Did this have caller I.d? What was the price range, any other colors? I'm writting a book about the 90's and I want my character to have this phone. At first I was writting about the laste 90's(97) and I gave him a nokia 638, but I really want to make my book set in the 94-95 era.

Yea the 638's are classic. This phone didn't have any caller ID. It came in a few other colors: Black face with the same color siding/back and a dark gray face with the same color siding/back. I think they also made it with a black face and dark gray siding/back but am not 100% sure about that last combo. By 1994 these bad boys were only $8-900. Compared to their original price in 1983 of $3,995 that's a steal. What's the book called?

@MaxCadenasso I haven't decided on a final title. This is one of my newest novels, still in the begining stages(only 10 chapters in). But thanks for the help I've been trying to get solid information about cell phones in the early 90's for weeks, this helped a great deal.

Actually, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and some parts of Death Valley, CA and Alaska still have analog towers up. Mexico and other 3rd-world countries still have them too in places. So the system is not totally gone. Just...repressed.

No way!! I thought they were totally gone except in some really crappy countries and islands where they need the longer range. Where did you get this info? I would take a trip to Death Valley just to use it. Just a long day trip away.

I was looking up info on a Motorola M800 bag phone that I got, and a stumbled across some guy's website on how he hooked his up. It was last updated this Feburary, so it is current. I'll see if I can track it down again.

Also, SaskTEL is the company in Canada that still offers analog. Their service also bleeds into the USA as well, but probably only near the bordering states.

@MaxCadenasso Thanks for the link ;-) Today there's no analog cell phone service in Canada and also in the continental / mainland of The United States. The guy updated his site and said that analog cellular phone service was murdered in August of 2011 in Death Valley and Panamint Valley . Good idea to get a satellite phone for safety on the back roads.

Sorry man, not for sale. Of course everything has it's price but I don't even think I could take $300 for this phone. It's pretty much irreplaceable because of the condition of it.
