  • I love this style, but my fine hair had problems holding it all day without it slipping back on my head.

But then I came up with an idea: rather then starting with a ponytail, instead do two dutch braids. Just curve each dutch in the circular shape that the tapped hair normally lays, then line the braids up with your dutch and sew UNDER your dutch braid when you tape.

It makes it rock solid and will last thru a night (or two!) of sleep for me!

This could probably work for shorter hair too!

  • @ebnWillowMoon Exactly! I mentioned your very technique in one of my later vids where I employed the taping in another hairstyle. I'm so proud of you for figuring it out for yourself!

  • @torrinpaige I also had this idea (although I haven't tried it) to combine this with the interlaced braids idea. Rather then going back and forth between the two braids, either do a zig-zag back and forth under each dutch or wrap it around the dutch (just like the ribbon, only using hair).

Don't know if either would work, or be comfortable, but it might be a "no ribbon" way of doing hair taping!

  • Wow! that is just plain beautiful and I am definitely intrigued. I really want to try it in my hair to see if it will work. the thing is, I have 60 inch, 4.7 inch thick hair. I know EXACTLY what it's like to get headaches every updo, and, since I can't find many updos that are easy enough to whip up, I end up with a plain old bun at the back of the head--which gives me a headache 9 out of 10 times. :D I believe this is the next hairstyle for me to try. :D

    Love the tutorial!

  • how do you braid your hair that way? Great vid. x

  • @ConstanceMarkiewicz Back in my archives I have a "Rope Braiding for Dummies" tutorial...the rope braid is SUPER easy!

  • damn, watching your videos always make me want to grow my hair long.

but right now, I'm stuck in that adolescent (17yo) period of dying/bleaching my hair really often. even if I grow it, it wouldn't be healthy. I'd need to chop it all off and regrow or something.

anyway, love love love your stuff, this one in particular is amazing. hahaha~

  • Ah gorgeous! Ditto on loving all of your tutorials. And your hair is the prettiest flaxen color :) Any chance you would take a request for Edwardian hairstyles ala The Forsyte Saga ladies?

  • @AnjouClothing I just did a quick google image search and saw that Damian Lewis is in it, so it looks like I'll have to get my hands on it and take a gander. :o) If anything strikes my fancy I'll do a tutorial. :o)

  • My hair is thin, dyed, and elbow-length, and I've just done this. It even works on shorter hair because I did this on my friend whose hair is about three inches shorter than mine and it didn't quite go all the way around her head, but the effect was the same. It looks really pretty and it's SO easy! Thanks so much for this--it was one of the first videos of yours I'd ever seen back when I was a Sophomore in high school. I finally have long enough hair to do some of your looks! I'm so happy! :D

  • @DreamingODaisyChains I am too! I'm glad you finally got to do it - now get cracking on the other ones. :o)

  • @torrinpaige Oh, I definitely am! I'm so excited!! Thank you so much for being the inspiration to grow my hair out! :D

  • This is my favourite hair style. I used it for my 16th century wedding. And if your hair is not so long you can add a round roll of fake hair.

  • I absolutely love this hairstyle, it's SO BEAUTIFUL!

  • OMG! I love your hair! I'm so jealous of its length and texture! It's all shiny and healthy! Can you give me some advice on growing my hair please? I'm Asian and have straight hair, but they never seem healthy when I grow them long =(

Thank you so much! And love your tutorials!

  • <3 <3 <3

  • Wish i had the hair for this!

  • you have beautiful hair!

  • WOW, looks really nice, any man who says he doesn't like long hair is lying haha. Hopefully I can help my wife do hers like this!!

  • @Heath75032 Um, okay? Why is it you left this particular comment on my hair tutorial? It's got nothing to do with religion...it's a hairstyle from Elizabethan times.

  • @torrinpaige Sorry, I should explain. ( I gather my comment got a lot of thumbs down). I've come to believe that a woman's hair is more than some fuzzy growth on top of her head. The Bible calls a woman's hair her "glory". It's important psychologically to a woman. If we're having a bad day, we call it a...well, you know! I believe that the religious requirement to keep the hair under wraps is more evil than it appears on the surface. It stifles her dignity and self esteem.

  • Umm weird question but your hair is very pretty and long so i was wondering what shampoo and conditioner you use?

  • God bless you, seek God your hair is beautiful

  • my hair is waist length and i usually struggle to come up with hairstyles as most of the magazines and tutorials are for short length, Thank you¡¡¡¡

  • Wow! Just stumbled onto the LHC forum and followed your link over. Have never heard of hair taping, though I used to experiment with ribbons but just as decoration. Looking forward to trying this. Pins give me such terrible headaches - but I need some updo options to stop my baby pulling my hair out! You have such lovely hair!

  • Torrin, I just love your hair and your hair tutorials !! also i like your personality !! :)

  • I just tried this and my hair barrreeely made the loop around, you could see the tails something awful. I was having trouble keeping the 'smooth' hair over my scalp 'smooth', while I was fussing with the braids it released all the little frizzies. :( So annoying! Then again, I already had curled hair from the day before so it wasn't really cooperating. On to try number two tmrw morning - can this be done with wet hair?

  • This is amazing...I want to do fun stuff w/ my hair before I hack it all off. Gosh, I wish I had a knitting needle RIGHT NOW. (My hair is midback, not as long as yours, but I'm SO game to try this)

  • That is sooo pretty! My hair isn't quite long enough for that yet, but I'm still going to try it out. Thanks for the tutorial!

  • I LOVE your tutorials! You have the most gorgeous hair... wish I had the patience to grow mine that long :) Great styles, all very pretty and charming!

  • Beautiful, my hair is only just below my shoulders, so not long enough yet. I can't wait until it reaches waist length, that's what I was striving for in the first place. It would be a perfect Renaissance hair style, thank you for sharing!

  • Oooh my darling! I would totally wear and up do like this for my wedding. :-)

  • Hey Torrin! I love this up do. I'm currently trying to grow my hair longer, but with all the damage of hair dyes, heat etc I need to get it trimmed. How long is your hair and how long did it take to grow it to that length? Thanks :)

  • Hey Torrin! I'm not sure if you've seen this (you might have already), but I think Scunci caught on to this great look :) They now sell a "design weaver" kit that comes with a little needle-like tool and some fabric to weave through a hairstyle. I immediately thought of you when I saw this and I ended up buying it. I had planned on buying the yarn needle you'd suggested anyways and since this kit was just right there at CVS I just went for it. I can't wait to try this look :)

  • My hair used to be waist length. Three years ago, I bobbed it for summertime because I decided it was too hot and totally regretted it. It just hit mid-back. -_-

I love your hair! The color is gorgeous and it's so straight! I cannot wait to try this out!

  • Your hair reminds of Sailor Moon's :D

  • thank you for this. i have hair that goes around my thighs not to mention i have some ribbon left over from my costume. so i'll be trying that thank you so much. cause now that summers here my hair starts to become a teeny bit annoying.

  • erm can i just ask something? how would you take out the ribbons? thank you!

  • @Curiouslyobsessed You just untie the bow and pull it out back the way you came, loop by loop. The take down is really pretty fast.

  • @torrinpaige Thanks so much =)

  • TORRIN !!!!!!!!!!!! Yay someone who has hair just like mine & LOVES it !!! :)

I've been trying to find someone who has hair like mine , same length , thickness & texture who could do all kinds of hairstlyes. I've had my hair waist length (straight cut on the bottom just like yours) since I was 16, I'm 25 now. I'm a Civil War & Victorian re-enactor & can't seem to get my hair to stay up from the weight. I am SO excited to try your styles !!! Tired of braids. Thanks so much for all your videos :)

  • thank God, I finally found someone with loooooooooooong hair. I've been trying to make styles for my hair but all those were for medium hair and mine goes down the hips and it had been a real mess :(

    the video was great... :)

  • Just got a new toy at Walgreens. It's called a "Design Weaver" and the brand is scünci. It's basically a needle for weaving fabric through your hair. It has a bigger eye on it, so you could use it if you wanted to use bigger ribbon than you can with the needle used in the video.

  • My mother use to do this hairstyle to me when i was younger, to keep my hair up and out of my way. I remember going to school and having people ask how my weaved the ribbon in. This was such an awesome tutorial!

  • Why I've my looong hair cutted?! ç^ç

Anyway, very beautiful!! :) I'll try as soon as my hair grows enough! :D

    Thank for the tutorial!!

  • Thanks for the demonstration; it was very interesting and informative. I like to see how people do their hair as opposed to following directions in a book. Thanks.

  • I love putting ribbons through my hair and I love braids, so this video made me so happy!!! x3 I'm definitely going to want to try this. It looks so pretty, and your hair is amazing!

  • Love this style! Your hair is so beautiful and I am currently growing my hair out to this length so I can do hairstyles from this period. What kind of braid did you do?

  • @jbb556 I used a regular two-strand rope braid, but you can use any kind you'd like, or none at all. You can just twist it and clip it, then sew it in. That might work if you feel your hair is just a bit short to be braided...as braids tend to eat length.

  • That was beautiful. I just cut my hair because the ends were really dead. I am going to grow it out again tho and try this!

  • Good night! Just one of your braids is thicker than my whole head's worth! I'm currently somewhere between BSL and waist... I'm just gonna have to be patient and wait until I can give this 'do a shot.

  • your hair makes me want to vomit with jealousy rage lol! You have the most lovely hair:) I love your tutorial, it really helped me with keeping my gable hood on:)

    Thanks so much!

  • Amazing video! I found it while I searched for solutions to heavy hair (my hair is 50 inches long). I would love to try this, but I am worried the rubber bands will damage my hair- I have read so many times not to use them "ever", but buns are too heavy and I read braids are damaging, too! Do you use rubber bands often and do you ever have damage from them? Your hair looks undamaged and pretty... Also do you know if braids are damaging? -Thank you!

  • Wow, fabulous! I had hip length hair a few years ago and stupidly cut it off. I've now started growing it out again (currently about APL) and I can't wait until it's long enough to do styles like this. I never used to bother with fancy braids last time it was long, I mostly just had it in a pony tail. Sooooo gonna try this once it's a little longer :D

  • LOVE it! You can add pearls to the ribbon as you go too!

  • I just think you are awesome, I work at a ren faire and I'm learning different things to do and one of them is different braiding and hairstyles you have helped me a bunch :) I was also wondering how long it took you to grow your hair that long because i'm growing my hair out again and wanted to know how long it would take since i have always loved my hair when it was long.

  • This. Is. AMAZING!!

  • just one of your braids already seems to be thicker than my whole braid ;_;

anyway,i like to do this style, altough my braids end on top of my head...but the taping makes is a lot easier to prevent everything from falling apart haha^^

i hope i'll reach waist length by summer 2012,my hair seems to grow extra slow (but maybe that's just my impression because i want to it to grow long overnight)

  • Thanks so much for making this vid! It's taken me a long time to get the hang of it, and I'll let you know how I've tweaked it a little. I have mid-thigh hair. I use one hairtie on the end of the braid. I use one braid and wrap it all the way around and back on itself. That thin ribbon is essential. I leave an end hanging and tie it in a bow right at the other end. Peace :)

  • I absolutely love what you can do with your hair! I can't thank you enough for your tutorials :) After watching this video I was able to do the Elizabethan do. But, I had a problem with the braids sliding back on my head and tried to separate. What am I doing wrong? What do you suggest I do? My hair goes to the top of my bottom. Thanks :)

  • @aprillynn1975 Mine will slide back just a bit, but my braids usually don't separate. Make sure when you sew to keep as much tension as you can on your ribbon and when sewing into your scalp hair to come up as close to the braid as possible..that should help. You can also sew in another color ribbon going in the opposite direction..if you started on the left side, start on the right instead. It makes a pretty criss-cross pattern and should hold up really well.

  • So pretty! ^__^ I love how personable you are. I feel like I've known you for years. xD I don't even have long hair. My hair is almost up to my chin. I just watch your videos to see you and your beautiful hair. =D

  • any tips you get your hair to grow longer? mine is thick and curly so it seems to take longer but it is just because it spirals.

  • @faerydustcollector my hair is the same way. it's now hip length...if you wear it curly I suggest using pro scissors and cutting it home when it's soaking wet if it needs trimmed. Salons take too much off the ends. also if you want to do an updo with that type of hair you need it to be wet as well.

  • Neat!

  • wow! :)

  • O.o i always thought that that hairdo was just a headband..now it makes much more sense..i want long hair now!

  • This is really cool :) My hair's maybeeee a couple inches before it hits my waste but I'll just wait another year for it to get to be long enough to do this. I can't wait.

  • tell me the secret to long beautiful hair :(

  • @melliexo Excellent nutrition, no chemicals for color or curl, and let it air dry. Blow dryers and hot styling appliances are death to growing out your hair. Use high-quality shampoo and conditioner. My hair is as long as this lovely lady's, and I've used Biologe normalizing shampoo and conditioning balm for almost 20 years. Have the ends trimmed a bit every couple of months so your hair doesn't look like it's been chewed by rats. Other than that, it's all time and genetics. Enjoy!

  • @RepublicTX This information is much appreciated! I stopped blow drying my hair over 5 years ago, I curl my hair maybe 4 times a year and straighten my hair about 6-8 times annually. If I do, I use heat protectant spray but tbh I swear they never work. Still, the amount of times I apply heat appliances to my hair is very rare, so that shouldn't be my issue. I guess I need to get my hair trimmed a little more often and my nutrician in check which is difficult being a full time student. Thankyou x

  • Respond to this video... continuing... I just checked in my bathroom, can you believe it, I actually have some Matrix Biolage with bamboo but I discontinued usage after getting Keratin treatment a few months ago. I may start using it again. I probably should invest in that balm too. Thanks alot!

  • Wow.. definitely favoriting this video so that I can try it when I reach my goal of waist length :D

  • Your hair is beautiful.

Thank you I thought that I´m strange when I´m sew my hear. :-)

  • my friend MaryBell has hair down to her knees, and she's 6'0 tall but the hair is lovely strawberry blond kind of colour. I think I may try to do this with her hair next time she's over at mine, because one of her biggest complaints is the headaches she gets

  • oh. my. god that's beautiful. And you look amazing in it!

  • OMG, I love it!!! I have black hair to my waist. My goal is to let it grow out to my buttcrack, lol. I live in Arkansas & we have a festival in our town that has tours of the civil war houses in this area. Volunteers dress-up in period costumes. I am going to be one this year and have been trying to find that 'it' do for my outfit. Love all of your video's, love to be friends with u on fb.

  • i think this is much more prety than the crown braid no offense to the people how like it better but this is easyier looking and more colorfull

  • LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT.

  • niiiiiiiiiice

  • i saw this video a while back and ive been trying to grow my hair since, its gotten the longest ive ever had it and its still growing! i cant wait to do this with my hair!

  • Thank you so much for posting these videos. I was getting annoyed with my extra long hair and the boring 3 strand braid. Was thinking of a haircut, but now thanks to you I found many other hair-dos.

  • I'm jealous i wish my hair was a lot longer so i could do this! It's so pretty :) I got my hair braided in a french crown at a renaissance festival and im trying to make it last as long as i can because i love it and my mom tried to do it once and gave up haha this seems easier though (if my hair was long enough that is)

  • Oh my gosh! your hair is gorgeous!

  • I finally tried this, this morning. I now know my calling in life. To show how NOT to do Torrinpaige's hair styles. Too bad I'd break the camera or I'd do that. Also, too bad one can not make a living out of being a clumsy idiot. But hey, my hair is up off my back and it's humid as Hades so as long as I don't go out in public, I'm set.... is Hades humid?

  • That's so pretty :) My hair is almost waistlenght, but it's still too short :/ But it'll be the first thing I do when my hair is longer! Can't wait *-*

  • This is lovely. And I *do* think I am going to try to do this when I go to our local renaissance faire this year! <3

  • So beautiful! =D Awesome tutorial. Your videos are all very good. Thumbs up. ^^

  • Beautiful. :)

  • she is very good I like it.

  • this is a wonderful tutorial! i never know what to do with my hair, not only is it long, but it is extremely heavy and causes me headaches all the time, no matter the style...I'm going to try this asap:)

  • I so love this. I have a problem with having a sencitive scalp. My daughter has the same prob. My daughter said we could use metalic ribbon. It is so pritty.

  • thats sooo cute

  • i absolutely love my long hair and i have had people tell me all the time it would be easier if i cut it short, or short hairstyles are fun and edgy etc etc.....i have always preferred long hair and i will keep it long. their really are so many options, can do elizabethan hair styles, gorgeous full buns, tons of braiding options, curls etc etc...

  • My hair is not nearly long enough to do this... YET. But I absolutely love it and your tutorial was the first one I understood. Thanks!

  • This is sooooo pretty! What a good idea to sew it!

  • wow, thank god for your uploads , especially referencing the weight issue of long hair, now i just need to not be so lazy, i keep watching all your videos, loving them and then imagining taking them all out before bed, and oh gawd......

great work , and such a nice fun host.....thanks

  • you are darling and a savior to those of us who grow it to a certain length and then cut or layer it in despair...thanx!

  • You're so cute! I love this 'do! Can't wait to try!

  • you have the most beautiful hair :)

  • Amazing O_O

  • I love the style!!

  • Im in a renaissance fair and we protray the italian renaissance. The ladies do hair taping all the time and I LOVE it. It's s comfortable and you can deffinately wear it for a few days.

  • Thank you!!!!!

Ladies..... See ROMANTIC movie clip A knight and his lady

  • WOW! This is spectacular! Your tutorials are so helpful!

  • My Spanish is atrocious. Um the gist of moyole's message is that she cut her hair very short recently, but luckily it grows fast, and with the help of Rosemary oil it will be pretty like mine? Am I close? Can I get some help from my bi-lingual people? My Spanish teacher would be ashamed. Two years of Spanish and I can barely order food properly. (In my defense that was *cough* 18 years ago.)

  • @torrinpaige: moyolehuani22's message translated: "you look like Repunzel, ha ha! I love it. Like an idiot, I cut my hair short a while ago. My hair was nearly down to my waist, and I cut it short like a man's. Now I miss it a lot. What can I do to make it grow fast and as pretty as yours? I'm putting rosemary on it right now. Is that good? I think it seems to be helping."

  • @frodosmummy Thank you!

  • My hair is slightly too short for this style when braided. if you just twist the ponytail halves you can pull this off with slightly shorter hair.

  • What a great idea!!!!! I had always had long long long hair until after I got married and decided to cut it short for the first time .... of all that time I would have never thought to use a needle!!! =)

  • AMAZING. But my hair's only shoulder length. I'm impressed.

  • Hmmm... I LOVE this style, but I'm wondering what the easiest way the get the ribbon back OUT of my hair is going to be? Just pull it back through the way it was sewed? I wonder if my hair will try to hang on to it/ tangle when I try to do that...

  • you should do a marie antoinette hair style :) .....that would be kick ass

  • This tutorial is great!!

P.D.: I love your hair, is sooo cute!!!

  • You'r hair is such a pretty color!

  • YAY for all your hair videos, I am doing my own hair for an opera, set in Vienna in early 20's and was CLUELESS as to what to do, this gives me some good ideas

  • As you say, not completely period, but it's absolutely lovely. Great instructional video. BTW, you have magnificently beautiful hair. Thanks for posting this.

  • lovely hair..keep it up.. thanks for the vid..!!

  • Very cool!

  • cute thx alot :)))

  • This is a cute style.. maybe try a topsytail in the pony before you braid, it might add an interesting spin on it..but good job..

  • A wedding 'do, eh...? *begins to plan!*

  • Lovely idea! I've an idea for a short-hair option, which I plan to try when I am... home and stuff. Also, idea for not using the big ponytail holder.

    I miss my hair... T_T

  • That's very very very pretty !

  • This is an awesome idea, my hair is nearly waist length, and you're so right--you can get headaches from just the weight of a ponytail! I thought I was just making it up. My hair's a bit too short for this do, but as soon as it's long enough I'll definitely try it! Thanks!

  • Slowly growing my hair back out into the length of your's. Chopped all of it off a few years ago and it takes forever to grow out! Love the style, definitely reminds me of Ren Fair!

  • You have the most lovely hair, thick, healthy, and the best, most beautiful color I've ever seen! Never ever cut it!

  • I am Pierre an hairdresser-hairstylist from France and I have many customers who want let their hair grow like yours but their hair are not so nice than yours and if they could see your hair, they would be jealous for sure. If someday you will come in France, I would be proud to welcome you in my salon ... but no scissors for your hair, just cares for them and it would be my pleasure. I am dreaming to have such customers in my salon, with very long and very beautiful hair like yours.

  • @Figaropc hi stylist i just wanted to give you a very helpful advice for long hair i tried this and get the result in 1 month i used coconut hair oil and honey within 1 month my hair was 3 to 4 inches long hope this will help you

  • your hair is so beautiful!

  • Woah thanks soooo much!! I've been trying to find things to do with my hair, but it... usually falls down... With really long hair people should be able to make really awesome things right? But... I even went to a hairdresser once who wasn't able to put it fully up... =/

So this is great! Thanks again!!

  • I always wondered how they did that. Sewing is brilliant! I adore you! If I were a guy I'd so stock you (in a non threatening way). LOL

  • i love this! i wish my hair was long enough to do this!

  • yaaaay :D

  • This is adorable. Reminds me of Ginger Rogers!

  • It looks really beautiful, I just don't like the bit where you can see the ponytail. I'd try to frenchbraid my hair on the head, then part it into two and continue like in the video, so I don't need to use a rubber band.

  • i wish i had hair that long. i would love to be able to do styles like that. Alas I can never seem to get it past my shoulder...

  • Thanks for this hairstyle! It's beautiful and it's so nice that it's for long hair

  • I never actually thought my headaches have been a result of my long hair tied up on the top of my head...

  • Great! thank you. I really enjoyed this video

  • thank you for posting this! as someone with truly long hair (not the foot long "long" hair they have in hair magazines), it's so difficult to find hairstyles for it! this is beautiful and i'll definitely be trying it as well as watching the rest of your videos. thank you!

  • Wow, that's beautiful! I've always had a terrible time getting my long hair to stay up. Such a great idea! Thank you for posting this tutorial. By the way, your hair is gorgeous.

  • very beautiful

  • o M G

you have the most amazing hair i have ever seen !!

  • I will have to try this some day!

  • This is sooo gorgeous! Thank you so much! I do a lot of reenactment things, and your vintage hairstyles are just what I need!

  • awesome! i wish only that long hair wasn't that heavy! i used to have it!

  • Oh my goodness, this is absolutely beautiful, and you make it look so EASY! My hair is just to my waist, although it's pretty thick. I may have to try this out, it just looks so pretty!!

  • Oh my gosh, I wish my hair was that long. I can't seem to get mine to grow! plus it breaks off. xD How did you get yours so long?

  • beautiful torrin, thank you.

  • Awesome! I did this for the first time today, and there's one thing I have to note- If you have exceptionally thick hair, you're gonna need more ribbon. I used about 4 yards ;D

Now that I know how to do it, I need some more colors of ribbon, some clear hair bands, and some clippies or bobby pins. I used toothpicks this time because I was in a pinch ;P

  • Lovely! :D I've been doing my hair in a style pretty similar to this, but using pins, etc instead of sewing it on - headache! Thanks a lot, I'll definitely try this!

  • What a beautiful hairdo!

  • You're totaly cute and so lovely! I enjoyed viewing this video, thank you! :)

  • you are just the sweetest thing ever!

I can't wait to try this! I've been trying all sorts of ways to get my hair up like that!

  • I'm just past BSL, and I cannot wait until my hair's long enough for this one! :)

  • so pretty and easy!

is there your dog walking around!? *tap tap tap* :D

  • thats cool

  • Great do.. I can't wait to try it.

  • Thank you! My hair is long enough but I couldn't find a way to wear it without cutting it.

  • lovely!

    and your hair is beautiful:)

  • too bad my hair is so short im going to king richeard faire and i am looking for a cool briaded look to wear there

  • My hair is too short for this! But I'm so going to do this for senior prom!! Thanks so much for the great vid!

  • lovly sexy women i like to comb your hair

  • There is nothing about you that i do not love <333

  • i want long hair like yours! it's so pretty!
