While this inexplicably not a violin concerto, it is an AMAZING Brahms 1 performance. Who is the conductor and orchestra? And Hilary is as beautiful as her playing.
"Her violin is a copy of Paganini's 'Cannone' made by Vuillaume. As for her strings, she uses Dominants for the A, D and G (all medium gauge) and uses a Wondertone E."
It's really quite creepy! Looking back at her Sibelius performance here on YouTube, she hasn't aged a bit! One more piece of evidence supporting my theory that Ms. Hahn is actually an android manufactured by Japanese aliens in order to take over the human race through music.
Of Origin and of tradition, to remain in its purest form of origin without variation is a tradition. I am a traditionalist. I like it as is in its purest origins. Classical remains a classique. Always.
Vanessa Mae or however you spell it, cant compare to Hilary Hahn. She destroyed a classical instrument and played pop music with it. Hilary is the real inspiring violinist not only because of her excellent techniques, but she LOVES classical music which is the true form of what music should be. Unlike vanessa who make ppl go "why isn't she cute?" "oh she's so good at violin" NONE OF THAT! VANESSA DOESNT DESERVE TO BE BROUGHT UP HERE!
although what you say is true, hip hop on the violin is a certain taste. vanessa is horrible at violin and receives way too much credit for her work, but you cant say that she represents all of hip hop on the violin. although i don't like it, it is opinion.
Hilary Hahn is an inspiring young goddess of music. It's wonderful to get a talent like hers, have your parents discover it, work hard to live up to it and share it with us. No wonder her extraordinary play, and joyful and fine personality makes her many fans adn friends. I love her music and her too.
try all of Brahms' symphonic and also don't be shy about the piano and violin sonatas.
The trios, quartets and especially the sextet in Bb.
Be sure to listen to different performances as they vary greatly and some might rock your socks while the same piece done by another orchestra or conductor will sound a lot different.
beautiful performance, but ... just a thought, couldn't you have included a Hilary Hahn performance in a Hilary Hahn tribute? Hilary - a real marketing dream: not one of those difficult artists that suffer for their art and gives their audiences their very souls. No, Hilary is just erm... nice.
Not only is the video excellent, but this is one of the best versions of the finale of Brahm's first symphony I have ever heard. Does anyone know which performance this is? If so, please post.
have you seen her play? She ruined the whole essence of classical music! she thinks that turning classical music into pop will make people like 'em, but no! you should see her play. i'm sorry
As viewer 907 I enjoyed seeing how a Classical musician still gets the attention of the public with refinement, and a positive outlook. I think it is part of the revolution taking place in violin, where the ladies now have the stage, after many decades of just men violinists being featured.
It's a good thing, at the same time, we also get to have the "it needs to bring money and more money"... bringing with it the Britney Spear's still of music in something so true and intense and...! It's probably a good thing, but really bad at the same time!... Even if let say... an ungly man with glasses would be better than Hilary Hahn... we'd never hear him! That's the bad thing about the Britney Spears phenomen
I would offer a response regarding commercialism by visual appreciation. Video/Internet now offers us worldwide, inexpensive publication. In the past, only the concert hall could provide "video", but in 3 dimensions. YouTube and DVDs provide 2-dimensional video. Every nitch in the "market" will get filled by someone (take Vanessa Mae). Women violinists bring their femininity to the stage, as men bring their masculinity. Can we ever hope to restrict that? It is a personal choice.
I personally prefer the rough sound of live amateurs. Classical music is long overplayed. When the professionals begin to compose again I will be impressed but so long as the celebrities merely regurgitate material from the masters they offer me little enjoyment, pretty face or not.
When I'll hear someone who can write music as Schonberg, Mozart, Bach, Brahms, I'll be glad to play it! Unfortunately... there's almost nothing as amazing as these pple! But you know... she created the Edgar Meyer concerto? You should find for Dutilleux's music! If you think it's overplayed... surely it's cause you don't know how many things there is still...
Great music; it tells the story of this great contemporary violinist

Does anyone know what kind of violin she has? Is it one of the famous ones, like a Del Gesu or a Strad?
Marsplasticwoman 2 years ago
I know she has a Jean Baptiste Vuillaume (french violinmaker, end of the 19th century, very famous) But probably did she play on other instruments...

all because she plays pop

I agree. Surely she can play whatever she likes without having strange people complaining about how she destroyed a musical instrument. Please.
