on YouTube. There are some videos showing it in action. It's pretty slick. Much easier than cutting out the anus.

  • Great video. I personally accomplish this all on the ground before I move the deer from the place where it died but everyone has their own methods. You were the one that took the time to do such a great bang-up job with this subject. Good stuff.

  • i field dress were i shot the animal normaly however you need good light to make a good video which is why i brought the deer back and hung it up. But you should do this out in the field which is why it is called " field dressing". Thanks for the comment

  • I think we must have learned how to do this the same way! It is nice to know that I am not the only one who uses this style to field dress a deer. Very good video!

  • I look forward to all of your videos. They're all 5-stars in my book. I was wondering something though. I've never cut around the anus to pull it out and tie it off. I usually lay the deer on it's back on a piece of sloping ground with hit's butt-end facing the down-side of the slope. I just slice with a knife all the way down to the pelvic bone, cut through the pelvic bone, and just rip everything out from the throat all the way down. Everything seems to come out fine.

  • I field dress the deer the way my father and uncle taught me, We each have a way of doing something that differs from another persons way. Things like that make us individuals. I think that whatever the individual finds to be thier comfort zone is the route they should take.

  • Well done David, easy to follow and understand. This will be a big help to begginers out there wondering how to go about field dressing a deer.
