When I type in Crazy Life One of the first choices is Michael Buble. I find that annoying.I find him and his crooner style music annoying. He is trying to be like Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett. Once the Beatles came on the seen all that crap had become old fast.It was still around but it really seemed dated and insignificant back then and even more so 40 some odd years latter .Anyway I just learned to play this on guitar. Great song
The early 90's---just graduated college--had my own sparsely furnished apartment, and alternative/grunge music was considered "cool". Before everyone had a cell phone glued to the side of their face, a time when we survived WITHOUT the Internet. I had a beeper, phone card, and FM radio and watched "Beavis and Butthead" on MTV late at night. Those days are gone. But I would go back in a heartbeat if I were asked. I was happily addicted to "Melrose Place". It's true, "It's not over."
This is an awesome song, about a man that was not given a fair trail. The government withheld evidence doctored evidence, and intimidated witnesses. It is time to give Leonard Peltier a fair trail. If they can do this to this man they can do this to anyone at anytime.
@MrBuc128 i agree, music is not what it was in the 90's, and especially the 70's and 60's. What I will say is disregarding all music today is very shortsided... and saying music today sucks is pretty damn depressing..No better songwriters than the gin blossoms? The Black Keys, Dave Matthews, Death Cab for Cutie, John Mayer(truth be told, the guys unreal when he wants to be), John Butler, Incubus..
Plenty of good music goin on, just not as much/different than the 90's and before.
I always think of these quintessential 90's bands as bar bands. They have good tunes that you could listen to live in the bar or small venue. There's bands like this still out there, but they've been pushed to the back by super pop, rap, and hardcore.
None of the truly great musicians of this era are ever heard. They steal their sound and give it to someone who's willing to play ball. Long live true music in all of it's forms. KEEP THE HYPOCRISY OUT OF MUSIC!
@shaden0040 what you think of as rap isn't even rap it's autotuned talentless bs. Don't forget rap was better in the 90s too! So music is not in fact rap or disco on crack as you put it! Don't insult rap by affiliating it with the stupid shi* you hear on the radio. That's like comparing dautry to Toad! Plus I hear plenty of garbage coming from the likes of Katy Perry, Gawdawful Gaga, and Taylor swift!
@whopperjr916 Yeah, everything was cooler in the nineties. The rap, the cartoons, the video games, the movies the Ninja Turtles, Cheetos, cigarettes. Yeah.
today's "music" is either rap which is not singing nor music, its poetry to beats, and stolen music rifs by other more talented artists or its disco on crack and xtc.
You are a sick twisted lonely little man aren't you? Maybe the correct saying is the only good travpoet, is in the insane asylum. I do not care what you think either.
Dude I gotta tell ya. There is nothing on the radio today that even comes close to this music. I don't want to hear "Oh man you are just too old open your mind todays music is just as good as the 90's was" because that is bullshit. Toad the wet Sprocket Gin Blossoms Counting Crows Pearl Jam Blues Traveler. NAme one band on the radio today that are better songwriters than these guys. Not every song in the 90's was good but there were a lot. Music today sucks
@MrBuc128 you spoke the truth. the bands you named just flashed back a bunch of great memories from a great time. we should leave the past as the past but the past was great and the great songs written along the way helped make it something special
@MrBuc128 Not only that, most of the albums back then in the 90's had the majority of the songs on them actually worth listening to the whole thing. Like you could play the entire album with every song in its entirety. Today, not enough work is put into albums and you get like 1 or 2 legit songs on them.
All the bands you mentioned above each had at least 1 legit album where almost every song was good. Like Blues Traveler - Four and Gin Blossoms - New Miserable Experience.
@MrBuc128 Today's music doesn't suck. But you have to look very hard to find the good music. It's only today's popular music that sucks, whereas the popular music from the 70s to the 90s was great. But yeah, my favorite music is from the 80s/90s.
To give some examples of good music from the 2000s: Long Distance Calling (Progressive, intstrumental rock) (Can't think of anything else atm)
And for this song, iTunes just recommend me this when I was listening to Live. Amazing song and band. Thanks
@TheDancingForRain sorry.. have to disagree a bit. FULLY agree on most tunes from 70's - 90's being the best but after that is about the time it all started degenerating into 95% hip hop and the "gangsta" CRAP that now seems to pass for music.
@stormshadow55 True, nowadays it's all about Hip-Hop and Dance like music. I don't like it, but unlike a lot of people I won't go to their video's to hate. I'd rather spend that time on enjoying music like this.
But with today's music doesn't suck, I ment today's music that is in the same genre as this. Rock music nowadays just isn't popular anymore. Yet, if you look for it, there's still quite a few good bands out there. They're just not known, sadly.
@hethradiah78 The Strokes last album was 4 years ago, U2 haven't done anything worth getting excited about for years. I'll give you the Kings of Leon though :)
@hethradiah78 All That You Can't Believe I actually liked, and indeed own, but thats a decade old. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb seemed a little self indulgent, hardly groundbreaking and is also around 6 years old now, so hardly current. Referring to the initial post that started this though I do agree that there is still great music being written these days, I think its less in the mainstream though so you have to look a little harder perhaps.
@hethradiah78 I agree with Tweeks25. U2s' first album came out in 1979. They are by no means a current band. I was a fan of them. up untill their best album achtung baby wich was an incredible album but to suggest that they are making music just as good today is crazy. the strokes suck. Kings of leon are ok at best
@MrBuc128 i respectfully disagree sir. Breaking Benjamin, Crossfade, and All That Remains are great bands in todays age:) however i must agree that the 90's music is amazing:) it's just they both have their merits:)
@MrBuc128 Theres been good musicans in every decade, to assume there arent good ones now is a bit naive. Take KT Tunstall, she received an award for songwriting thats only given out to 2 people a year... Is she better than the ones you list? For alternative rock, and the amount of good music put out in a short time span, she beat all those guys. It took most of them a couple of albums to reach success and she did it in one. And I like those bands you list.
@MrBuc128 couldn't agree more. Music in the 90's seemed to be more worried about the quality and artistic expression of emotion through their music rather than what some CEO will think will be commercially successful. All it is today is lets find a band that copies the last successful band so nothing ever is really original today. With that in mind, bands today don't try to explore their originality, they try to be exactly like again, whatever is successful.
@MrBuc128 Lady Gaga. lol. I'm totally kidding. But One Eskimo, Peter Bjorn and John, Phoenix, Tegan & Sara, Metric, The Airborne Toxic Event? There are plenty of good bands around. We just won't know about them until ten years from now when we're complaining about how the music of that day will be crap. :)
@MrBuc128 Radio is not a good source of music not in the 90's and certainly not now. Clear channel and the other minority corporations filter out many many great groups. Here are some current good groups or songwriters IMHO; Mason Jennings, Dr. Dog, Ben Folds, and Vetiver just to name a very select few. I was born in 1982 so I was old enough to appreciate music in the 90's. I agree that music isn't what it used to be and I too love the 90's era, but I wouldn't want it any other way.
@obxdrummrx When I hear a youg person such as yourself agree with me about the state of music today I realize that it is not just a generational thing. I was in my 20s in the 90s and at the time there were many new bands with good songs on the radio. They had guitar oriented rock songs. The state eof music today awful. Iturn the radio on and hear dance oriented B.S. club music none of which i hear any instruents being played on.It's all electronic studio shit.
@lob287 It helps being a musician & actually going through music theory classes. It helps you distinguish real music from widely accepted crap of variously collaborated words which either mean nothing or people cant relate to... or both. & to think these people make millions off of whats mostly an inspired remake of an older song
@MrBuc128 Try Laredo by Band Of Horses....Too Many Miracles by Badly Drawn Boy....and The Cave by Mumford And Sons. Nobody can duplicate Toad, but seriously at least check out the first one.
@MrBuc128 Amen to that. I tell kids this all the time whenever they bash me for thinking today's "music" is shit. They just were not fortunate enough to grow up in our time!
@MrBuc128 Well, rap is music regardless of what you think(BTW what you watch on the tv isn't rap.) Getting away from that, There is great music being made today. If you can't find that type of music being made, then you're lost dude. The 90's were a great period of music, but don't dismiss all music today because of that.
@MrBuc128 Excuse me, what does my age have to do with the type of music I listen to? At least i can open my mind to other genres. If you think you're better because you only listen to rock, then you, my friend are blind. Also, like i said before what you listen to on the tv or radio isn't rap. That is pop music.
@musiclover01ization . Are you one of those that say " I like all kinds of music"? Ya know there is nothing wrong with discriminating when it comes to music. I agree one should not discriminate when it comes to people but I have a discriminating taste in music and I wont apoligize of feel bad for that. I don't just listen to everything just to say that I do. If more people had a disriminating taste in music there would not be so much bullshit out there .
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@MrBuc128 I don't like every type of music. I just try open myself to music outside of what i like best. I'll personally admit that there is some crappy music out there but there's diamonds in the rough.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@MrBuc128 Since you know i listen to rap, you also should know i listen to rap that's not mainstream or commercial. If you want, i can point out some good artists to you.
@MrBuc128 iron and wine, animal collective, the black keys, alkaline trio, atlas sound, zoogma, the mantras, future rock, the felice brothers, i don't know how the pop scene is going but there is still some good music out there you just have to dig for it.
Peltier is a douche...not some wrongly accused poltical prisoner. I've spoken to the man...and he isn't at Leavenworth, he's actually at Lewisburg...where all the idiots go prior to ending up in the Supermax.
On a lighter note....Toad is one of my favorite bands. I actually lost my lead guitarist to them a few years back. Johnny is still touring with them to this day. A great live band...no question.
Thank you, styme33... This is a great song, though I'd always wondered who or what it was about.
Peltier, according to all available accounts, was railroaded by the courts, those who testified against him later recanted their testimony yet, he remains in prison?
Former FBI Director Louis Freeh is a monster, (Ruby Ridge, Waco)... I believe Mr. Peltier's claim that the FBI used threats and coercion in order to obtain a conviction against him.
First REM,Gin Blossoms,TTWS, then came soul asylum, collective soul, and a few others who were also influenced into the sound, which ultimately opened the door for other great bands and artists such as early matchbox 20.
I grew up in the 90's and it's sad it's taken so long to find out who sung this. I heard this for the the first time in 1995 when I went to see Empire Records with my boyfriend now husband, This band is great! We're still stuck in the 90's and can't help it. We look like Deb and Burko form Emipre Records to this day!
And Peltier, the man who this song is about, who was wrongly convicted and will die in Leavenworth Federal Prison, probably hopes you will listen to the lyrics of this song along with it's great melody. To quote the song, "What have you done with Peltier? Who do you think you have taken away? Crazy life." His name is Leonard Peltier.
I am from India and came across this group by sheer good Karma. How sad is it to note to see a life wasted by miscarriage of justice. Feel like going up to where this soul is imprisoned and go on hunger strike.
@styme33 thank you for bringing that to my attention!i never realized the true magnitude of this song, though one of my favorites!i have seen shows about the fbi raid but never correlated it to this.thank you!
i had heard this on cold case once, loved it instantly lol :)

But with today's music doesn't suck, I ment today's music that is in the same genre as this. Rock music nowadays just isn't popular anymore. Yet, if you look for it, there's still quite a few good bands out there. They're just not known, sadly.
TheDancingForRain 1 year ago
@MrBuc128 Kings of Leon, The Strokes, U2 still, I just named three bands, I could name more, but you can start there, and thank me later.
hethradiah78 1 year ago
@hethradiah78 The Strokes last album was 4 years ago, U2 haven't done anything worth getting excited about for years. I'll give you the Kings of Leon though :)
Tweeks25 1 year ago
@Tweeks25 you didn't get excited about All That You Can't Leave Behind or How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb but you like this?
wow, I guess nostalgia goes alot further than I thought
hethradiah78 1 year ago
@hethradiah78 All That You Can't Believe I actually liked, and indeed own, but thats a decade old. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb seemed a little self indulgent, hardly groundbreaking and is also around 6 years old now, so hardly current. Referring to the initial post that started this though I do agree that there is still great music being written these days, I think its less in the mainstream though so you have to look a little harder perhaps.
Tweeks25 1 year ago
@Tweeks25 have you checked out Menew?
They're pretty good
hethradiah78 1 year ago
@hethradiah78 I agree with Tweeks25. U2s' first album came out in 1979. They are by no means a current band. I was a fan of them. up untill their best album achtung baby wich was an incredible album but to suggest that they are making music just as good today is crazy. the strokes suck. Kings of leon are ok at best
MrBuc128 1 year ago
@MrBuc128 i respectfully disagree sir. Breaking Benjamin, Crossfade, and All That Remains are great bands in todays age:) however i must agree that the 90's music is amazing:) it's just they both have their merits:)
Xx1AsILayDying1xX 1 year ago
@MrBuc128 Theres been good musicans in every decade, to assume there arent good ones now is a bit naive. Take KT Tunstall, she received an award for songwriting thats only given out to 2 people a year... Is she better than the ones you list? For alternative rock, and the amount of good music put out in a short time span, she beat all those guys. It took most of them a couple of albums to reach success and she did it in one. And I like those bands you list.
fairlanejay 1 year ago
@MrBuc128 yea they stink so bad..
AAAjMMMiRRR 1 year ago
@MrBuc128 couldn't agree more. Music in the 90's seemed to be more worried about the quality and artistic expression of emotion through their music rather than what some CEO will think will be commercially successful. All it is today is lets find a band that copies the last successful band so nothing ever is really original today. With that in mind, bands today don't try to explore their originality, they try to be exactly like again, whatever is successful.
Sheppy99 11 months ago
@MrBuc128 Lady Gaga. lol. I'm totally kidding. But One Eskimo, Peter Bjorn and John, Phoenix, Tegan & Sara, Metric, The Airborne Toxic Event? There are plenty of good bands around. We just won't know about them until ten years from now when we're complaining about how the music of that day will be crap. :)
toriseddie 11 months ago

MrBuc128 9 months ago 3
@MrBuc128 you have the same exact views as me. wow. I am happy to see you think the same. !! I love the 90s.. better than today by far

@cwood51785 That's good to hear.I was just around your age when this song came out.
lob287 7 months ago
@lob287 It helps being a musician & actually going through music theory classes. It helps you distinguish real music from widely accepted crap of variously collaborated words which either mean nothing or people cant relate to... or both. & to think these people make millions off of whats mostly an inspired remake of an older song
cwood51785 7 months ago
@MrBuc128 Try Laredo by Band Of Horses....Too Many Miracles by Badly Drawn Boy....and The Cave by Mumford And Sons. Nobody can duplicate Toad, but seriously at least check out the first one.
timzers7447 7 months ago
@MrBuc128 Amen to that. I tell kids this all the time whenever they bash me for thinking today's "music" is shit. They just were not fortunate enough to grow up in our time!

@MrBuc128 Well then, if you can say that then that means I'm having better luck finding good music than you.
musiclover01ization 6 months ago
@musiclover01ization Yes that is because you listen to rapp which is not what I consider music.
MrBuc128 6 months ago 4
@MrBuc128 Well, rap is music regardless of what you think(BTW what you watch on the tv isn't rap.) Getting away from that, There is great music being made today. If you can't find that type of music being made, then you're lost dude. The 90's were a great period of music, but don't dismiss all music today because of that.
musiclover01ization 6 months ago
@musiclover01ization Yeah OK thanks. As if I'm going to take advice on music from a 15 year old that listens to rap.
MrBuc128 6 months ago 13
@MrBuc128 Excuse me, what does my age have to do with the type of music I listen to? At least i can open my mind to other genres. If you think you're better because you only listen to rock, then you, my friend are blind. Also, like i said before what you listen to on the tv or radio isn't rap. That is pop music.
musiclover01ization 6 months ago
@musiclover01ization . Are you one of those that say " I like all kinds of music"? Ya know there is nothing wrong with discriminating when it comes to music. I agree one should not discriminate when it comes to people but I have a discriminating taste in music and I wont apoligize of feel bad for that. I don't just listen to everything just to say that I do. If more people had a disriminating taste in music there would not be so much bullshit out there .

@MrBuc128 I don't like every type of music. I just try open myself to music outside of what i like best. I'll personally admit that there is some crappy music out there but there's diamonds in the rough.

@MrBuc128 Since you know i listen to rap, you also should know i listen to rap that's not mainstream or commercial. If you want, i can point out some good artists to you.

MADP96 1 year ago
Thank you, styme33... This is a great song, though I'd always wondered who or what it was about.
Peltier, according to all available accounts, was railroaded by the courts, those who testified against him later recanted their testimony yet, he remains in prison?
Former FBI Director Louis Freeh is a monster, (Ruby Ridge, Waco)... I believe Mr. Peltier's claim that the FBI used threats and coercion in order to obtain a conviction against him.
