I have mixed feelings about omitting the sad verse. Yes, childhood is a time of dreams and pleasantries, but shelter kids from the realities of sadness in life too much and it's bad for them in the long run. When *is* a good time to introduce kids to concepts like mortality, entropy, change (for the worse, not just the better) etc.? I've no instant answers.
