survivor man is more practical than man vs wild. For tv and entertaiment, man vs wild may be better becuz bear purposely does all those jumping heart pumping actions, but its actually impractical to do so in a actual survival situation. Survivorman is much more practical for real survival situations.
BG he does some cool stuff (flying over everest on a paraglider) but in terms of surviving his show is pretty weak. I've seen a episode where he barrels through a rainforest then spends an afternoon building a bamboo bridge to cross a river. Rarely is he shown looking for food, other then in situations when he'll eat something long dead, drink his own piss or squeeze elephant shit into his mouth for shock value. Les' show may be less entertaining but he doesn't take unneccessary risks
Seriously guys, saying this guy is better than BG won't make you any better. BG can probably outlast any of you and me. But he has the guts and skills to do all the risky desperate stuff a person on a life-death situation will do. He can't be doing it all as often as he does without taking a toll on him. So therefor he will get help along the way.

@vada06 No kidding. Really, the arguing about these shows is ridiculous. I enjoy MvW more than Survivorman, both do different things. "markersb" admits that "Les' show may be less entertaining". Props to Les for what he does, but bad form to publicly have a go at Bear by name. Just 1 more thing he does that Bear doesn't. :)

It was taking a toll on his body. He wasn't just out there living in the wilderness... he was doing it completely alone and also filming a show at the same time. It had to be very taxing on his body. It's probably hard enough just surviving, but then trying to document what you're doing makes it even harder. Hopefully he feels compelled to do at least a few more shows before all is said and done, I've watched the ones he's already done to death.

@RhythmBluesSoul1 big difference between white people and us blacks, native americans e.t.c we can surivive and have whearas white die off and look to others culutres and races for help then become racist towards the same people that helped them
what? since when did color have anything to do with a persons ability to survive? and why the hell are you blaming an entire fucking race for something their ancestors did? morons like you are the only reason i support abortion.
I like Les because he seems very humble. He loves nature, although it can be an abusive relationship. He didn't want to mention Bear, because I think he didn't want it to be a competition. Good man, big props.
And Again to quelch this gay comment for this psuedo survivalist Les....Ray Mears is superior at Buchcraft - just check it out (others, not Fagmeister).
Who the hell are you talking about? Les has movies, albums, shows and skills. "Ray Ray" sounds like either A) Another underground prick, or B) You or a cousin that you're trying to plug.
This guy is for real, anyone who says otherwise is obviously not really educated about what he does. He goes out into the wilderness with only basic lines of communication that he is required to use by law and so that in an emergency, he can be found. And even that sometimes fails him, such as when he survived on an inflatable raft.
He films his shows himself... everytime you see him a quarter-mile from the camera during a hike, he has to turn around OFF CAMERA and go back to fetch the camera.
hey genius...read the conversation..it was about Bear, the host of Man vs. Wild, not Les. Maybe you should have actually read what was going on before running your mouth.
I find bear is fun to watch but hes well trained and all the things he does is impractical for most fit guys let alone fat useless people with nothing better to do than argue on youtube
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
dude Les is cool and what not but Bear is better and just FYI he ain't fake if you listen to what Bear says he says in some episodes that he does not stay the night. Anyway if Bear didn't know what he was doing, he would have never climbed Mount Everest.
you want to bet, i have a firend that went up Everest not even to the top and they were 20 going up and 11 coming down so don't say it is easy and his tips work i have tried them.
alright then smartass id fucking like to see you climb mount everest. do you know how many people have died trying and how many never made it to the summit like Bear? - ALOT
Bear himself isn't fake, and ya, he's knows his stuff. But his show is fake. Most of the show is just to satisfy his tv audience, the things he does are totally impractical, and are usually things you would never do in a real survival situation. That's the difference.
i add-met that some things he does are not possible for people like you and me to do but the information that you get copying his movements for things that you can do is knowledge that you can use. that don't make him a fake. most thing he does are not improbable.
People love to jump on a bandwagon of sensationalism, in this case bashing MvW on every related youtube video.
Some of it is staged and yes it's easier to have a crew with you, not to mention stay and eat with them when not filming. That's all obvious and the show creators have admitted to it.
However to say the show is simply fake implies that the entire show is staged. Besides that generalized accusation being false, they never claimed all of it was real.
Les is the real thing. Bear, starting with his name is a fake. Next time you watch "Man vs WIld" and Bear is shown going down a crevasse and the camera angle is from the bottom of the crevasse, it means someone else went before him with a 20lbs camera on his shoulder. Therefore Bear is a fake
mmm... I wouldn't use that as my argument to whether or not bear was a fake. Even les puts cameras places for us, then walks someplace across a river, and comes back for it and stuff.
anyways, Bear isn't a "fake" anymore, because he had to change the whole premise of the show due to his fraud. but yeah bear totally isn't about survival anymore.
Listen man. I bash it for a good reason. Even after they changed their intro to include how its not realistic, they still lied about tons of stuff. Catch "wild" horses which were borrowed. Leaping "lava" which was actually set up with hot coals and smoke machines.
An episode said to be on a small island in the south pacific. It was Hawaii.
What the F do I think its about? I think its about a guy who does crazy things which would actually get people killed for the ratings.
It is disappointing that they had to stage those examples, anyone would prefer to see the real thing. But considering how much they actually do and the fact it's a TV show, It's very understandable.
Bear certainly does some gut-wrenching and crazy things, but it hasn't killed him and he doesn't pretend that everyone is as fit and trained as he is.
I won't change your mind because you really think you've been mislead. But you might be expecting too much from TV (which is mostly crap anyway).
Yeah It's really that simple, I was just 'having a rant' unlike RogueChinchilla's perfectly framed argument.
I don't disagree that he is completely fake, nor is it just daft expectations from a TV show that results in feeling betrayed. I'm actually subliminally expressing how much I love Bear.
I can't possibly watch two survival shows at once I'm far too open minded to appreciate what's informative or entertaining without crying FAKE like those bandwagon following youtube trolls.
And enough with the whole they didn't claim it was unstaged. Just watch the first seasons, where he says explicitly, I'm going in alone with only the clothes on my back.
No wonder they had to change their intros. Now do you see how we can call the show a fraud?
Sure now that they've changed the premise it isn't. I've never denied that. But YOU have to admit that they have intentionally tried misleading viewers.
When I frame the argument like that there's no way you can win.
'Going in alone' means that he's the only one in front of the camera, if you think that's betraying then it's your fault for being daft enough to not realize he has a crew.
They changed their intros to make it clear that it was *shock* a TV show with a crew and somewhat staged. Like virtually every other 'reality show'.
It's like putting 'caution hot' on a cup of coffee, just because it's not there sometimes doesn't mean you're being intentionally misled.
Furthermore you keep saying stuff was undenied by the creators, like that makes it all better.
I never said they denied it. But the fact they didn't tell us in the first place, leading us to believe he's spending full weeks in the hostile environments is quite fraudulent.
But yeah he isn't an "impostor" anymore because we've all caught on to the reality of the show. anyways, you go sit and ponder that. I'm not going to waste time on another youtube argument because you won't change my mind.
Names have nothing to do with the show's realism and cameras can be positioned without being constantly carried.
Some staged demonstrations and motel visits (undenied by the creators) don't make Bear or MvW simply fake, that's a ridiculously narrow minded argument.
There's no point in making silly rivalry between the two shows anyway, they're both interesting and entertaining in their own styles.
Hey defectivehumanbeing why don't you move out of the YMCA, get a horse and live in the mountains someplace and don't bother anybody. You've got a personality like a dead moth.
Liberatedhumanbeing, I read your comments, and watched some of your videos, and being as I am taking Psychology, I think you may be either clinically insane, or mentally retarded, please seek help, don't hurt yourself, and when I saw you put on your deer disguise rug, I nearly died laughing.
Go spam one of your own enthralling videos! The only reason you're on here is because no one takes you seriously, or watches your vids. This clip has nothing to do with your hobo lifestyle, and stop replying to me, I don't like your horseshit comments cluttering up my inbox.
Bear's show, on the other hand, is different. He puts himself in these situations to show you how to get out of it....it's not to show that he can survive X number of days or whatever. For example, if someone was to teach another person how to climb, they would show you a bunch of scenarios and skills but wouldn't have to actually climb the whole mountain to do so. You know that they could, but showing the entire climb isn't the purpose of the show. A show like survivorman would show it.
you're missing the point. True, Les has some training and does teach some things. He also does things that people shouldn't do (like when he got lost with his friend in Ontario, eating snow, not build fires or shelters). He also often goes days without food. Les is a guy who improvises with what he has, like anyone would try to do in a similar situation. His show, while teaching you somethings, isn't an instructional show, but more of a Survivor show than Survivor.
I think that the comments made towards Man vs Wild are unfair. For one thing, the shows are completely different. Les is alone and tries to survive based on what he's given, using his wits and inginuity. Bear is a trained guy who purposely gets himself stuck in situations and teaches you how to get out of them (like when he purposely jumped into quick sand). They both have pros and cons, but it's like judging apples to oranges.
The one thing this guy has going for him is he admits he is not skilled in survival skills. Pity because he would eat better & be in better shape if he did learn them. But what help is he giving to those that may need those skills someday? They wont have a GPS tracker on them so their team can come rescue them before they are dead. Spend the day camping at the water hole & build a bow & arrow & next wild sheep he sees he can eat if he learns proper ways to approach it. Might have eaten emu too.
Anyone else suspect the Man vs. Wild guy must have some kind of urine fetish going on? He doesn't distill it like Les and just drinks it straight. Kinda creepy if ya ask me.
Not to mention he would rather drink piss then water that he walks past the sources for. Like the show in the Moab desert in Utah. I know that desert having lived in it for almost a year. Never needed to drink my piss, though I did have to rely on digging & a version of a solar still set out during the day to help draw out water that was just soaking the soil to fill my canteen. I would get upwards to a 1/2 gallon in around from sunup to sunset. Sometimes I didn't need the still as I hit a well.
same technique. You see, 99.9% of any skill you learn from a survival course ANYWHERE is universal. How to hunt, fish, locate water, build tools from stone or wood or bone, etc. The how to is the same no matter where you are. Only the climate techniques are prone to change them any due to weather conditions. I found water the same in the Australian desert the same way I did here in the Desert of the southwest U.S. Actually it was a lot of the same plants that told me where to look.
I have really enjoyed this show for some time now, and am glad to see new episodes. I have personally done survival camping, and it is ridiculously hard to find food, even where I was in the central US. Day two, my horse starting getting nervous, wondering why I was looking at him like that, the headaches set it, it was not cool. What this guy does is tough, and I have a lot of respect for it!
People watching this should REALLY read and watch the "Naked Into The Wilderness - Primitive Wilderness Living and Survival Skills" Series: Books and Videos by John and Geri McPherson. You will see it is easier then any 'Bear Grylls' or 'Les Stroud' pretend it is to survive. 98% of what they teach is applicable anywhere in the world. The 2% left is forested / meadowland specific.
0 days. Though I may enter the bush without, my first task is to create. In an hour or so I will have a bow & arrow, a spear, some rope, water container, and knife that I made. What happened to theirs?
If you claim to be teaching a skill then do so. Don't go halfassed about it & hope you can do it. I give Stroud kudos on one thing. I have heard him say he is not a survivalist but has some basic knowledge of a few skills, whereas Bear claims to be an expert.
You're delusional. 0 days is right, it shows. Your number one priority as soon as you realize you are lost in the bush is to create shelter for yourself like Les teaches, a human being can survive for days without food or water. These aren't "Mad Trapper" senarios here, they're a matter of lasting long enough to be rescued.
who said I seek rescue? you delude yourself if you think I need someone to help me out of the bush. That is an element I grew up in and lived off of for 20 years. Most (I'd have prefered all) of the time no closer to civilization or my nearest neighbor was a 2 - 3 day hike. You want shelter? Whipped up is 20 minutes if even that long. Longer if I have to build against cold weather, but wet weather is no problem with it. MY #1 priorities is protection from predictors.
Second Priority is ability to procure food & water & sometimes the predator becomes the prey.
shelter is very low on my list except for bad weather, I worry about it as needed. Used to make a new one every night since I am always on the move from place to place. You wait to be rescued & starve, I will hide from the rescuer & eat good.
RESCUED BAHHH! Learn some skills & RESCUE YOURSELF from the bush. Maybe you should change your name to Sheep as you seem to think like one. BAAAAAAAAAH!
Your awfully sure of yourself for someone who has never been in these situations before. I think your full of shit. Survivorman is not a show catered to survivalists anyways so I have no clue what your fucking point is. Here's a screen name for you: 10lbsofshitina5lbbag@selfrighteousprick.c0m
yeah no kidding, I smell poopoo. This guy expect everyone to instantly accept the bullshit he is peddling , while insulting what Stroud has accomplished. He doesn't realise that he is on the internet and has ZERO credibility. Not to mention he talks like a friggin self-important yuppie. 4 years in the bush my ass.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Maybe you should look up peoples profiles before you judge and see what a moron your sounding like. I have 20 years living primitive and been teaching the life & skills for the past 10. Stroud has done what in this field??? I a one week course of OUT IN BUSH TRAINING, he does what? Fools morons like you with a few simple tricks into thinking you know how to live in the bush. How many times did he need rescued himself? Me? Ok once I got stuck in a flooded area & had help. Sheeze , morons all over
LMAO What have you done except lurking on Les's videos on youtube. Jealousy is a stinky cologne my friend, and you reek of it. Your profile? Doesn't mean shit, and like mrhot said you have no credibility whatsoever. Piss off.
uhh jealous is not an option when you are talking possible wasted loss of life. And MY credibility has really nothing to do with my original post other then that I find John & Geri are TRUE SURVIVAL teachers, not ratings dweebs to keep morons like you from learning what could save your life if stuck in the bush AND NO ONE COMES TO RESCUE YOU. Seems you maybe you DID google it & got jealous because I found it was easier then the TV said to care for myself without mommy to make it alright.
LOL are you in the bush right now you mangy old fuck? What is your wooden laptop plugged into... a tree? Or are you using the magical wood spirits to post incoherent ramblings for this video? From your video it looks like you're either squatting at the local YMCA or confined to a mental institution. I hope its the later and you're getting the help you need instead of firing bow and arrows at rats under railway bridges looking to fill your hobo bindle. May the wood spirits be with you.
lmao.....That's one of the funniest comments I've read on YouTube, especially in the light of 'liberatedhumanbeing's' highly disturbing videos. I'm sorry, 'liberated' but if I found myself in a survival situation, you're the last person I'd want to run into. I'm quite sure I would end up being barbequed on a spit on suspicion of being part of the secret Illuminati, out to destroy your way of life.
you wouldn't have to worry. I would let you starve. If you can not do for yourself & not handicapped it is due to being a moron. And like all in nature the stupid die first. My videos? Oh like where I show how simple it is to make a hunting bow in under 20 minutes? Did you also goto the website & read the how to as well? It should make even more sense to you as it has pictures. Try doing like your name says & evolve. Like maybe a brain?

Well really how many locations left are there. He can only show us. I am a huge fan. How to make a fire. Or how to make a shelter. Hunt for food.
What Les has taught me about surviving. Is about not to panic us the brains that we have. I mean mankind did before and could still do it.
Les is a perfect example of that.

why did he have to quit the show?
thcinmybody 2 years ago
It was taking a toll on his body. He wasn't just out there living in the wilderness... he was doing it completely alone and also filming a show at the same time. It had to be very taxing on his body. It's probably hard enough just surviving, but then trying to document what you're doing makes it even harder. Hopefully he feels compelled to do at least a few more shows before all is said and done, I've watched the ones he's already done to death.

Alright, didn't say it was easy, I said "it doesn't take a GENIUS to FOLLOW a guide". No survival training required in other words.
Bear is in it for the shock value, not the actual survival.

RobinHood3000 2 years ago
Bear himself isn't fake, and ya, he's knows his stuff. But his show is fake. Most of the show is just to satisfy his tv audience, the things he does are totally impractical, and are usually things you would never do in a real survival situation. That's the difference.
cffe27 2 years ago 2
i add-met that some things he does are not possible for people like you and me to do but the information that you get copying his movements for things that you can do is knowledge that you can use. that don't make him a fake. most thing he does are not improbable.

Raider8784 2 years ago 5
yes bear has a camera crew with him.
mysticalmandy 2 years ago 3
Les is the real thing. Bear, starting with his name is a fake. Next time you watch "Man vs WIld" and Bear is shown going down a crevasse and the camera angle is from the bottom of the crevasse, it means someone else went before him with a 20lbs camera on his shoulder. Therefore Bear is a fake
francbiss 2 years ago 2
RogueChinchilla 2 years ago
I don't see how you can call it fraud, they didn't claim it was all unstaged. Nor did they deny the truth when people learned more about the show.
As for not being about survival anymore, WTF do you think it's about?
Damecos 2 years ago
RogueChinchilla 2 years ago 3
It is disappointing that they had to stage those examples, anyone would prefer to see the real thing. But considering how much they actually do and the fact it's a TV show, It's very understandable.
Bear certainly does some gut-wrenching and crazy things, but it hasn't killed him and he doesn't pretend that everyone is as fit and trained as he is.
I won't change your mind because you really think you've been mislead. But you might be expecting too much from TV (which is mostly crap anyway).
Damecos 2 years ago
i think your talking about Bear Grylls. Les just gives you survival tips he never does 'crazy things'
rumblinjungl 2 years ago
Yeah I was talking about bear. Thats why this other dude went off on a whole "i love bear" rant. So you couldn't see my original post. =P
RogueChinchilla 2 years ago
Yeah It's really that simple, I was just 'having a rant' unlike RogueChinchilla's perfectly framed argument.
I don't disagree that he is completely fake, nor is it just daft expectations from a TV show that results in feeling betrayed. I'm actually subliminally expressing how much I love Bear.
I can't possibly watch two survival shows at once I'm far too open minded to appreciate what's informative or entertaining without crying FAKE like those bandwagon following youtube trolls.
Damecos 2 years ago
And enough with the whole they didn't claim it was unstaged. Just watch the first seasons, where he says explicitly, I'm going in alone with only the clothes on my back.
No wonder they had to change their intros. Now do you see how we can call the show a fraud?
Sure now that they've changed the premise it isn't. I've never denied that. But YOU have to admit that they have intentionally tried misleading viewers.
When I frame the argument like that there's no way you can win.
RogueChinchilla 2 years ago 3
'Going in alone' means that he's the only one in front of the camera, if you think that's betraying then it's your fault for being daft enough to not realize he has a crew.
They changed their intros to make it clear that it was *shock* a TV show with a crew and somewhat staged. Like virtually every other 'reality show'.
It's like putting 'caution hot' on a cup of coffee, just because it's not there sometimes doesn't mean you're being intentionally misled.
BTW, this is not about 'winning'.
Damecos 2 years ago
Furthermore you keep saying stuff was undenied by the creators, like that makes it all better.
I never said they denied it. But the fact they didn't tell us in the first place, leading us to believe he's spending full weeks in the hostile environments is quite fraudulent.
But yeah he isn't an "impostor" anymore because we've all caught on to the reality of the show. anyways, you go sit and ponder that. I'm not going to waste time on another youtube argument because you won't change my mind.
RogueChinchilla 2 years ago 3

Names have nothing to do with the show's realism and cameras can be positioned without being constantly carried.
Some staged demonstrations and motel visits (undenied by the creators) don't make Bear or MvW simply fake, that's a ridiculously narrow minded argument.
There's no point in making silly rivalry between the two shows anyway, they're both interesting and entertaining in their own styles.

smalldongman 2 years ago
Bear's show, on the other hand, is different. He puts himself in these situations to show you how to get out of it....it's not to show that he can survive X number of days or whatever. For example, if someone was to teach another person how to climb, they would show you a bunch of scenarios and skills but wouldn't have to actually climb the whole mountain to do so. You know that they could, but showing the entire climb isn't the purpose of the show. A show like survivorman would show it.
obscureashell 2 years ago
you're missing the point. True, Les has some training and does teach some things. He also does things that people shouldn't do (like when he got lost with his friend in Ontario, eating snow, not build fires or shelters). He also often goes days without food. Les is a guy who improvises with what he has, like anyone would try to do in a similar situation. His show, while teaching you somethings, isn't an instructional show, but more of a Survivor show than Survivor.
obscureashell 2 years ago
I think that the comments made towards Man vs Wild are unfair. For one thing, the shows are completely different. Les is alone and tries to survive based on what he's given, using his wits and inginuity. Bear is a trained guy who purposely gets himself stuck in situations and teaches you how to get out of them (like when he purposely jumped into quick sand). They both have pros and cons, but it's like judging apples to oranges.
obscureashell 2 years ago 3
"Bear is a trained guy who purposely gets himself stuck in situations and teaches you how to get out of them"
.....les does the exact same thing. ma vs wild was proven to be BS though- his crew was with him, it was all a farce
kiratisdale 2 years ago
The one thing this guy has going for him is he admits he is not skilled in survival skills. Pity because he would eat better & be in better shape if he did learn them. But what help is he giving to those that may need those skills someday? They wont have a GPS tracker on them so their team can come rescue them before they are dead. Spend the day camping at the water hole & build a bow & arrow & next wild sheep he sees he can eat if he learns proper ways to approach it. Might have eaten emu too.
liberatedhumanbeing 2 years ago
Anyone else suspect the Man vs. Wild guy must have some kind of urine fetish going on? He doesn't distill it like Les and just drinks it straight. Kinda creepy if ya ask me.
HelplessVictim 2 years ago
Not to mention he would rather drink piss then water that he walks past the sources for. Like the show in the Moab desert in Utah. I know that desert having lived in it for almost a year. Never needed to drink my piss, though I did have to rely on digging & a version of a solar still set out during the day to help draw out water that was just soaking the soil to fill my canteen. I would get upwards to a 1/2 gallon in around from sunup to sunset. Sometimes I didn't need the still as I hit a well.
liberatedhumanbeing 2 years ago
well maybe unlike you he hasn't lived in that specific desert for a year and wouldn't know the terrain like you do.
impressive that you know how to gather water where you live.
but not shameful that someone else who isn't native to the area wouldn't know.
privatevilla 2 years ago
same technique.

GOOGLE IT!
liberatedhumanbeing 2 years ago
how many days straight have you been out in the bush with no equipment?
blake983 2 years ago
I have heard him say he is not a survivalist but has some basic knowledge of a few skills, whereas Bear claims to be an expert.
liberatedhumanbeing 2 years ago
bow? spear? water container? yada yada yada
You're delusional. 0 days is right, it shows. Your number one priority as soon as you realize you are lost in the bush is to create shelter for yourself like Les teaches, a human being can survive for days without food or water. These aren't "Mad Trapper" senarios here, they're a matter of lasting long enough to be rescued.
blake983 2 years ago
who said I seek rescue? you delude yourself if you think I need someone to help me out of the bush. MY #1 priorities is protection from predictors.
liberatedhumanbeing 2 years ago
Second Priority is ability to procure food & water & sometimes the predator becomes the prey.
shelter is very low on my list except for bad weather, I worry about it as needed. Used to make a new one every night since I am always on the move from place to place. You wait to be rescued & starve, I will hide from the rescuer & eat good.
RESCUED BAHHH! Learn some skills & RESCUE YOURSELF from the bush. Maybe you should change your name to Sheep as you seem to think like one. BAAAAAAAAAH!
liberatedhumanbeing 2 years ago
Your awfully sure of yourself for someone who has never been in these situations before. I think your full of shit. Survivorman is not a show catered to survivalists anyways so I have no clue what your fucking point is. Here's a screen name for you: 10lbsofshitina5lbbag@selfrighteousprick.c0m

blake983 2 years ago
uhh jealous is not an option when you are talking possible wasted loss of life.
