the use of adult stem cells in patients with heart failure has already been performed in over 1000 patients in clinical trials, the autologous cardiac specific stem cells discussed are also beggining to enter clinical trials....so we ask, why are these approaches not getting the attention of embryonic stem cells?
No. This trial is different. What you're talking is the typical trials done in parts of asia, germany, etc. where stem cells are taken from the bone marrow.
This study is different in that the cells are taken from the heart sphere of the patient and the stem cells from that are implanted into the damaged part of the heart to regrow the heart tissue.
Likelihood of a positive result, I'd expect, would be higher than taking cells from bone marrow...
which institute is this again? i couldnt catch it
