  • Good stuff man just bought one today. Havnt got out to shoot it yet but i cant wait.

  • Just picked my FNP45 up today. I was worried that I didn't get the "USG" model, but I do have all the features of the USG model. I wonder if they only produce the FNP45 now with all the options. Anyhow, great review and I can't wait to try it out at the range!

  • This is nice because I am an ambidextrous shooter. Forgot to mention that. This video sold me even more. My wife even enjoyed firing this piece at the range. That was after my pal easily adjusted the grip with the flatter grip piece.

  • My next purchase will be this FN Herstal .45. I had the opportunity to shoot my buddies at the range. Fell in love with this piece. I hate to say it but I rather have this than a Glock. Incredible feel and accuracy. Easy to use easy to de-cock. Just an outstanding firearm.

  • I agree WIN RANGER T's are the best of the best...in my opinion its a better version of the black talon..

  • The more I see of this the more I like.

  • Thank you for your very comprehensive review. I may order one of these this week. Question, does the FNP 45 USG ship with all the extra gear or is that extra cost. Gun Genie just shows the 2 14 round and 1 15 round mag. I like the extra versatility this weapon affords vs the Glock 21. Example being cocked and locked option.

  • Thank you for the excellent review. I'm looking into one of these because I'm a lefty, and I love the versatility of this weapon.

  • Mine is on the way!! Matte black.

  • Well done, Lon! I would agree with the assessment. Have the matte stainless, but not the USG (hammer drop, but no safety). Shoots like a dream, and I'd agree recoil is about like a typical 9mm.

I have smaller hands, but with the thinner backstrap, that's not an issue.

Excellent review, and stay safe out there, brother!

  • Great video. Are the grips the same size when your holding them. Thickness wise?

  • hk and sig had a baby lol

  • I have researched, but came up dry.Is this gun legal for a civilian of California?

  • @jrewdown21 It's off of the California Handgun Roster. That means you can't buy it from an FFL. You can get it via private party sale or find an 07 FFL that will do an single-shot conversion performed on the pistol. (You can legally and easily revert the pistol back to its normal functioning)

  • Great firearms, poor customer service. I own a FNP45 USG, and have had it for over a year. I ordered and paid for a set of competition sights from FN back in May of 2011. I was told no ETA and the ones in stock are for new builds. Its been a dismissive, to bad to sad attitude from them. What a shame. I wanted to buy a FNAL.

  • Hows it going, i recently purchased an fnp45 and i was wondering since mine only has a decocker and no safety, that if i hit the cock the pistol and hit the decocker switch will it still fire? And if so will it be in double action or single action. Thanks

  • @successchaser - To answer (since I have the same type, which is not the USG model, but otherwise exact), if you hit the decocker switch, the hammer drops to the "half-cocked" position as shown in this clip @ 10:12 - 10:18. The hammer only drops fully when the trigger is pulled.

    Hope this helps a bit.

  • How big of a grip is the FNP-45? I held a Glock 21 before and it felt like I was holding a 2x4. I have medium to larger size hands though, but your hands seem pretty big; how would evaluate the size of the grip even though it looks larger than the 21's grip?

  • how does the FNP stack up against the m&p 45?

  • @twinpeninsulas ...I actually turned down a good deal on a M&P 45, but the main factors that I chose the FNP is: much higher capacity, sleeker design, lower price, shooters pack with 3 mags and I hated the trigger safety on it.

  • Ouch - dropping the slide on an empty chamber. Thanks for showing us your .45 though. Sweet looking pistol. Take care.

  • Excellent review, Lonmeister; extremely concise. I'm also glad you mentioned the differences between the USG and the regular. I couldn't find anyone else who even bothered with it.

  • Best FN 45 video I've seen yet.

  • TY 4 the review. I'm ex-mil and I have 2 say that I'am very impressed with your FN-45. I'm thinking about buying one. If I do, I will put it threw "my standard of trials" and I will let you know how it does. I'm convinced that it will do just fine, if not surpass my expectations.

Again, ty 4 ur review. take care man.

  • brand new to guns, fn and fnh are different companies right?

  • @slcslobalt no, its called Fabrique Nationale de Herstal. FN Herstal or FNH for short, FN for shorter

  • how much did your cost

  • I bought this gun a while ago.

I started researching it a bit and have not seen one FNP 45 WITHOUT a stainless steel slide in any of the videos i have seen. Mine has the matte black slide. I sort-of feel retarded O.O Dont get me wrong, i love the look of my gun in matte black, but its just suprising to me that the SS slide is as popular as it is.

  • I really hope this gun doesn't get noticed. So I can keep it to myself :D

  • Finally, a gun review on youtube that is properly well done! It is informative, logically put together, coherent, and holds my interest to the end! Too many other reviews are so poorly done, they are a complete waste of the viewer's time. Thank you, Lonmeister!

  • how much did the weapon cost plus the shooters package with a mlitary discount? only got two weeks till i go back to afghanistan and i was curious

  • i like how it resembles the berretta in the simplicity of taking it down, makes cleaning very simple

  • Out of all the handguns I have owned and carried the FNP 45 is the one that will never leave my side. may buy a USG at some point, wish that model was available when I bought mine. great review.

  • how's the grip size? would you say it's the same as a G21?

  • Hello and thank you for your service to the community, i have family in North Carolina, i myself live in upstate southcarolina. With these guns being manufactured in Columbia i thought they'd be floaiting all over the state but i've never seen one in any of the six local gunshops around here. All i have are glocks and h&k's but after some research i'd like to get an fnp45 but cant find one any where. Do you have to be military or a PO to own one?

  • @thefamcnaj ...No, you don't have to be Military of Law Enforcement, just have to know where to get them. Call up your local gun dealer and see if they have them or FNH themselves to see if they can get you to a dealer nearby. The gun is made with the specs of Military and LE, so it is much better than most other brands...but is available to everyone, but we get discounts. :)

  • I love my FNP45 USG. I've had mine for about a year and a half and have had no issues.

  • Good video.

  • Is that the shooter's pack?

  • Nice Vid.. Im really starting to like this gun in .45 cal.. Im going to get a Glok 21 no matter what but I think this might be my other choice.. the only other one i was interested in was the Beretta Px4 Storm but I havent heard too much about that one.

  • Great review! By the way, what thell is sarajevo's problem? The fnp 45 is made in the USA but owned by a Belgum(i think) company.

  • I can't decide on an FNP-45 USG or a Remington R1 1911 for my birthday!

    Which should I get?

  • @Jrhoney ...of course the FNP-45, better bang for your buck.

  • @Lonmeister27 That is the route I went, I;ll have to get the 1911 later this year when I find a job though :D

  • Great review man, I've been going back and forth between an FNP 45 and an HK45. Value seem's to be on the FNP's side.

  • The gun laws are workin perfect here if your an idiot if you did shit in your life you can forget to legally own a gun here but if you are a fine nice person and you dont take guns as killing instruments like your fucking blood crip gangbitches in fact you use them how they should be used for sport , collect items,or self defense you never will have a problem make your firearms license and everything is cool btw i have your yt name everyday in my holster legally so you better STFU!

  • @SARAJEVO1987HORDEZLA ...Whoa...sounds like you have anger and grammar issues, you should really get those fixed. They have a tendency to show your intelligence level and lack of common sense. :)

  • @SARAJEVO1987HORDEZLA this has to be the most ignorant, most hilarious comment Ive seen today...thanks dumbass!

  • @SARAJEVO1987HORDEZLA officially the stupidest firearm related comment i have ever seen on youtube. i don't totally disagree with your point, but you grammar is absolutely horrible.

  • english is not my mother language i dont live in the us or the uk so im excused lol btw its great when you look @ the other comments on yt and heeeey nothing against germans and germany :) i live there they are good people ...

  • @SARAJEVO1987HORDEZLA How are those german gun laws working out for ya??? You Can't even have a pistol in your home legally. STFU

  • @fiveseven76 Germans make the best guns... for AMERICANS because we're one of the only one's left that can actually own and carry them.

  • my friend the old makarov n tokarev times are gone i dont se a rival 4 the gsh 18 or the sr1 n believe me they shoot when the trigger is pulled but dont get me wrong american bullets like the .45 auto .50 ae 40 sw n many more are the shit really great ammo but the europeans have all the good guns with your ammo whats wrong with this???? you see more HK and FN than your products whats wrong with them use your fucking guns they are great!!!!

  • @SARAJEVO1987HORDEZLA ...I understood about half of your comment, but I guess we use other countries guns because they are cheaper and work just as good. I prefer a Glock or HK, but I believe the Germans make the best cars and guns...we are still lucky we all aren't speaking German right now as a matter of fact. WWII was won by Hitler's mistakes, not his lack of firepower or manpower. America is finally coming around to nicely made guns and rifles, but it will take time to perfect it.

  • lol american cops with belgium guns or german or austrian its normal that the russians dont respect you xD

  • @SARAJEVO1987HORDEZLA ...perhaps, but at least we have handguns that will fire when we pull the trigger.

  • @Lonmeister27 And hit the target!

  • @SARAJEVO1987HORDEZLA ..who gives a shit?

  • i have shot many pistols in order

to find that perfect all around pistol. mission acomplished!! This is a fantastic 45.

  • You know I had decided to get a 9 for my next fullsize handgun because my 1911 is a 45 and I wanted something cheaper to shoot. Now I'm thinking I want a double stacked 45 acp to compliment it. You probably just encouraged me to spend about $550 of my hard earned cash lol.

  • What type of holster is that at the end of your video, I'm going to see if I can find one at Bass Pro Shops this weekend?

  • @huron13hoe ...just like i said in the video, Blackhawk in the pants holster size 3.

  • Can you get a box of that ranger ammo?

  • Great job!!! I looked at this gun at my local store, and fell in love with it!!!! Just waiting for my tax's so i can buy it. Great job of covering it!!!

  • Well I figured that I just don't understand why some pistols have it and some don't. I looked at the FN website and they show it on the website, but for some reason mine doesn't have it, strange.

  • @huron13hoe ...I am guessing here, but I think that some pistols have different trigger pull lengths and this gun is designed with a long pull and large trigger guard opening. So, perhaps that's why, and I have seen the same thing as you have on other pistols too.

  • I recently bought mine in December, I noticed on a few triggers (yours not mine) there is a bump of plastic on back if the trigger. Why is it on some triggers and not on others?

  • @huron13hoe ...I am guessing it is there to keep the trigger from going to far back and avoid mis aligning it or something.

  • Great video. I enjoy hearing the review from a LEO's point of view.

I went to my local range last week to buy the H&K USP45, which I have been renting for a few months now, and am absolutely in love with. I asked the salesman for one recommendation to consider before I bought the H&K. He recommended the FNP 45. I rented it, fired 100 rounds through it, and bought one on the spot.

This is without a doubt the easiest full size .45 I have ever fired.

  • BTW I am about 6ft. 2 in tall, have a 52 in. chest ,and weigh 275 lb. I have no problems concealing this weapon in an Uncle Mikes Sidekick shoulder holster or the BladeTech holster in the Shooters Pak. I like the Uncle Mikes holster because I have all together 3 x15 rd. mags I carry with it and the 2 x14 rd. mags clipped on my belt with the BladeTech unit. That gives me 74 rds. of .45 ACP ammo on board including the 16 rds. in the pistol. I also carry a 5 shot snubby BUG w 2 speedloaders too.

  • I liked your report a lot. I think you have done a better job explaining the positive qualities of this weapon better than anyone I have seen yet including the so called professionals on tv and the web. I have the same weapon as yours, but in solid black. I am an electronics technician and I work PT/FT as an armed guard protecting government blds. and warehouses. Prior to buying the FNP I carried a Browning Hi Power or the M-9 Beretta. Those are great weapons, but as we know the FNP is better.

  • I bought one of these over a year ago. Loved the features but, had too many complaints. It's a heavy gun for a polymer frame. Second, the slide for obvious reasons is way too heavy. So much that the gun actually wobbles from the recoil. Ended up selling it and buying an XDM. Maybe the other calibers are better from FNH.

  • @nvlawman ... I understand that it is heavy, but if you got it for concealment or you have small hands then you bought the wrong gun. Nobody has ever said its light, it's built to last and it holds 15 rounds of .45 caliber bullets...it can't be small...and it sounds like you got a gun that is too big for you to handle then. Just my opinion.

  • Great video. Thanks. You covered everything one would want to know about the pistol.

  • Really enjoyed your vid I am a LEO as well and recently purchased the FNP 45 and I love it have no problem concealing it but then again I'm not just big 6/7 350 Im huge but love the gun and the video was awsome

  • Thank you very much for the review. I'm really looking into getting one of these for my next firearm. Right now the only pistol I have is a GI1911 and i love it. I figured these looked interesting and would be worth a go. im looking at it as a CC gun as well as range. would it be alright for a CC gun? im about 6'4" and 215 lbs, so im rather large and think i could conceal it quite well.

  • @Jarhead484 ...I don't recommend this as a CC gun, it is a bit larger and wider than the Glock...so concealing it comfortably is very difficult. I am a big guy as well, so the only holster I could find that I liked was the Blackhawk in the waistband size 3 generic type. It has a little flap that helps with the hammer rub against your side, even in cocked n locked position.

  • @Lonmeister27 thanks for your input. i'll have to get my hands on one and see how i like it. im not really sure what else id be interested in getting besides another 1911.

  • what's the difference between the USG model and other models available?

  • @Jarhead484 ...watch the video and you will see.

  • @Jarhead484 - The USG (acronym for U.S. Gov't?) has the manual safety (push up on the decocker, as shown in the clip). Other models have the decocker, but no safety (decocking level only pushes down, not up). LOL, but the frame still has the little indentation for the red dot mark for the USG models.

FHN, on their website, only lists the USG as available in matte black or tan. So Lon has a find there, in matte stainless.

    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Great video and a fine job on the review. What's your thoughts on CC this handgun. I'm looking into this exact gun and want to pair it with a cross breed CC holster. I'm a hefty guy, 6' 250, a nice beer gut and upgraded love-handles better known as love-hams. This handgun doesn't seem too much larger than most other double stack firearms. I carry a S&W 686 .357 w/ 4" brl in a custom tuckable ISW holster and it rides nice, but I'm concerned that my chunk might get torn up with the FNP-45 USG

  • good review

  • omg jizz on this gun XD

  • @SRD297 ...Is that a good thing?

  • @Lonmeister27 ..lol it means the gun looks very nice ! i really want one :(..nice gun and nice video :)

  • Good job. This is a very good pistol. I will be buying one at tax time.

  • is the fnp 45 bigger in overrall size than the glock 21?

  • @PinoyYounGster9deuce ...I would say yes, mainly because of the single action/double action and all the features along with it. It hold more and the barrel is thicker, so yes, its a little bit better...more like a police service weapon though or home defense than everyday carry.

  • @Lonmeister27 thank you, you were really helpful

  • Do you think that this modell will come in .40 S&W? I know that the FNX 40 is in this caliber, but the FNX is to small for me, it has a 4.0 inch barrel, the FNP 45 has a 4.5 inch barrel.

  • nice vid man, this is my favorite handgun

  • Loved your video, very well done. I own the Glock21SF, and just purchased the FNP-45. Like you I love my Glock but i think I'm going to love my FNP-45 more.

  • Very well done video. I purchased my FNP 45 about a year and a half ago. I have probably put approx. 1,000 rounds through it with no problems. I also owned a G21 and found the FNP 45 to be more accurate for me. Just an FYI, Ameriglo has night sights for the FNP 45.

  • @Mrexitusactaprobat

man I'm glad you put in the FYI about Ameriglo. I just bought a FNP .45 and I was wanting night sights for it. Have you used Ameriglo's sights before?

  • @alphasigs07

Yes, I installed tritium night sights for my back and a red fiber optic for the front. The tritium night sights are fine...not as bright as Meprolight or Trijicon...but it works. I do like the contrast with the red fiber optic sight. However, you do need a minimal light source to pick up the red fiber optic sight. You can check out Aeriglo's website to see what sight options you would like for your FNP 45.

  • Great review.

It was refreshing to see one done by someone who can speak articulately and not pepper the review with "Uhh"s and "Ahhh"s like a certain politician when the teleprompter has a malfunction.

I too have shot this weapon and am very impressed with it. So far I've only put about a 100 rounds though it so far, but have not have any misfires or other issues (and these were factory reloads that another gun kept choking on).

  • I second the opinion. I've had mine (Cat #47577) for about a year now, with 500+ rounds through it; and she is a good shooter.

After lots of shopping, ultimately I chose the FNP45 USG for several reasons: #1 was Value, it's high quality at a good price. Second was the "feel" of the weapon (handling, control, mag release, safety), it also operates like a service pistol (m9)

300+ of the rounds I've fired were hand loads (Zero 230 gr FMJ with 8.5 gr AA#5), all without misfire or other incident.

  • Nice vid. I love my .45 USG, almost as much as my .45 tactical. I've had a few ammo issues within the first 300 rounds but I think it was pretty much a magazine/break-in type issue. After 300+ rounds, I've not had one problem even w/ the same brand of ammo I used before. Now sometimes I will have a problem w/ my reloads, but I've found that if I spend some extra time to make sure of my loads, poof, problem solved.

  • Lon can you post a link or email the contact info for FN to receieve the law enforcement discount. What did the discount amount to?

  • @bsidenbend ... I got $125 back from the FNP-45 and youtube wont let me post the link...its on their website under Distinguished Members section.

  • Has anyone had any feeding issues with an FNP-45?

  • @nbenicewicz ...No feeding issues thus far, only a couple hundred rounds through it though. Also, no problems with ejecting casing towards shooter, all casings went up and back to the right. Great gun for the price and the only issue I have had is using the slide lock release on the right side is a little tough, but that isn't my strong side.

  • @Lonmeister27 I've had mine for a couple years and yesterday was the first time that I got to shoot a number of rounds through it. On the second box of 50 rounds I started having feeding issues. When the slide would go forward it wouldn't push the round all the way into the chamber and I'd have to recycle the action after removing the magazine. And it did this maybe 5 to 10 times.

What do you make of it?

  • @nbenicewicz ...What type of ammo are you using? Hopefully not Winchester white box, that stuff is crap! Did it do this with all the mags? Sometimes magazines get worn down and don't seat right causing problems. Did you check the area around the firing pin to see if anything is bent or out of shape? Sometimes forcing a mag in or a bad round in may cause damage causing malfunctions. If all else fails, there is a 5 year total warranty on all their guns, call FNH and see what they can do.

  • @Lonmeister27 The first box of ammo worked flawlessly, it was Independence brand ammo. The second box was just the ammo tray so I have no idea what brand it was. I had all three mags loaded for about 2 years and only periodically would I unload then reload them and I used all three.

  • @nbenicewicz ....It sounds like a magazine problem to me, call FNH and let them know the situation and they will probably just replace the magazines first.

    Phone: 703-288-3500

    Fax: 703-288-4505

    E-Mail: info@fnhusa.com

  • @Lonmeister27 I was at the range again today and this time I shot 200 rounds of strictly Independence ammunition through it and I only had one similar issue out of those 200 rounds.

    What do you think?

  • @nbenicewicz ...I think you should still contact FNH, one failure to load for me would be enough to contact them...multiple ones would make me not want to carry the gun anymore until it was fixed by a professional.

  • @Lonmeister27 Well I'll put few hundred more rounds through it and see what happens. If worst comes to worst I'll try to order two or three more magazines and see if there is a change.

  • @nbenicewicz ...well, if you have the money to do that, then go ahead. FNH should cover the repair or replacement of the mags or gun. I hope that isn't the only weapon you carry for self defense then.

  • @Lonmeister27 I have been carrying it limitedly because I don't have a lot of pistols that I can use because most of them are mil-surp collectibles and the FNP-45 is the only modern handgun I have.

  • @nbenicewicz ... Then I strongly recommend that you get that problem fixed ASAP, call FNH and see if they will replace magazines under warranty. You don't want to carry it when you question the performance of it.

  • lol HK &SIG had a baby and the fnp was born
