I don't know if that necessarily means that Americans are unintelligent, but just plain ignorant. You could be very smart, but not have the best upbringing, i.e. (Old school books, bad teachers, etc.)
I agree about our educational system being in the dumps but what I don't understand about that man you were talking to and other travelers coming from outside of the country: If they think and have experienced that all Americans are stupid why do they continue to come over here? It baffles me. We are not the only English speaking country. Hell, Canada is RIGHT THERE. They can go to Canada or England, New Zealand...so many other countries to go to that supposedly has more intelligent people.
Because you don't have to be all that intelligent to get your hands on the money.
Think about it: This place isn't called "land of opportunity for nothing (even though it's not as open as people think). You don't really have to be all that smart to make it here. So if you ARE smart, imagine the possibilities. Think about a clinic or a hospital: how many of the doctors and specialists are from other countries? A lot right? They come here to make a living.
Autodidacticism FTW. Your statement about teenage years being some of the most crucial is so true in my experience. Up until I was 13 I was a moron and couldn't care less. But after that I started to actually care about learning. As a result the rest of my years at high school were an absolute breeze, and it was much easier to learn things. I also couldn't believe how stupid some of my peers were. They're still stupid.
I know it is probably redundant, but another great video my friend. The teachers would then have to learn the reasons behind what they are asking their students and we all know that the teachers don't want to have to learn stuff too..lol

This is like the pot calling the kettle black!
If I cared about other people caring about me, I would have made my own videos by now. Then again, if I did, it would get out of control.
