Addiction is no disease. Cancer is a disease AIDS is a disease and contrary to popular belief I think that calling it a disease only makes it harder for a user to stop using. It takes responsibility away from the addict. What they should teach is to be responsible for ur actions. I've been in them classes where they brainwash people for months or even years so I know my comment won't give anyone new perspective. I close by saying if it works (calling it a disease) call it whatever u want.
Addiction is not a disease, is more of a desire. I had a problem selling drugs. I got locked up 3 years when I was 18. I got home and it only took me 4 hours to re up. It took me months to get snitched on and was rite back for a couple more years. Then I came home and did it again until I just got tired of it. Now I'm a 30year old multiple felon with no work history and have no one to blaim but myself.
@jtabor57 .... thats selling drugs and using drugs are two seperate things.. its the, when you take a drug, you cant stop untill its gone and passout, i.e. you got a dresser with pills, oxy', heroin. dont matter. you can even sleep untill you do some. then you want to stay up and not waste you buzz, then you do a little more, battle the nodding out. then 3 days later you've already gone out to get more, and you keep on till your dope sick sober and like.. what the hell have i done.
@jtabor57 So sorry to hear that man. I was lucky enough to not get hooked up on drugs (In one way or another), when I was younger I guess. I was way to busy listning to music, playing soccer and so on. Coulden´t you get one of those jobs when you talk to young people about the effects of drugs perhaps?
That drugs will fuck up your life, In one way or another. Sooner or later. Best of luck with everything though =)
@roost24 lol I think you become a victim of your own argument there. Also, what do Liberal and Conservative views have to do with this? Lets just let the science do the talking, that way we know we're on safe ground ;]
@roost24 Im a Republican. Whats the matter? Mommy didnt give you enough hugs and now this tough exterior is your facade to hide the tears of pain? Well I got news about your mom, she fucks...oh yes :)
@doodiethief addiction is not a disease....stop believing what you read and what you heard...Its a choice and always has been...I am so tired of hearing the "experts" tell me I have to admit I am powerless and give myself to a higher power...I will never be powerless cause I was given free will.
@gythiyanki I dont need luck...I have been clean for 9 years...I still drink alcohol on an occasion...The 12 steps that they force feed everyone is not the only way out
@Jaoric Death tax only affects the people who inherit your money when you die. It doesn't affect you personally since you'll be dead. England has it a lot better than most - be thankful for what you have.
@Driveshaft12345 It's a self-inflicted disease, but a disease nonetheless. A disease that not many understand, and even more gawk at as 'not real'. Trust me....it's VERY REAL.
if you're "in power", why is anyone telling you that you have to admit you're powerless and need to turn your life and will over to a higher power. it seems to me that if you're even remotely associated with a 12 step program there's a problem
@lusher1969 It's not as black and white as that. You mentally and physically become dependent on Heroin, and people who arn't addicts have no idea what that is like... You can say they were stupid for doing it in the first place however :]
@HONDOMACLEAN83 Exactly, you have no idea what it's like. That's the thing about it, there is no way to explain it....and once you do it...life is never, ever the same.
True...that 5 people didn't like this tune makes me question their membership in the human race. Truly such creatures are nothing but lobotomized chimps that groove to Lady GaGa while reading gay porn and eating snot balls
Agreed! But then there is the possibility that no chemical assistance was required for the famous 5 to reach their collective state of complete 'mindlessness'.
@BecauseIgothigh143 stupid teen ager telivision? im 17 and i fucking hate mtv and the radio. 90s anything and various kinds of metal are where its at.
You know what I wish? I wish I could turn on the radio...and hear something HALF this good that was just released. God. What a sorely missed, bygone time...I was 11 when I first heard Alice in 1992. Loved 'em ever since. Still pulls at my soul

If you see the most beautiful sunset ever, Take your Ipod with you, go to the beach, on the pier, and just stare at the sunset, with this song playing.
@TheJmanMaster If you ever do something stupid or mess up really bad, put this on ur ipod and close ur eyes...thats the way i feel this song... funny how music affects people differently =)
anything by alice in chains i'l listen to! i press the replay button like 8 times before i have the courage to go find a song as equally as awesome as this... wich is hard to come by!
this is my all time favorite aic song, such an amazing chorus and sound. layne had a voice like no other, im sad that he is gone but at the same time im happy, for in his death he found peace.
That... was... beautiful... in a way that you can't really describe.
Alice in chains will always be my favorite band, and 90's music is pretty much my favorite genre. Staind, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Live, Soundgarden, Collective Soul, audioslave etc etc etc
I respect all the great rock 1-2 punches throughout history: Lennon-McCartney, Jagger-Richards, Page-Plant, Tyler-Perry, etc. But I truly believe there might not have been a more dynamic combo than Layne on the mic and Jerry Cantrell on guitar. Those guys made fucking magic together.
When this album came out I was dealing with the same thing Layne was dealing with, addiction. I related to this album so well. Glad I am passed all of that..
Just another amazing song by them...just like the rest. I wish today's music still had this kind of emotional tangibility. It makes me want to never hear contemporary radio again. You can't even turn the radio on w/o hearing bullsh__ . When did good music die? give me my cd's or give me death!!
como mexicano es agradable la diversidad musical, esto lo considero como las mejores bandas de la historia, el album completo es extraodinario, y por consiguiente dejara huella como los grandes en su genero grunch alternativo o como lo quieras catalogar. SALUDOS!!
What brings me back to this song over and over is the exceptional wah wah. Yeah, it gets a little emphatic at the end and makes you feel kind of stupid for not really noticing it the first time, but I still fvcking luv it.
I got given jar of flies/sap when I was in a down head space by a friend. that was seven years ago I first heard it still gets pulled out and fits my mood like a glove every time.
One of my all time favorite AIC tracks. The reason I got hooked onto their music was the brilliant and beautiful haromonization of Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell's vocals. Simply extraordinary. Such a tragedy with Layne's passing but all of us AIC fans wish them the best as they forge ahead. What a great song!
i wasnt telling anyone how to enjoy music, lol wow, i was just implying that you dont have to be high to enjoy this song, beause he made it seem like thats the only way.
This was my album(tape) back in the mid 90s when i was drivin cross country from Boston to SanDiego.Anytime I hear this,it just reminds me of that trip.RIP Layne
This band was awesome. I so wanted my band to sound like them, then I was only 22 .. now I am 37... fuck... feels like it was yesterday. I was the biggest AIC fan in my country. Nobody understood me. We miss you badly, Layne...
@draedwillows at least theyre making new episodes of beavis and butthead! but if they like the new music videos, im going to question my whole childhood =/.
when i first heard this song let alone the whole album and let alone the entire BAND lolz i was hooked. all i did was listen to alice in chains, then i found out jerry had solo albums and now with the new album and william... it jst amazes me bro
When was this song written? Not before 1991 i reckon.sounds exactly like the riff from Temple of the dog song 'times of trouble' and 'footsteps' by pearl jam.they must have jammed together!
it was all a quick blast recorded in late 1993 took them one week to record and write it. and jerry cantrell of course was good friends with the members of temple of the dog since him and Andrew Wood were very close
@technosis666 yeah aint it odd how most big hits come from a band just fukin around or if they just slap somthing together, and not fuck with it for six months before they release the album? example-bohemian rapsity (queen) was a first take.they felt it was good enough to just leave it be. and look what a hit that was....
alice is just one of those bands that were an enigma. like em or not.
If addiction and disease are the same thing that means I could say I lousy my sister to her addiction to cancer. It doesn't make sense.

What brings me back to this song over and over is the exceptional wah wah. Yeah, it gets a little emphatic at the end and makes you feel kind of stupid for not really noticing it the first time, but I still fvcking luv it.

actually its not a wah wah, it's a talk box like frampton uses, brotha. pretty fucking sweet huh? XD

What a great song!

jar of the flies is easily their best album, it has such depth to it.

you dont have to be high to enjoy music. if anything, it gives the band a bad name when you say things like that.
why2beyou 2 years ago 9
well maybe he wants to be. yeah? you dont have to tell people how to enjoy music.

This band was awesome. I so wanted my band to sound like them, then I was only 22 .. now I am 37... fuck... feels like it was yesterday. I was the biggest AIC fan in my country. Nobody understood me. We miss you badly, Layne...

When was this song written? Not before 1991 i reckon.sounds exactly like the riff from Temple of the dog song 'times of trouble' and 'footsteps' by pearl jam.they must have jammed together!
leondamian 2 years ago
it was all a quick blast recorded in late 1993 took them one week to record and write it. and jerry cantrell of course was good friends with the members of temple of the dog since him and Andrew Wood were very close
technosis666 2 years ago 2
@technosis666 yeah aint it odd how most big hits come from a band just fukin around or if they just slap somthing together, and not fuck with it for six months before they release the album? example-bohemian rapsity (queen) was a first take.they felt it was good enough to just leave it be. and look what a hit that was....
alice is just one of those bands that were an enigma. like em or not.
