Rosey Grier is a total bad ass and well suited to sing this song. A member of the fearsome 4 some of the LA Rams, he knits, sews and crochets and tackled Bobby Kennedy's assassin Sirhan Sirhan.
Just had to comment back, Rosey actually does know how to play the guitar. I saw an NFL Films expose on the L.A. Rams and they showed him in a recording studio and he was actually playing the guitar while talking.
I watched this with my parents when it first aired. I was about 3 1/2. After that, whenever I tried to stifle tears, my old man (long passed) would sing this song at me. God bless Rosey Grier.

Free to Be was the start of the left-wing's assault on American values. Hell, Michael Jackson was in it--and look at just how emotionally healthy he turned out to be. Thanks granolas. We are now a nation of pussies incapable of responding to terrorists. Well fucking done!
@thedongenarro actually thats more probably due to the rights succeeding in the repression of rights and feelings. Oh, and we've been doing alright with the terrorist you jerk.
I just love this song and everything about the after school special Free to Be You and Me. It came on at a time that really called for it and already was 20 years old when i first saw it when i was 5 or 6 years old. This song has arond 1:05-1:35 has adults crying so everybody can relate. Sort of like Seseme Street meets School House Rock. If only Seseme Street was still like this today.
He has a wonderful voice. I wish he recorded more! A great football player, too! Thank you so much for posting this. A great song from one of the best albums ever!
I loved this album when I was little but never knew it was also a movie. So neat to see the face behind the song!! And find out he was also a professional football player;-)! My favourite song on the album. Thanks for posting it and please post more from Free To Be, You and Me!!
I love this song when i first heard it about 24 years ago, again 27 years ago and then 6 years ago. Free to be you and me was a groundbreaking event too bad its been on the back shelfs for all these years and nobody gave it the attention it deserves.
My song for "EVERYTHING IS GENERAL RELATIVITY AND EVERYTHING HURTS" (fanfiction ;_;)

@Nightmastercool97 I think the movie got overplayed in the 70s in public elementary schools all over America.
