  • 0'00" by John Cage is a piece in which the performer has to 'do one thing' in a heavily amplified setting. Further instuctions are: you shouldn't attempt to play music, and it should actually be something that's useful or meaningful to anyone. It should also be something else every performance.

    Cage performed this piece for the first time writing down the actual instructions for this piece.

  • Right. And the second version of 0'00" uses an electronically amplified playing table, activated by a game. Cage performed it playing chess with Marcel Duchamp.

    In this performance both versions are combined.
