Their greatest album they ever did, their first. I was 4 years old when this came out and my dad played it loudly in the house, I still listen to it regularly. Unfortunately, after "Rock in a hard place" everything they did was bubble gum to me. Sorry to piss off lifelong A-Smith fans but when Tyler started singing about watching his ol lady sleep, that was it for me. The "Pump" album was ok but everything sucked balls after that.
he sounds good for being live. All that stardom got to them and they got lazy with their live shows because they are millionaires. Back then, it was just sound perfect all the time or be out of a job
Yea..@bluntforce those lead guitar fills are not Joe Perry. I am a player and this was one my favorite bands and also one of the first songs I learned how to properly play. the lead beark is Joe Perry..the fills are not. doesn't even sound like him. I have never heard this recording before. Where did you find it Kingcrimson? I would like to have a copy of this for it's rareity. I own almost every Aerosmith recording bought and paid for.
A friend of mine introduced me to Aerosmith when I wan in Junior High School. The only song I heard from them was what was playing on the radio at the time..Walk This Way. I wasn't too fond of Walk This Way, even to this day I'm not nuts about it. But anyway, my friend urged me to buy their first album which Somebody was one of the tracks. I decided to buy the album and was instantly hooked. Still think their first album is the best. It's sad what the band has become today.
These post remind me just how tight Joey and Tom wre in the rhythm section, how important Brad Whitford is, and just how kickass Joe Perry and his guitar playing is! And then Steven brings them all together with his harmonizing, infectous vocals (although his voice isn't as aggressive as it was on the album.)
I was a freshman at Worcester Boy's Trade HS in Mass of 1977 and Aerosmith was rocking everywhere in New England all through my high school days and beyond. They always had their own unique sound. Aerosmith is by far the greatest American rock band to ever set foot on a stage. No band before or since has even come close
@kingcrimson1972 Just think of the emerging(and eventually iconic) imagery of rock in the early to mid 1970's---Aerosmith,Alice Cooper, Kiss,Ted Nugent, New York Dolls, etc--- an amazing time for rock n roll and teenagers who experienced as it happens!!
@JJI6881 Flash, those bands had it. Ya know? Back in the day there wasn't a ton of pics of bands. Saw em live, magazine, back of the record. That's it, so the average fan has to remember the wild show if they are gonna buy anything
@kingcrimson1972 mustv been great back then...if only all the people back then knew what was gonna happen to the music industry today and how their style of showgoing was gonna be outdated....precautions wouldve been made so we can keep on rocking!

@PAULLONDEN I was referring to the music you moron. Why don't you OD on the garbage they call rock music today, or better yet, why not watch that arrogant, hollywood wanna be Steven Tyler on that TV show.

@monmixer I think it's Perry. I think his playing actually declined in the late 70s, and he was playing better earlier in their career.

Joe Perry looks like he hasn't slept in about 5 days in the first picture!

The lead guitar right channel is a post-production overdub played by Steve Hunter.

Wow. Joe's playing actually regressed from this in 77 and 78. He sort of stopped growing as a musician during the drug years.

@Exilemainstreet He'll admit that too

@Frizzvisions30 Awww, I love Joe's playing. I was in a bad mood when I wrote that.
