I'm really enjoying this. I've come from 20 years of astronomy and physics and I'm finding chemistry and biology fascinating. Especially the origins of life. Abiogenesis and Biopoesis are the most fascinating subjects I feel life can desire to learn. Like a child asking where babies come from, it's beautiful. We are the Universe asking itself how we got here. I'm very proud of scientists for not being afraid of the dark. The truth is so much more fascinating than past people imagined. Thank you.
Brilliant program - but cringingly, awful, over-pronounced, toffy accents from the 50s boffins, however that's just a minor objection to some great scientists. :-)
@36:33 Now that's old school moly-mods for ya! And more Rosalind Franklin FTW. If the Nobel is ever given posthumously, she needs to be the first recipient. The burn part was a little over the top though. I'd rather just break out a lancelet and demonstrate cell repair that way.
Actually I meant this as a joke - I am from Germany.
Jokes aside - I wish you were right, but since most Movies and Videogames are synchronized, the persentage of people fluently speaking english is a lot less than in countries, that just subtitle Movies. The Dutch for example or any of the scandinavian countries have a lot more people speaking english than we have.
@WarChicken78 Apologies, I assumed you were from the UK and most people here assume that, like us, other people don't speak "foreign". :-)
I have watched English films in Germany that are dubbed. Not only do dubbed films prevent people from learning other languages, but they also get in the way of the fil, in my opinion, as the voices seem detached from the action.
I was born in Germany, but was only there for a year or so. My German isn't very good otherwise I would have replied in German.
@St00sh13 FYI Your response would have taken 104 more characters in German.
The grammar is seriously flawed here, but don't worry - the sense comes through, and that's the important part. But yes - German generally needs more letters than english - I see that on a day to day basis, since I work in a localization department of a video game company.
@St00sh13 Never mind about your German skills. If I'd be british or american I'd rather learn Spanish or French, because those languagesare are more commonly spoken than German.

I wonder how long they had to search to find a butcher who's fluent in english in Germany...
WarChicken78 1 month ago
@WarChicken78 probably not long. Most Germans are fluent in English.
