Those of you calling this man a liar because his controller is blinking are complete tards. The lights flash when it's not connected to the "recognized" PS3 "OS". The SIXAXIS controllers are complete bluetooth devices, and as such can even be configured to be used wirelessly with bluetooth-compliant laptops (as can Wii remotes) as controllers. The lights will blink in such an instance because - again it's not connected to a "real" PS3.
This game is sweet! PS3 Network has alot of awesome games but I hated having to buy them so instead I just went to the Playstation Network Card Duplicator at youtube(dot)com/ watch?v=3vPpAJoSgZ0 followed the instructions and got a duplicate card FOR FREE and the best part is that I didn't have to download anything! Now I play all my games for free.
your control is blinking . what i mean you wireless controler never contected to a port. lol u lier ever one that own a ps3 should noe this one red soild light it only blink when try to contect
Great video. I heard a long time ago about linux on a PS2 long before I ever tried Linux. I haven't ever tried Gentoo but have Ubuntu. Looks cool though. Gives me a reason to get a PS3.
have you try to emulate nintendo 64? there is no video in youtube showing a ps3/linux emulation of n64, so i'm guessing that is not posible cuz de hypervisor on the gpu
Correct, hypervisor stops any serious 3d apps. In the future a version of OpenGL might be written to use the cell processors instead of the GPU, but it'll never be great.
I understand their thinking behind why tehy would block it. But, I still think they should open it more since only a small percent of PS3 owners will have Linux installed. But, I guess we can hope for Custom Firmware to be made eventually.
dang i just installed ydl and it took me forever to figure everything out...i just wanted the snes and nes emulators but now i learn that there isnt an nes emulator for ydl, maybe time to start thinking to switch to gentoo :P
It's fluxbox with Nautilus (from gnome). I use fluxbox because the entire GUI uses between 3 and 8 megabytes of memory - and the PS3 does not have much memory to work with.
This video rules!! demostrate another use of the ps3, by the way how do you use the wireless control?? i can only use it by usb cable under yellow dog, and another question:
Same question at Skatox... how do you enable Bluetooth/wireless use of Sixaxis vs. USB cable needed in Yellow Dog Linux? Outside of emulators, can you navigate Gentoo menus using wireless controller like you can in PS3 XMB or do you absolutely need a keyboard/mouse?
Gentoo is probably slightly faster than yellow dog, just for the underlying philosophy of minimalistic building. I never have used yellow dog so I'm not going to be able to help you to use your controller, but fwiw I believe the newer versions of yellow dog do have bluetooth controller support built in.
snes9x for the snes. It doesn't run "full screen" per say. What you do is maximize the window and turn off window borders - so it's full screen but not running in snes9x full screen mode if you follow.
will yellow dog linux be able to connect with the six axis and play the roms too? and will it be able to access files from another cpu like u did in ur video?
Great video. But uhm, out of Gentoo and YDL, which is the better choice for playing NES and SNES emulators on? That's all i'm really interested in regarding PS3 Linux :P.
Question: Are all the media files on your PS3 hard-drive, or are you accessing them wirelessly from another CPU. I am asking, bc I am wondering if I can play my Mame games without copying them to my PS3.
wow amazing can u post some more vids like tht? fuk im stuck with my 360 and it is the gayest console ever. imma try to trade in for a ps3. keep up the good work
Great vid. Is there a thread around the net to show everything you done? I really love to run emu's and such. I'm using the yellow dog but it lags like hell.

Im using YDL6 on ps3 the Dualshock3 works but must be wired. I was wondering what libraries did you use to enable the bluetooth functionality.

I've heard of people having trouble getting the wireless working. How hard was it to get working on gentoo?

Which version of Gentoo did you install and which kernel were you running?
Ryethe 4 years ago
"version of gentoo" doesn't mean much, I emerge everything fresh using portage right after I start.
The kernel was self-built using 2.6.22 sources.

@Skatox: I haven't been able to get the controllers to work in YellowDogLinux 5.0.2. I think it has something to do with the kernel but I'm not sure.
if you use 5.0.1 it should work tho. There are instructions on the net , try googleing.

If you've never used Linux before, Gentoo will probably be too much for you. Yellowdog or another distribution will probably be better for you.
iusmeagel 4 years ago
They do when you use linux, they are for pairing on the ps3 so theres no wonder they dont lock on. Unless maybe someone makes a fix for that.
