  • He didn't invent the "two-handed tapping", but he damn well popularized it!

  • The master of modern guitar playing.

  • haha man he is an inspiration

  • @SuperPlectrist I just find it is like someone telling you the same story over and over....

  • @SuperPlectrist what i mean bto say is that, it has become boring and predictable and a tad annoying in my opinion. I've been a vh fan since grade 2 and have become less than one since i discovered he is an ass.

  • Great amp but Ed jump ship with Peavey to make money. I think he should do in collaboration with Marshall and have Marshall make an a plexi head bearing his sound. Set it up with an internal variance control. This amp is great but he should have worked with Marshall. I think Ed owns the amp and owes very little to Fender once they went to.Mexico production.

  • @Stephdrewman Jimi played drums before guitar

  • same tricks...same dive bombs...same pinch harmonics...same hammeron-pulloffs...etc....He has done NOTHING new in 30 years....

  • chord @ 2:45?

  • @barkleyspider it's just a fretted G chord shape using his index finger as a capo... muting the A string...I've done it before a few times

  • Hendrix would have switched to drums if he ever heard Eddie

  • You have to watch the full interview to see how pissed he is, I hope he can keep it together I would love to see him again, last time was in 1977 Newcastle, England

  • @fireatmidnight0 he's got the trem depressed almost fully so the strings lose their tension. Easy to do, but awesome to listen to.

  • He's like Hendrix is he tapped. Rare

  • You can tell he's wasted out of his mind here, and his playing is still like magic!!!

  • I totaly agree with CozmoCag it wasn't just Eddie that made them Great Alex and the whole band and there song writing that made them the best and still are

  • what is he doing from o:41 till o:57?

  • Not one note missed by the great Eddie Van Halen.

  • Ssssh...Artist at WORK! Love it or Leave IT@!!!

  • what a lot of people seem to overlook nowadays, there wouldn't be any Vais or Satrianis without EVH, let alone the generation that now copies Vai & Satch...

  • que le paso a eddie

  • FENDER > GIBSON

  • WHY does this sound so much better than when he plays through his Music Man/ Peavey guitars?

  • @pflo99 Its the headstock mass.

  • The tone is still fuzzier than the Marshall was. Buzzy.

The Marshall he had will never be beaten.

  • @pflo99

I TOTALLY agree! Nothing beats Ed's Marshall sound he had back in the day. I wish to god Marshall would build him his next series of signiture amps.

  • @Smillzer

    Where's the "implication"?

  • im trying to figure out what he is playing at 0:57. anyone help me out to tab it?

  • Only faggots smoke cigarettes.

  • @beowulven only faggots would care about who smokes and who doesnt

  • @beowulven smoking is for fools, but your insult is way over the top.

  • When all of you haters have a guitar designed after the one you used to play for MILLIONS of fans for almost 20 years - after 80-100 million records sold- partying around the world- I'm sure someone will care what you have to say.

  • he's smoking some dope.. bad shit

  • i havent thought about getting a guitar with tremolo.. i have my les paul.. and telecaster soon.. but 0:40 - 0:55 really gave me eargasm

  • Eddie's guitar playing hasn't evolved at all. He's playing the same shit when I saw him touring their 1st album. Back then it was like, wow who is this guy, now it's just boring noise

  • @19strat57

    Thats realy true!

He aaaaalways plays the same Bullshit!!

From the Fucking Eruption Part. He never gone be tired

to suck this same stuff!! Gaargh!! I must barf!!

  • IS HE DRUNK???????? WTF HE PLAYS VERY WELL BUT I GOT BORED AFTER MINUTE 1 SO ... YNGWIE RULES

  • This guy is such a wack-job i swear haha

  • "Where's your music"? Well he's not playing a song or anything. He's testing equipment.

  • love the cigarette! on the head stock!

  • where is the rest of the band...this seems like bucket head imitating..this not eddie

  • Awsome shred, it is a space craft, not a guitar!

  • OMG so awesome!!!

  • whatever if he is drunk I still can't play 2 percent of any of this playing like him sober!!!

  • nice ed, but wheres YOUR MUSIC???

  • eddies been drunk for 30 years...Eruption and Spanish Fly two solos 20 years ahead of their time.

  • inspiration !

  • wanka wanka wanka

  • Hail to the god of rock good job Eddie your the king.

  • Yeah... he's drunk or something. But he still rocks.

  • he's loaded!

  • thats doesnt even look like eddie or sound like him!

  • man, that´s not my type of stuff but i love it!!!

  • The axe man!

  • This is pretty awesome, but if he was sober here I bet it would have been so much better.

  • what about humbuckers???

  • from wat song is it in 0:38

  • hot for teacher

  • reinds me a little of a part from Bottom up.

  • hes a guitar god!!!

  • fuck yeah! RAW!!!

  • the funny thing is you guys dotn seem to understand hes not trying to impress anyoen. hes testing the guitar and amp to see if they'll break over, and checkign how sensitive the pickups are to the signature pitch harmonics and squeals.

you can buidl replica guitars and still nto have it right >.>

I have two guitars that im tryin to make frankenstrat replicas out of and neithe rof em are perfect yet . Eddie doesnt suck hes jsut screwing around

  • The king is back!!!

  • I've seen Eddie in concert more than 50 times since the early 80s and this has to be the absolute worst that I've ever seen him play. Finally with a company that "Gets it!". That cracls me up sinc ehe got famous on the backs of other companies who made his guitars like Kramer and Peavey.

Eddie's great, but I doubt he'll be around much longer as he contiures to be a chain smoker with the cancer that he's battled with....that's a shame and he'll e another great oss to the music industry.

  • Doesn't matter if he got famous "on the backs of other companies" it's his playing that helped put those companies on the map, and just because he took their sponcership doesn't mean he had to like the results, Steve Vai got famous on the backs of Charvel but now loves Ibanez because they "get it" Eddie just thinks that Fender has made the guitar the way he's always wanted it to be.

  • EVH is a great guitar player. I also think he's terribly underrated as a rythm guitar player, he is also that.

  • WOW!!!! i think i just peed my pants

  • to be fair if he went up there and played stuff he had just written people would bitch that they wanted to hear him play the licks that theve already heard and those people are the same people that are bitchin about him playing the same stuff

  • I can't even dream what is going on in his mind. Wake up and bow before dave and beg him to sing with you.

  • Dave has grown to be retarded over the past few decades. He doesn;t belong on the same stage as Eddie.

  • that fretboard just got thrashed... badly lol

  • i know evh can play and good at it,, he inspires a lot of guitarist, example PG, but please dont play this stuff it sounds like thrash, play more musically , i know he has the talent to do it RIP MJ

  • I Absolutely Agree With you......

  • I'm so sick of this "no soul" bullshit. The dude essentially wrote his own language on the guitar. If you listen to a guy like clapton, he pretty much relies on the same arsenal of licks he's had for years but people say his has "soul." EVH does the same thing but within his own toolbag of licks and tricks. He invented a particular style of playing and he rolls with it. And lets remember this is a demo, not a jam session.

  • Clapton has had the same arsenal of licks for years? Eddie does here the same things he did in 1974 so don't talk shit man.

  • no he hasnt he has changed alot try listening to more than the first album before you try and prove someone wrong

  • sure thing mama.

  • I agree with you that he does the same things over and over. So does Clapton meaning that these guys have signature tricks, runs, or whatever and these are the things they play off of and what people recognize. And yes Clapton has definitely had the same aresenal of licks for years. It doesnt mean he sucks, just that he sticks with a particular style.

  • he just got married

  • skull roses, listen to some van halen! the band! or listen to some of his solo's!

Eddie dosent need to adapt to new shit, because he is the shit! and he WROTE those riffs. he is what guitarists call a god!

  • honestly not say that im good but, anyone can play that stuff,, he sounds like 8 years old girl who just pickup the electric guitar and try to experiment with it,, its thrashy sound,, play some music for god sake! can he?

  • yeah ediie van halen is shit in guitar he doesn't know how to play at all.. OK now I'll go cry in my bad like a babe and gine up any dreams i had about being a world known guitarist..

  • Eddie is all original he doenst need to adapt to anything

  • his strat got a coil tap?

  • i thinkso when he said "from one pickup".

  • Eddie doesn't really need to come out with anything new - he's still selling albums 30 years later because the stuff Van Halen played in the 80's kicks the crap out of anything anybody is doing today, at least the guitar part of it.

  • Well said Brother!

  • @CozmoCag Complete and utter ignorance. People like Guthrie Govan and Ron Thal dance circles around him. Both from a technical viewpoint as well as compositional....

  • @o0Slipdisc0o Bullshit. Eddie is the man and if you ask Guthrie and Ron they will tell you. Nobody has surpassed the musicality, feel and energy Ed brought to the table along with an amazing technique and style. Everybody electric guitar player after Eddie has been impacted by him in some way. This cannot be said about Guthrie or Ron. Eddie was a MAJOR game changer. Sorry those are the facts.

  • @FunDiMaio Nope, that's just you being a fanboy. Popularity isn't indicative for quality and "feel" is a subjective internal experience. The fact that Eddy once inspired a lot of people, doesn't mean that some of those very same people tear him a new one (On all aspects of the game) nowadays, without reaching the same fame. Especially looking at the fact that mainstream music's focus totally shifted from guitardriven to rappers and R&B. Eddy just had the zeitgeist/circumstances on his side...

  • @o0Slipdisc0o Not a fanboy and it has nothing to do with fame. First off, it is not a competition. Second of all talent goes beyond the number of notes you can play or the complexity of your musical ideas. Nobody has surpassed his energy, innovation and amazing musicality in such an accessible way. Sure there are faster players and technically better players and if that was intrinsically interesting you would have a point. It'd akin to saying SRV was better than Hendrix. Not the whole story.

  • @FunDiMaio Who ever made this about complexity, pure technicalities, tempo or NPS? Why are you ignoring my arguments and replacing them with some bullshit you seem to be able to better wrap your brain around? The warm feelings you apparantly get from Eddie's energy come down to an individual subjective internal concept, nothing you can use to rate the quality of other player's work, just like popularity. Players you obviously don't even know the basics on....

  • @FunDiMaio Looking at harmonic function, dynamics, melodies, rhythms, non diatonic concepts and overall theory manipulations a guy like Thal is MUCH more innovative. His songwriting is from a whole other level and more than equally accessible. The fact that it doesn't get the same recognition comes down to nothing else than a change of perspective/focus in mainstream music. Which luckily is also pretty irrelevant anyway, because popularity still isn't equivalent to quality....

  • @o0Slipdisc0o

But nobody knows who they are but you.....Do you think that you are superior because you can try to one up somebody? Edward Van Halen!!!!!!! 20,000 people go nuts.... Guthrie Gonan...??????? Blank stares. You get the picture asshole!

  • @CozmoCag really? there are WAY WAYbetter guitarist he just taps on one string and does long sutstains and uses the whammy bar alot he is basically an amatuer he does the same thing over and over tappinig simple riffs he cant sweep pick.... and he also does alot of pinch harmonics so all these guitar tricks put together makes it sound fast and good to his fands that know nothing about guitar jeff loomis, chris broderick, marty freidman, steve vai and more are accomplished know everything guitarist

  • @mmim4 ask steve vai what he think about van hallen

  • @mmim4 Rofl, Who do you think inspired all of those guitarist? You know by your logic Jimi Hendrix was shit, I mean after all he did create some new things like eddie van halen, but he just does the same thing and not as good as modern guitarist. That's such flawed logic, eddie influenced all those guitarist you mentioned. Look up Jeff Loomis on wikipedia and right on the top you'll see his influences. I mean Steve Vai is pretty much a different version of Eddie.

  • @mmim4 Without EVH and the techniques he created or innovated THERE IS NO JEFF LOOMS, CHRIS BRODERICK, MARTY FREIDMAN OR STEVE VAI, at least not in the version we know of today. There are alot of SHREDDERS but very few innovators. How many PLATINUM RECORDS, #1 SONGS, HEADLINING SOLD OUT WORLD TOURS, and HITS SONGS do those guys have? Someone with better technique is always bound to come along its just the evolution of the guitar, but that does not cancel out what the greats did B4.

  • @cfrancisco74 ok first....he is famous because he was one of the first to do what he did and who knows that if he didnt play we wouldnt have all those bands and people playing guitar so that settles that and who the fuk cares about selling out.......all im saying is he is no were near as a good guitarist as the ones i listed and his style is BOREING!!! very very repetitive so what he did was great i guess for his time but nothing special

  • @mmim4 Who the f cares about selling out (as in stadiums not one's integrity)? Only almost every mucisian who ever picked up an instrument and wanted to make it thier career.

I acknowledge ur right to ur opinion. I just wonder though what u will be saying about Looms, Broderick, & Vai when faster and more technically adept players come alomg? By ur standard they are headed 4 the same "BORING" & "REPETATIVE" opinion as EVH: "great i guess for his time but nothing special."

  • @cfrancisco74 ok your saying that guitarist will evolve that as humans our skills at things will come by nature? no..... you still ahve to work at being a great guitarist or being great at anything guitar skills isnt evolution there hasnt been any guitarist worth a fuk from 2000 on up

  • @mmim4 I said that players w/ greater technical prociciancy always come along. that is the "evolution of the guitar." As for no one great comig along since 2000 guitar playing has been in a lull since the "anti--shred" 90s, but it is happening. There is a greater empasis now on technique it is just a matter of time before someone comes along. However if that is your belief quit listenng or quit playing (if u do).

  • @mmim4 What about the guys from Dragon Force. R they Boring and Repetative? Nothing special? Not worth a fuk?

  • @mmim4 man people like you aren't meant to be guitarists, or at least not a real one, obviously he isnt as good as Broderick or Friedman or Vai but if you ask them about Van Halen they will never say his playing or boring or that what he did was great for his time and that it was nothing special, they will tell you he is a fucking genius, and that there is a lot to learn from him, if you really like the craft (guitar playing) you can learn from anybody regarding the genre you play

  • @mufc0794 its my opinion it dont like his style and music

  • @mufc0794 i agree with you dude van halen is the shiz. i wouldn't say he isn't as good as vai or whatever though. he came first and besides it's more about the music as a whole. and in my opinion he's more tasteful in a song. tracks like can't get this stuff no more, panama, me wise magic.

  • @vewsong isnt as good as Vai? Youre a complete idiot, and do not understand anything about rock n roll.....

  • dude you spoke too soon. read my comment again. i said I WOULDN'T say he isn't as good as Vai. Double negative, meaning I think he is as good if not better.

  • @vewsong fair enough....Cheers

  • @CozmoCag It's been a LONG time since I've heard a guitarist impress me who writes SONGS. All the "guitar virtuosos" are amazing players, but they can't write a catchy riff or decent song to save their lives. Eddie is a rarity in music.

  • @CozmoCag and 30 years ago, he was doing the same stuff Chet Atkins did 50 year before.... :)

  • ya dude your talking rock royalty here use ur head and think before you type.

  • Shit! he better watch that cigarette on the headstock. If he adds another burn mark all that work on the 25 grand replicas will be for nothing.

  • Shawn lane anyone???

the leadbreak to beat it is awesome....

  • I like what he says around 3:20 about Fender "getting it"

  • toddmo128... dickhead

  • three letters: MAB

  • Petrucci all the way

  • who the hell is Yngwie

  • eddie van halen is the best guitar

    player since 1979.and has totally

    proved it.very creative.

  • who the hell is Yngwie...

  • screw u the only guitarist that might be better than him is jimmi hendrix no other guitarist is as creative and skilled as EVH

  • Yea Eddie can shred however. He always sounds the same. Uses the same licks and runs as he did from when he first came out. Bag of tricks. Try listening to Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn again and you can hear the expression and soul in their sound.

  • ROFL EVH FOR LIFE

  • i have wondered over the years, what would ed, al, mike and ozzy sound like? ed and ozzy seem to have the same hang ups and issues. what do you all think?

  • yngwie is nothing but scales and arppegios...yes, he is fast, but he has ZERO creativity...EVH invented shred.

  • EVH is shred, Yngwie is a fucking noob, Ed is absolutely mindblowing

  • does anyone know what he is playing around 1:05?

  • I think he's just messing around......

  • I think it is part of "Me Wise Magic" off of the best of CD.

  • Love this video. Props to you sir.

  • You all do know that he sounds like that when he talks because he lost his tongue to cancer :<

  • Ya 1/3 of it.

  • for being drunk his playing is amazing. Way to turn it around for an amazing tour.

  • i think eddie exagerated the use of his whammy bar here...anyway, hes an excellent player

  • Eddie is amazing. He sure looks like he's been rode hard and put up wet though. Too many drugs and late nights i guess.
