I have nothing against the Russians, but the question is why only Russia? aren't there other nations that can lend money as well? search elsewhere too. Maybe the Chinese, the Brazilian, the Mexican or the Canadian economic giants might be able to inject some money. We'll see what happens.

Just because Russia helps Iceland does not mean Iceland becomes a soviet nation. Besides the soviet union no longer exist! It is however a good propaganda tool to demonise others. Just like the idea of spreading democracy has become a reason to invade countries regardless of other factors. Russia is helping other countries in need. That is a good step forward.

Iceland can easily raise foreign currency by liquidating some of its foreign acquisitions. Philip Green has already offered 2-billion for Baugur Group's UK assets, but Iceland's Finance Minister complained that this was coercive opportunism. Accept the piffling 4-billion Russian deal, and he'll know what coercive opportunism really means.
