  • One important piece of information is WRONG - Magic Lantern IS NOT SUPPORTED for 7D.

  • The canon T3i already has full manual audio control... canon t2i only has auto audio controls that sucks.

  • I returned my t3i to the store and got Magic Lantern on my new t2i. No AGC = amazing sound! And I'm monitoring audio through headphoned with a USB Sescom cable. And that's just some audio tools. Go Magic Lantern, go t2i!

  • The interesting thing is that on the t3i the hiss is louder with the Rode Videomic plugged in than with the built in camera mic! Not the case with t2i...And I know the RVM works fine.

  • Just want to share my experience: I just bought a t3i and the audio hiss is terrible, much worse than the t2i I used before (with just Rode Videomic plugged directly into the cam). I'm seriously considering returning the t3i and getting a t2i instead. As far as I know the Magic Lantern for t3i does not (yet?) fix audio monitoring or AGC disabling. If I have to choose between flipout screen (t3i) and better sound (t2i with and without Magic Lantern) my decision is easy. Get rid of the noisy t3i.

  • Remove the "7D" from your intro and tags, please.

  • Could you explain why are you mentioning that the Magic Lantern will also work on the Canon 7D when their website is still saying that the Magic Lantern is not working on the 7D!!! Unless you see something that I didn't.

  • is that mean we can buy cheaper cable to connect it to our external mic with magic lantern installed?please answer, thank you

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • You are totally right. ML is da bomb.

  • Hello. Is it possible to disable the AGC od Canon 600D (T3i)??? If so, then how... thank you :)

  • good vid: :)

  • @thefunnyman49 A lot of Hollywood shoots with the 7d and 5d, so why not Canon?

  • Thanks for this heads up! I happened to hit this by accident and boy am I stoked! I can finally use my camera for video! One questions thought - why not post the link to the site?

  • Here's an easier solution to your problem, /watch?v=p1cuTFDnwTw

  • @KidBajan That is adding hardware, that is the opposite of Easier. I'm not likely to be walking around shooting carrying a Pre-amp in my hand, or setting up a battery rig for it.

  • my canon 7d would love some magic lantern firmware but unfortunately canon boosted their firmware security after the 5dii! & therefore magic lantern IS NOT available for Canon 7D (as at August 2011). The tone into one channel whilst clean audio recorded on the other ("crappy") solution is the only solution for the 7d to recorder decent audio on camera. Recording audio off camera in a zoom h4n or similar is by far the best solution. Would love the other magic lantern features too but no dice! :(

  • HEY i want one of those big monitors!

  • Indeed

  • sounds like too much treble

  • @ThisIsBillyH I did nothing in post so you could hear the difference.

  • @BlackwaterOpsDotCom It sounds better now

  • Hmm, I've been contemplating buying a Canon 600D...

Should I buy it now or wait a week for Canon to release 7 more, newer cameras all with the exact same spec... but all with minor differences(and prices) to create an illusion of choice.

  • You can do a "hack" by feeding a 19 khz tone (from a MP3 player) in to the left channel and the microphone in to the right channel. Dave Dugdale have a great video about it.

  • @HardwareFreak1 Yeah, i mentioned that in my video. That is an awful hack. Software is a much better solution, and doesn't add to the "clunkiness" of my rig.

  • Have u tried the cannon hack and development kit CHDK firmware?

  • Much better

  • though you was going to say "and shooting an 8 minute video may take...3 minutes" but i was wrong =[

  • Are you in your garage? You can almost here conversations in the Cars going past. (Sarcasm)

  • THANK YOU! This has been making me crazy! Well, crazier. Haha

  • Is that a 32/40" monitor/tv? Do you not find it too big for computing? I ask as my tv is 32" and I think it'd be too big for a monitor @lockergnome

  • @GingerEskimo 51" My primary display is 300 inches.

  • @GingerEskimo--I have a 32" LG 120hz 1080p TV I recently acquired for $449 and is the best addition I have ever made. Clarity, contrast and comfort is far better than any of my other 19 to 24" units and the TV is outstanding. Size can be a personal choice or a necessity when space is considered but knowing what I know now, I would have made room for the 32 inch unit. I wish I could afford three more.

  • finally

  • i like the way he says suck.

  • Can you do a video on upgrading Rack server's BIOS? (The HP ProLiant DL360 G3 is the one I'm most interested in.)

  • I love it when after hours of fighting a problem, I find the solution and it's a feature.

  • How many inches is that screen on the background?

  • Chris talks alot LOL!

  • External recorder is the best way to go. You use the pre amp/ "auto gain" designed by a microphone company instead of a camera company. It produces great audio + you can monitor it. A Fantastic solution for compact camera users and entry level camera users.

  • @AussieVlogging I like Gain in Post. If I'm not shooting live, just give me audio that is the same through out, and I'll do with it as I want.

  • Does it also work with the T3i, 600D ?

  • Will this void the warranty!? ;o

  • Magic Lantern FTW! I had it on my T2i for about a year now.

  • RIGHT!

  • The 5D Mark II has a firmware update and the 60D,600D/T3i have the ability to turn AGC off with the default firmware.

  • @xboxlive6 600D/T3i doesn't have a "remove AGC" feature. All you can do is lower the input volume.

  • @untouchable4rc AGC = Automatic Gain Control. You can switch between manual or automatic. When It's in manual you can adjust the input gain instead of the camera automatically increasing the gain when the person is not talking and then decreasing the gain when the person starts to talk again.

  • @xboxlive6 Which can be very annoying in this type of video. But with manual control of the input gain you can set it to the correct gain level and not have to worry about the camera increasing the gain after a pause.

  • @xboxlive6 could you tell me how to do this because i cant seem to find AGC in the menu settings? and also i cant find anything in the manual. thanks.

  • @ilovethesimpsons8 It's under Sound Recording. You set the mode to Manual and then set the Level to the desired setting.

  • @xboxlive6 i have magic lantern but i dont know how to turn agc off *t3i*

  • I still hear a hiss.

  • Do you really suggest installing Magic Lantern on a 600D/T3i at this point?

  • @ShakeAndBakeGuy no different, t3i = t2i +flip out screen

  • @cks1001 But the firmwares are different. They are different.

  • IS that a My Little Pony wallpaper on that TV? (Looks like Pinkie Pie)...

  • @WakingLife55 It is some Orchids I took a pic of.

  • @BlackwaterOpsDotCom Oh lol, fair enough

  • sorry dont want to be a bugger but it sounds the same. i have a audio technica lavalier mic i use for school presentations and it sounds better then this. but it seems like other viewers think its ok

  • @jh3835 Lavalier are great if you only ever have one person. I don't. I should likely have both, but I'm cheap, and I don't want to have to put a mic on before I shoot... Especially when I do a lot of back and forth and taking things apart and putting them together.

  • I don't think you have Stereo speakers... I don't necessarily know which I think sounds better, but they definitely don't sound the same.

  • Very good video man, thanks for trying to help people out! I'm using a JVC Everio so no worries there, but MAN, this would be reaaal useful if I had one of them Canon's. Cheers.

  • im sorry but know one needs a screen that big for there computer

  • I like this dude.. he has answers that I already knew but he really finalizes them so I can be an expert on the issue.

  • i mean, why would somone have a 7D or a 5D and not know how?

  • wtf

  • Huh??

  • That's a huge ass tv

  • Chris definitely does love to talk and talk and talk

  • Trust me, you sound 100x better than Chris Pirillo.

  • I have a T3i(600D) with Magic Lantern and it does not disable AGC.

  • @untouchable4rc yeah, they haven't coded it for the 600d yet, but they will

  • Don't use Digital Gain, Use only analogue set at 26-32 for the best sound

  • right is louder

  • Left is better.

  • Comment removed

  • I could have told you how to fix it lol, you should have posted it to questionstoanswer.

  • Cool video - AGC sucks ass, it's the first thing I disabled when I got my 5dmk2

  • The left is clear. The right has static.

  • I thought it was not available for 7D? Yes or no?

  • @GabeVillatoro Correct, Magic Lantern not available for 7D and probably never will be. You can use the juicedLink DN101 to disable it. Pretty dumb Canon doesn't just add this as a custom function.

  • The 550d and the t2i are the same thing...

  • @ddaryoush16 Yeah, I said that. -Brandon

  • Cant tell the different

  • MOTHER OF GOD I WANT YOUR DISPLAY

  • Known about this firmware for a while, ThisWeekInLinux uses it on all his t2i's :)

  • @Kuckti15 Oh, so you knew all along and didn't tell me how to fix my problems? Some friend you are. :-) -Brandon

  • @skaterboy212436 No, you get a re-start gap of about 750ms

  • I've been using Magic Lantern on my T2i for about 8 months now. It's amazing!

  • I just want you to know, I watch all of your videos and 100% of the time I don't know anything you guys talk about.

  • Sounds good.
