This is what pilots call "Get-there-itis", a.k.a. self-induced pressure to land regardless of approach. Pilot was with the wind instead of against it, was too fast and too high. He'd used up too much runway before setting down and full reversers weren't enough to cope with remaining distance. The 767 was a write-off, I'd hate to see what an Airbus would've done in this instance.
