Don't leave your rational thinking apparatus behind and fall for this shameless indoctrination. Don't let mob hysteria and "charismatic" preaching rob you of your common sense. Don't be manipulated, don't be conned and don't allow this mind virus to cripple your critical thinking. You have doubts for good reason. Christianity makes no sense, it never has and never will.
I have been doing the Alpha course for years and never come across mob hysteria etc.
It is the only course I know of that talks about Jesus, but allows guests to freely express their opinions -- and we never try to correct anyone etc.
If Jesus makes no sense, then why worry? Well all be dead and gone soon and things of human origin dont stand the test of time (maybe in a few thousand years :-)
I can't comment on your own experiences but I have read of considerable testimony by others where things get quite intense and frenzied in the later sessions. Speaking in tongues, spastic gyrations, prayer reaching a feverish pitch where the noises get quite bizarre. This is what I mean by "mob hysteria".
Group pressure doesn't work on me. There are far better answers to life's questions and a great many more reasons to reject Christianity than to embrace it.
Those are strong words if you have never been on a course and are going by having read others testimonies.
Why has the Alpha course become so successful in 160+ countries/12+ million attendees? It is so simple: free meal/snacks, talk about Jesus, group discussion (guests can say anything, even bash Christians :-) and team members listen/encourage questions from guests. There is NO group pressure (but team is under pressure - mostly I have been the lone team member).
All fence sitters be warned re: the Alpha course:
