  • What model of guitar is he using here? I want one so bad, but the only signature model of his I can find is that one that looks like the beginner Ibanez model.

  • Not so much a lesson as an advertisement.

  • @TonyMistry

Yes, but it is a good kind of advertisement. He's talking about Mesa Boogie because he likes their products and their people. I don't think he's pushing brand names just for the money.

  • @TonyMistry It's a lesson on tone and how to achieve it, don't be so quick to hate just because he isn't teaching you how to play.

  • He does have a great tone but he doesn't really know what he is talking about...like the difference in tone between these amps is because of the power amp tubes..it are completely different amps, not only the tubes but he keeps going on about the tubes.

    But what a tone!

  • 5:46 ...........I am literally drooling over that tone and riff!!! Wow!!!!

  • this is ''the best guitar sound possible'' , it cant get better

  • best tone ever !!!!!

  • he does what i think every guitarist does we cant explain tone with words so we have to play to show it.

  • i hope the desert island has power !

  • SRV!

  • i want a blues guitar! **

  • i want a blue guitar!

  • Mr. G.O.T (God of Tone)

  • There is soooo much everyone can learn from this guy - such a special talent.

  • what's the song at 4:31 ?

  • @Milos9191 I jst checked out that wicked game tune by chris isaak and I cant hear that exact riff. Very similar tho. Would luv to find out wot it is! Its a beautiful riff.

  • @Milos9191 the name of that song is "Andy Timmons - The Prayer / The Answer "

  • wow....fucking andy timmons....what the fuck man....tasteyest guitar player alive!!!!

  • yeah sure just give me that tone

  • Andy Timmons, King of Tone.

  • amazing.. anyone know what model that ibanez is?

  • @TheAlteredTuning

That's the guys signatur model only made in 2007, if I'm not wrong. He have the RG model and this SA model...

  • @TheAlteredTuning BTW the model is called ATB Signatur if I'm not wrong

  • 05:08 .....beast mode activated.....

  • Mesa Boogie is a great company. I have had great customer service from them.

  • excellent

  • i cant figure out why the hell he went back to his ex-girlfriend(AT2000CL)

  • whoa whats that at 4:30 to 4:55? Sounds real nice, is it from a song of his or did he just kinda mess around there?

  • Amazing tone .....

  • I saw him live and Andy is a fantastic human being and among the greats!

  • @paulpenelly u suck more cos ur too much of a douche to understand how great he is

  • @mymama12314

not worth getting wrapped around the axle about, mymamma12314.

if you haven't already, check him out on a tune called "Kumi Na Moja" by Simon Phillips.

  • This is an excellent reference video. Thanks for posting.

  • Does anyone know what Andy is playing at 4:33? I'm new to andy timmons

  • @bskkid4eva its the prayer the answer off the resolution cd

  • @bskkid4eva The Prayer / The Answer form Resolution

  • oh shit this clean sound kick ass :O

  • Whats the name of the song in the background towards the end of the video?

  • @slapbaZZ Beatiful, strange, from the That was then, this is now cd...

  • @kevin957 OH! lol. my mistake. The AT100CL is his newest (although crappiest looking to me) guitar with Ibanez, and they took the AT300 off the line. I thought you were talking about his new guitar, putting it in short, (AT1). my bad.

  • @kevin957 AT1????? the 100cl is out now

  • Timmons got the best tone ever !!

  • andy timmons' sloppyness > my best playing

  • @kevin957 don't forget about his pickups and his mahogany body.

  • This guy's guitar comes to him at night in his dreams to nurture within him the secrets of awesometastic tone

  • the octavia is so joe satriani sounding

  • someone explain those really small cabs the heads are sittin on? whats the point of them?

  • @robotfamilygchicken whats the point of cabs? or whats the point of 2 x12 vs 4 x 12's? he probably likes the sound of of the 2 x 12 cabs better then 4 x 12s, they sound very different.

  • amazing tone

  • i would check them out if they werent so expensive

  • wow... truly a master at work. he dosnt play the guitar, he makes sweet sticky love to it!

  • It's a Ibanez AT-300 - the guitar isn't build anymore and can only be found second hand. Currently, only the AT-100 is available through Ibanez dealers.

  • The AT-100 is garbarge as far as appearance is concernced, in that regard, I believe ther AT-300 rapes it.

  • What Ibanez guitar is he playing? I can't find it on Ibanezs site.

  • His signature model, lol

  • tasteful guitar...

  • He has some awesome tones! So underrated...

  • yah man hes right there with satch amd vai in his own style .... such a beautiful player

  • Does anyone know what pickups his signature guitar has? Because I've never heard an Ibanez sound so soulful.

  • @TheDancingSaxophone

He's got a Dimarzio AT-1 in the bridge and 2 Dimarzio Cruisers for the middle and neck

  • Comment removed

  • I could not stand his 80s band.... but I had read articles how diverse he was as a guitarist. Over the last year I have "discovered" Andy Timmons. What a great feel, tone and style he has. I guess it has been my loss in the past. Thanks to YouTube I have been introduced to this guy.

  • amazing player n tone!!!pretty groovy

  • i absolutely love how unpredictably good his runs are. His compositions are one of a kind.

  • whats he playing from 4:31 - 4:55??

    amazing clean tone.

  • the prayer / the answer by resolution CD

  • i am currently buying every possible piece of equipment to get close to this tone. Too bad I can't afford a stiletto and a lonestar, just a lonestar.

  • Atleast you can afford a Lonestar. Whenever he needs to cut down on size he just uses a Lonestar head with a 2x12 cab. And this video is out of date in comparison to his current rig.

  • This man just ooooooozes tone.

  • Un auténtico freak del sonido ...

    Me encanta :P

  • 3:17 For the freestompboxes guy who doesn't like the OCTAVIA

  • I appreciate your setup, I have the ability to duplicate it , it seems I'm kepler and you're king medatron.

  • how's the song starting on 4:30 called? pls respond

  • It's the " The Prayer/The Answer " from his last album

    " Resolution " (2006). Great Song

  • thx ;)

  • The answer is "The Answer" xD That's the name of the song ^^

  • haha ok thx xD but I already learned the song by ear it's not that hard^^ but thanks

  • Andy has had 3 different signature guitar models:

    AT100

    AT200

    AT300

None of these guitars are produced anymore.

  • The AT100 is being re-released.

  • yea i just thought that this guitar would have been the signature-one..

  • is there any place to get those guitars. I tried to google the signature model but only found a strato.. some at-300

  • google Ibanez AT100CL, that's his signature model.

  • The AT100 is his old one. This model is the AT300

  • you don't know much about guitar do you?

  • 1: Andy Timmons playing exactly what you would expect? *giggle* Sure...

2: I don't think he's aiming to impress or surprise you, especially not in an amp rig demo video.

3: Let's see you baffle us.

4: Let's see any other guitarist with Andy's feel and tone - play totally unexpected stuff, constantly.

    5: Yes, I'm grumpy.

6: Why did you bother writing that comment?

  • God, it's not like i said he was bad at guitar or anything. He just didn't really play anything that was unexpected.

It's not like i said "I am much better than andy timmons and he doesn't surprise me." Jesus, chill the fuck out.

All i'm saying is that in this particular video he doesn't play anything all that original.

Also David Gilmour impresses me every time.

  • Hehe :-)

I get that, I was just grumpy ;p But still... This is just a video of him showing his rig, and playing some licks and riffs.

  • whats the song at 4:30??

  • The Prayer / The Answer

  • what is the title of the background song starting at 6:51? sounds like a little of racer x.

  • Beautiful, Strange.

  • What a gear!!

  • he is a great guitar player!! her music is amazing!!!!

  • um, you got your genders mixed up there

  • amazinggggggggggggggggg

  • Funny how everything is all about $. He'd never film this on his own to show people the rig. Mesa paid him to do it. Sad.

  • you'd do it for money.

  • You don't know that! Sometimes people turn down things because they don't believe in it. Some do it in spite of believing against it. No biggie here. He's just playing guitar. I'm becoming an anti-big-business person. Long live the individual!

  • my bad. i should have said most people would do it.

  • do you think he has free time to show you his rig for fun?

im pretty sure that his a busy man that got better thing to do then show you his rig.

and theres nothing sad about being paid to show your rig.

you know people need to make a living.

  • "you know people need to make a living. "

Prob is, people don't try to make a living. They try to make a killing.

  • true that man

  • well, he does get all his stuff for free, and he does endorse mesa so its expected of him.

and besides, its andy timmons, he's the nicest guy ever, and HE'S SHOWING US HIS TONE! so dont complain. he could've demo'd the amp and not shown his tone.

  • I don't know a lot about him but he seems like a very nice guy. Good player too. I saw a vid with him and Satriani and he almost stole the show from him!

  • ya totally

  • Awesome!!! :)

  • arnold schwarzenneger playing guitar..lol

  • sounds so smooth, i like it

  • I have a feeling that no matter if I played through the same guitar and same gear he's using, I'd still sound just like me. Great gear is no substitute for talent and Andy Timmons is just a fantastic guitarist. I'm sure he'd still sound like himself if he played through my rig, which would cause me to imitate Jimi Hendrix and smash it lol

  • He sure loves that BB :P But who wouldn't? It's basically the most badass distortion pedal to ever exist.

  • Dude is amazing and could make a toilet lid sound great! His instrument sound great but the magic is in his fingers.

  • Has anyone heard the saying..."It's the singer, NOT the song?" Well here it's definitely the player, NOT the equipment. Andy is an amazingly gifted player and could wow a crowd with a 40 year old acoustic Fender bought at a pawn shop. Show my man some respect.

  • i agree, but the quality of your gear does affect your sound aswell to a degree

  • The guitar sound's amazing, beautifull melodies and of course is andy timmons one of my favourites guitar player's, so much talent!

  • OMG what a dream MESA rig! Andy is insane as well, of course!

  • I don't care what you all think. I am the noobish one here.

  • this video is sick!!!!! my guitar teacher writes andy timmons tabs for him!!! his names clint franzen you can even go ask andy for yourself!!! i dont care if yall believe me or not!!!

  • ...you're dumb

  • Ahh...tabs suck!

All great players play completely by ear.

  • thats a nobbish thing to say.. most great musicians can play by sight as well.

  • RJT123: yes there are a lot of musicians who can play well by sight. But, if they can't also play by ear, should they be considered great?

I'd say no. Music is about listening.

  • well actually atrickpay11 alot of playing by ear can come naturally to alot of players..

but to say that ALL GREAT players play COMPLETELY by ear was still noobish.. lol

alot of great players also are great because they can READ as well. did you know andy timmons has a masters in both jazz and classical, meaning he can read like a beast.

so yea..the whole comment saying that all players are playing completely by ear is just retarded...theory and reading has aLOT to do with it.

  • laughter360: I recognize that there exist great players that can also play by sight.

However, the point I am getting is that a player MUST be able to play by ear to be great.

If they can just read for example, they won't be able to compose or improvise. And if they can't do that, how can they be considered great?

  • right, you make a valid point.

    good job lol.

    what mine was.

to say that "ALL GREAT players play COMPLETELY by ear"

    is a little retarded.

and when i say retarded i mean kinda autistic.

all guitarists start in a garage...shredding, tearin it up on smoke on the water lol

but what makes them great is taking that dedication to start reading and studying theory and watching others play and copying them (a reference to what rj said about playing by sight.) everyone has a good point. : ]

  • I see your point, music is about listening.. but what if there was a musician who was FANTASTIC to listen to them play pieces, you would call them great. How do you know they are not deaf! You don't, because it is the listeners job to do the listening. The player plays it... it doesn't matter how they play it.

  • Actually Shea is right. I go to his same teacher and he just finished transcribing everything on the Resolution album note-for-note. And tabs do not suck. I personally do not use them but people who can't use their ear can learn to play Andy's songs using them. And it was obviously hell for Clint to transcribe everything because come on man... it's freakin Timmons!

  • realguitarist07: I should clarify...tabs suck are a crutch if one aspires to become a good musician.

However, if one just wants to be able to play a few songs on their guitar, then they are fine.

  • are you high?

  • No. I'm not serious...Sometimes, when I'm bored at work, I type stupid shit on youtube to see what type or responses I get... It's pretty lame and immature, but it makes for a good laugh super late at night.

  • hahah ok, fair enough i know what that can be like

  • i agree to a degree, TAB is a good beggining to charts

  • asu mare pero q tal set up, delicioso :D, andy timmons un gran genio ;)

  • i cant believe how good hows amp tone is

  • just a fucking feeling and tone. Him and petrucci show us how a mesa boogie amp can tone

  • what are those scales!!! DAMN!!!

  • Mostly natural minor, it's just his phrasing and passing tones (aswell as a great sense of melody and creativity) that makes it sound special.

  • All the shredders should way this guy and pick up some tips. Sweep picking is not required for every single note.

  • wuzzat guitar?!

  • I think that's an Ibanez AT300AV. It's Andy's signature model.

  • wow i'm in love with his tone..i thought Petrucci had the best tone, not anymore though.

  • haha, i had the very same thought!

  • I've never seen him make a mistake while playing, probably he was born with a guitar in his hands..amazing..

  • actually he makes... )))) not a tonal mistakes... but not all the notes are clearly plays... it's nothing special, he's not a robot anyway;)

  • ...nothing special about the mistakes, or about his playing? hope ypu're not the kind of guy that thinks micheal angelo batio is the best player on earth...

  • sure I'm about the mistakes. I'm a big fan of him! His playing and the Mesa Boogie gear (own a head). ;))))

But everyone makes mistakes, there are no gods among us. His mistakes just not even noticeable to many players. I listen to him a lot, so I know how every note in his songs is played. But he's really amazing on the stage! He always improvise in many places of his songs, and like always that sounds amazing. :))))

  • this dude has become one of my favorite guitarists of all times. sound-wise and feel-wise!

  • GOD BLESS Mr.Andy Timmons !!! =)

  • Thank God for Andy!

  • Thank God there are the subtitles! Wouldn't have understood the english instead, would've been to easy :P

  • The song he played at 4:30 is The Prayer/The Answer, from Resolution

  • yeah, right. you play sloppy...

i wish i could get to 1/10^6 sloppy as you are...

  • Agreed. I want to play as sloppy as that.

  • me got same guitar, really lovely

  • Texas loves ya Andy!

  • Andy rocks. and mesa boogie to.what great amps!

  • i would give may left leg for this!

  • what song is he plating at 4:31?

  • i wish i knew too

  • It's the intro from "The Prayer / The Answer" from his "Resolution" album.

  • He is sooooo good

One of my favourite musicians at the moment!!

  • I've been educated.

  • he would have so much fun
