In my country our martial art teaches us to keep fighters from taking you to the ground or slamming or throwing you if they do you reverse. You use their own weight against them. Im talking about South Asian martial arts BTW.

modern pankration has strict, austere rules due to the attempts that are made for it to be recognized as an olympic sport. MMA is actually closer to the ancient form of pankration, which, although banned by the christians, still lives through a plethora of ancient texts and depictions on pottery

This vid is a waste of time. The title suggests brutal ancient Greek wrestling but in essense it shows mostly lay persons whose ego dominates the vid; what combat wrestling there is, it is always interrupted by the ref when action between wrestlers shows some promise of real action. Ancient wrestling was never interrupted! If you want to comment on greek wrestling per se use a title that is appropriate so we don't waste our time hoping to see a resemblance of brutal Ancient Greek wrestling.

I can read and have some knowledge of ancient Greek pankration and wrestling. Wrestlers were allowed almost all attempts to defeat a rival except such as gouging of eyes; wrestlers fought, at times, to the death as long as they followed the rules of the time.

@sompret, Your words are true! Modern pankration - a sport. Why violence? The winner is the skill, stamina and will to win. Pankration realistic sport, it is difficult to condemn or put on extra points, as in sports boxing or wrestling. Victory is awarded objectively.

@sompret : I not only crave to witness the original ancient greek pankration as they fist fight and wrestle nude to total exhaustion but I also crave to wrestle a man as did the ancient greeks so as to feel the ecstasy of man2man combat the way men should wrestle chest to chest, muscle against muscle until one of us finally defeats his opponet in a prolonged, test of strength & endurance, between 2 well matched men,  & one of us feels the glory of victory.
