  • How would you recommend uploading video to youtube using this camera. As far as choosing a file format and frame rates?

  • @Ipad2Adventures it doesn't really matter what settings you use. Just remember to use the same resolution as original (720x480 ntsc or 720x576 pal), 29.97 fps on ntsc, 25 fps on pal. Maximum bitrate is 7000, I always used 6000 as far as I remember

  • THIS VIDEO LOOKS AMAZING, i have a question though, when i use my XL-1s it has a grain/mask like over it, it looks completely different than yours. am i recording or putting it on my comp. wrong?

  • I have a XL1 for sale if interested. Averagefilms@yahoo.com

  • im planning on getting this camera because i want to start filming asap hah im 15 thank you for posting this, you did a great job:)

  • XL1 was a great camera.

T2is suck as main cameras, they are best suited for specialized tasks like low light or shallow depth of field shots.

If you want a cheap all-purpose video camera check out the Panasonic TM900.

  • @Zecifer I have XL-1 and t2i now. They both are great cameras, the only thing that is bad about t2i is camera shake when filming without steady-cam stabilizer

  • @Brutalexecution I actually have a T2i too! lol. Except, I NEVER use the video option on it, just pictures

  • Were you using the lens that came stock with the camera or were you using an upgraded lens? Looks really good man, good work!

  • @tagndash01 i used stock lens

  • @Brutalexecution Cool man, thanks for the reply.

  • does it shoot in HD, if not whats the full resolution? 720x480?

  • @KyleMovieStudios no, there was no HD 10 years ago when this camera was manufactured. PAL models shoots in 720x576, NTSC - 720x480

  • @KyleMovieStudios oh! i thought it was made no more than 4-5 years ago :O

    thanks for the info :)

  • what is that song

    ?

  • Do you think this camera is top-quality for its price?

  • @GoffFilms its a great camera but a not as great for its price, it shoots in 720x480p with no hd, yet i recommend a canon 5d/550d/t1i etc. strongly rexcommend the canon t1i its on ebay for 500$

  • Wow, when you mentioned that t1i, I checked it out and it looks awesome. I am considering to buy it now

  • @Brutalexecution no prob, it sells for about 400$ on amazon and its super high HD quality :), btw im getting it 2, and im only 14 :)

  • @KyleMovieStudios cool, i also checked out t2i, I will buy that one from ebay, because people say that its video quality is better than t1i. EOS Rebel t2i can shoot 1080 HD video with native 24p frame rate what t1i cannot, but 720p resolution makes no big difference between both of them :) I think both models are great, but if I am planning to buy a new camera, better to buy best one I can afford, so it would still be good after 3-5 years :)

  • @Brutalexecution yeah the t2i (or as we call it 550D) is really good, it also has 18 Megapixels with the Full 1920x1080p HD resolution, good choice

  • the video out here seems to be HD, even i owe one of this camera n interested in makin music videos with it due to its clarity n softness could any one write how can i convert my normal 16:9 video into HD 1080 should i hv to buy lens for it or is there any program to convert it to HD??? m really interested to know the answer plz do reply my note...

  • how did you do the focus in focus out effect

  • @JohnsonRecords with camera lens. Just turn camera's manual focus option on

  • Is this camera still worth buying nowadays. If not can you recommend some other pro-grade cameras for the same price.

  • nice work. i have been shooting for 25 years both film (35) and video and this is really nice work.

  • Hi. Your videos are awesome. I'm working with my Canon XL1 in parties, and editing in my Imac with FCP HD express. Usually I finish projects in 100 minutes length with 20 to 25 GB each. Good to make clear that FCP Express HD, do not includes Compressor. The thing is : If someone knows the proper settings in XL1 and FCP EXPRESS Pro HD to export MiniDV tapes and burn it in IDVD or BLUE RAY with Crystal clear results (or look alike) in a 52 inch plasma HD 1080, I will be very happy to read it.

  • I'm still lovin my XL1 PAL first generation,

  • Great shoots !!!

  • In my town kids are selling there old XL's for around 650-850 in good to great condition. For me moving up from my sony 1000 to the Xl is a training for the higher up cams that are around 5000 today and will be more reasonably priced in a year

  • where are these places?

  • I WANT it-

  • how do you get the film lens effect?? i have a canon xl1s just wanted to know how, thanks....also can you help me at all with this...when i film weddings sometimes the focus goes in and out constantly, can you please help me if you can, thanks again.

  • well done..nice vid. may have convinced me to buy one. Though I really want a camera with XLR inputs.

  • i have a canon xl 2 but im not sure of the settings for the film look, other than the 24P..can anyone help?

  • im not even into camera but your camera work is beast.. the 0:27 - 0:44 = talent

  • hey where the shutter speed on that camera

  • Is there any point buying a XL1 nowadays or should i get something like a XL H1

  • @MartyHITD I think there is a lot of better cameras novadays for almost the same price

  • @Brutalexecution I bought a XL H1 today for 150 dollars lol, its pretty G BRO!

  • @gatler05 where the heck did you score something like that for so cheap?

  • @thecultguy Some guy in orange county california, hes crazy right! I gave away the camera though to a group of skaters (: I got myself a canon 7D

  • @gatler05 wow

let me know when you give away another one haha

and yeah, that Canon 7D man.. have fun with that one!

  • @thecultguy Haha fo sho man, if I ever come across another deal for something prosumer like that. Yeah its an amazing camera, I love it :).

  • @gatler05 Man, how'd you pull that off??

  • @ZelloBrosPro Sold it already, on craigslist man some dude was getting rid of it from his storage.

  • @Brutalexecution A lot better cameras nowadays than the xl1s, for almost the same price?

    have any suggestions?

  • @MartyHITD Haha, if you got that kinda cash to drop on a camcorder, by all means!

  • @MartyHITD

    7D or 5D :)

  • Very nice i like the focus stuff you did, im ordering one right now lol

  • how do ya get that film look

  • what were your main settings on that camera? I need to know because im doing a project & I have the same model. thanks

  • im gettin one for only £460 looks awsome, wasnt 28 days later filmed with this?

  • @Dinobot2468 Yes. 28 Days Later was filmed entirely on one of these. Great camera! I almost bought one, but instead went with a Sony PDX10. Wish I had gotten one of these.

  • @Cineman2011 awsome i just got one today, i loovee it :)

  • are these the cameras people use to make that "movie look?"

  • @ninmachine109 not just this camera, that "look" is achieved via several aspects during production and post production such as colour correction, lens, lighting etc

  • Great video.

  • Really nice test. Kind of fakes that 35mm DOF w/ racking the focus, it looks awesome.

  • @STRIKETOBURN1 You Can fake 35mm effect by zooming in and then focusing. It just takes more area space

  • Comment removed

  • what settings are you using in order to get that "film" look. Something about frames? thanks

  • what is ur name??? is that stupid enough for u

  • how do you get the videos uploaded onto a computer?

  • if it records in mini dv format, how to you get it onto a computer?

  • Great video. Just got a Canon XL1 and I used this video to help me make my mind up. I'm going to add something to my stock setup though, and just thought I would share it to help other XL1 users.

UV/Protector filter. It's a must. Not only will it protect your lens from damage, but also protects from UV rays which make outdoor photographs/film hazy and indistinct. I will be going for the Hoya HD range, as they are newer and have the edge on the older non-HD Hoya range.

  • looks awsome!

  • See the camera u r using, can u view the video, the way u have shot it in 1080p HD??

  • Forgive my ignorance, but I'm getting back into video after 20 years and my last professional camera use was three quarter inch! how does the quality of the XL1 stack up to the average theater screen? Also, what is the best Mini DV to use as a tape transfer deck to a PC?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Wow amazing

does this use fire wire and if so what kind

  • hay how did you get it to fit the screen so well, as in from edge to edge rather than it being small in the centre and having black all around the edges? is it an option on youtube? thank you

  • @tsts1234567890 its an anamorphic mask. It's an edit option in final cut and avid

  • i just bough these camera and i was wondering what the best mode/settings are to film on, any suggestions ?

  • that looks unbeleivable, I have this camera can you please send me your settings?

  • This is a pretty good cam for the price.Did you use any adapters or its stock?

  • everything is stock :)

  • Im thinking about buying one, whats the file type of the vids it records? mp4, wmv, etc??

  • it records in miniDV format

  • Nice work. I've got a Canon XL1 and I'm having real issues with the clarity of the image. It's coming out very blurry and I can't seem to get the manual focus right. I can sit and play with the focus for five minutes and not get a clear shot. Your focus shifts are so precise, how do you do it?!

  • You have to practice. And I also made every shot about 5-6 times, and took out the best one

  • @flibberdajibbet when you focus, zoom in completely, focus and then zoom completely out, if focusing on a person then zoom into their eye and focus until you see the glint in their eye then zoom out

  • how do u do this Film Look?

    Thanks

  • very nice!

I just shot a short doc 3 days ago with my xl1 check it out

  • Real good, I got me a secondhand canon Xl1 the other day.. was this shot using the Movie Frame mode?? What frame rate did you use when rendering?

  • it was shot using frame mode. I used 25p when rendered

  • does the canon xl-1 work with mac?

  • Comment removed

  • @StaatVastProducties yes, it works with mac and PC

  • yee bruh im using one on my macbook pro hella rad

  • Comment removed

  • Does the Xl1 use firewire? and does it work with windows 7?

  • it has fireware and it should work with windows 7

  • @Brutalexecution what does the fire wire cord for it look like. (please rely with picture or video)

  • there is only one type of fireware cord :)

  • espectacular man

  • hā, hā ! LV ! :D

  • Is This video made by xl1????

  • yes

  • ok! Thanks =)

  • One question. Is this the XL1's standard lens? I'm thinking of getting one and this is exactly the look I need for films...need to know what kind of lens I need if any.

  • For this video I used standart lens. Actually I don't know much about these things, but 35mm adapter gives you a real film look effect. Type in google. There are also many videos in YouTube how to build 35mm adapter by yourself

  • Comment removed

  • is it USB or what ???

  • i must say man, you did a great job, i just wish you could explain step by step how you did this( just the settings and how you rendered it out) lol i'm only 15 sorry for all the questions, nice job :)

  • Standart camera settings: DV PAL, 720x576, 25p. I shot the scenes with automatic white balance, and auto exposure, used manual focusing. Went home, imported everything into the Sony Vegas, did some color correction (contrast, brightness, levels, sharpen e.t.c.), then rendered it as MPEG2 video, 720x400, 25p, bit rate: 1500 or 2000 kbps. (I always use these settings before uploading my videos) Then I uploaded it in YouTube. The look doesn't depend on rendering settings, it depends on the camera

  • is your canon better than the hv30 ??? is the cinema look better ?

  • I think the HV 30 is a little bit better because of function to shoot in 24p mode. But the XL1's optics are better than hv30's.

  • so which has the better cinema look ? the one with the 24p or the one with the better optics ?

  • actually both. I suggest you tu buy HV30, and get 35mm adapter for better optics.

  • did you capture to adobe premiere or something?

bc i am about to get a canon xl1 and i was wondering what do i put the settings for capturing and what are some tips on capturing so i can edit it. :D nice video btw.

  • It does'nt matter with what do you cature with. Just capture it in standart DV PAL quality, that's it

  • is there a setting where i can make it shoot 1280 by 720?

  • No. Default resolution on XL-1 is 720x576

  • how could i get it to look like this? *i have after effects and premiere*

  • Think

  • hmmmm did you just put the premiere output settings to 1280 by 720 when you rendered it out? and i know you added the bars......or did you just stretch it out.....hmmm i'm thinking lol

  • Put the outpust settings to 1280 by 720 would be useless. It's 720x400 i guess. And I didn't added the bars, I just cropped the video.

  • NICE! This looks like HD Video! Did you edit this or is it straight from the camera?

  • I definetly does not look like an HD video. I did some color correction, that's it

  • Are ypu using a special lens for the camera or color correction at all? I would love to get this kind of feeling with an XL1 but I'm not sure of how to approach it.

  • just the color correction and default kit

  • I've never seen any 16:9 stretch out on the whole You Tube screen before, any tips on filling the entire viewing area here???

    Great Job BTW!

  • This isn't 16:9. Before the uploading just convert the video with correct settings and everything will work fine.

  • awesome job!

by the way what song is this?

  • ulver - for the love of the god

  • very nice. did you shoot in '16.9' mode? I've never used it due to the 25% loss in resolution but this looks good

  • I shot it in 4:3, then cropped it to 16:9 to make it look more like cinema. Cinema aspect ratio is 14:9

  • hw you go blur far away and bur close plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help me bro

  • Camera manual focus ;)

  • i can;t do it on a progrma

  • It can be only done by camera

  • was this done by magic bullet?

  • yes. I used up to 3 effects per scene. After applying Magic Bullet I did some contrast and saturation correction

  • so its on the camera i can't do it in sony vegas
