I agree. Winnick's stuff is so much darker than this title thus far.
But at the same time, its still pretty fun. I'm interested to see it get a little darker and it probably will once we get to know the characters like Beast. Something's up with him.
Loved the issue too. I think the parental guidance is on the cover just because of the last page, when a certain someone is displayed on the front of a parade float.
If you go back and read it while keeping an eye on Blink you'll notice that she's in on something and is actually subtly guiding the team. I think the Panther is a great character too, love the whole Spiderman take they're doing on him.
While I did enjoy the first issue of Exiles here, I don't know what the tone of the book will be. It seems like it will be very light, but I could be wrong.
Some of the best Winick Exiles stuff, was them in just the worst alternate worlds which disturbed me. Like the one world Eastern America is conquered by Connor's Lizard People, or the one where Moses Magnum destroys Japan.
I say check out some of his early Exiles stuff and tell me what you think.

Despite any harsh feelings you have toward the guy's work, his Exiles stuff was great! It was his "Exiles" and Morrison's "New X-Men" that got me back into Marvel in '02.

Winnick is underrated. I loved his run on Green Arrow as well.
