Wow! I can't believe someone still had this floating around! This is one of my earliest and best memories of Sesame Street. It was such an age of innocence. Thanks for posting!
1 day in 77 I had just finished swimming lessons, & I was in the changeroom washing myself, & there was my bro beside me (he was fully clothed), singing this song at me. That SO embarrassed me!
That wasn't the reason! It was that Sesame Street didn't get the rights to the background music that was being played. It may have been slightly because of the brief nudity also. The "French kiss" comment was just silly and stupid!
ya see 'garret' back in the 70's when i was a child this was perfectly acceptable stuff - i grew up watching it.... now a days it would never pass censors - it would be called child porn probably - so sad
So true, but unfortunately there are perverts who would get off on this as kiddie porn. I watched some of the old sesame street footage in sydication growing up and I saw it as rather innocent. We're living in a different world, where you have to keep your kids locked in the house due to fear of kidnapping. I grew up in a time where, as a kid, would wander around my own apartment building complex or other buildings visiting random strangers if their doors were open.
Sometimes I was invited to watch television or they had kids and I would hang around and just played with them. Gave my mother a scare everytime, because she mostly feared that some day I would have ended up at the bottom of our apartment swimming pool. Guess I wasn't that stupid. Those days are definitely over, because you never know what sick things people are wanting to do with your kids.
@cstar88 The world hasn't changed, only our perception of it. Blame the media, they have made you terrified of things that have always been since the dawn of civilization.
This "Sesame Street" skit has been deleted from the Old School DVD because of one shot of this five-year-old girl's chest. The animals that live in water all the time might pick up bacteria. They have to have an amoeba attached to them to eat the bacteria. Otherwise, they could sick from the bacteria on them.
Well, regardless of the reason it's still a classic and I had no idea it dated back to the first episode! Plus, the single episode of Sesame Street that I have from 1987 (Episode #2382 to be precise) has this segment along with several older ones including Baker #4.
That episode from 1987 with this segment may be the one that I recorded too. I got this version from the first episode video tape I got from ebay about 7 years ago.
I love this episode, and have the old LP of the Swingle Singers singing this song. It was in my mind a lot, cheering me up, as a child, a teen and an adult. I wish you could hear the music with this classic clip!
It could also be that the segment shows a child taking a bath...which is verboten these days, because it could be interpreted by some as child pornography.
I have this piece on a CD called "Bach For Bachelor Pads", which is made up of mostly Swingle Singers stuff. Can't find it at the moment, but whatever copyright holders are acknowledged on the casing, they're probably the ones who stood in the way of leaving this film on the DVD.
You can still buy that CD on Amazon. In any case, I don't have the gear to rip CDs, especially not ones that are protected (?).
Appreciate the offer, though. I'd offer you something else, but I don't think you'd be interested in very much I have that you don't already also have. (I have 33 full episodes from '69 to '92. Your primary interest seems to be early to late 70s film segments. I have a few that haven' turned up on YouTube yet, but that doesn't mean you don't have 'em...)
One example: Does this sound familiar---a dialogue-less film of two teenage boys helping a street drummer make a drum (or whatever that particular kind of drum is called) out of an old metal trashcan. It appears in #2243 from 1986. That's one I haven't seen on here.
Strange but since when does Bach pieces become copyrighted. Maybe the Swingle Singers had something to do with it. Oh, well! I do have version of this episode taped from the good ol' days of Noggin, :D.

I have been looking for this clip. I remember watching it in the 70's when I was a kid.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this clip at all. Thank You for posting this clip mstatz.

I can only guess they reason why this clip was pulled was because it showed the kid's butt at the end.

Yes, it's difficult to shower with your clothes on. I find it's quite acceptable to be naked in the shower.
TheBlueFlamingo 3 years ago 2
Ah, but if you shower with your clothes on you're saving water, getting two things clean instead of just one.
PandaMishima 2 years ago 2
Oh, but some "bits" are hard to clean with your clothes on.
TheBlueFlamingo 2 years ago 2
yeah, and back then, they didn't have they same water conservation concerns as we do today.

It was still showing up that late? Wow. I can't imagine it lived much longer beyond that. For all you know, that episode was its swansong.
I don't think I ever saw it as a kid around then--must have just missed it.

Great music by the Swingle Singers (Bach's Gavotte in E Major). I wished they could have kept this on the DVD.
TerryT1976 4 years ago
Unfortunately, it's because of the music that this piece is not included on the Old School DVD set, or so they say.
