  • This was fun to watch. They had a fun time doing this segment. Love Dean Martin's energy!

    Thanks for posting.

  • If there could be one thing said about Dean, it's that he loved to entertain people, more than just about anything else, & he wasn't afraid to act "the clown". That's why so many of the stars that appeared in his show had such a great time & fond memories of Dean.

  • Dino was a very good entertainer! Sinatra was in another league as an actor and singer! Wish they were both still with us!!

True talent and entertainment today means, amplified vocals, gaudy costumes, and special effects. Too bad. The Rat Pack and others like them are sorely missed. Thanks for posting.

  • @thankspallie And if you want 8m44s check this video with the same two great man. Search on Youtube for "Dean martin Frank Sinatra lightning up the stage". Enjoy it.

  • @PaulWhitehouse That was awesome...They just got more adorable with age...Lovely reminder! Thanks!

  • Those movements can't be comfortable in those tuxedos... Ouch

  • the four people who did not like this vid are classless

  • I have just recently graduated high school, placing me at the ripe old age of 18... But may I just say that I would give my right arm to have only an ounce of the charm, charisma, talent, humor, influence, and passion that both of these men hold. Seeing Frankie and Dino together just makes me truly understand why they are two of my idols and two of the foremost entertainers of all time...

It's a real shame that this kind of talent is so rare these days.

  • @PapaMurph13 Yes we need more that this kind of talent on these days!!!!! that's what i like i love Mauricio Herrera he can become, has the essence that is needed.

  • Love it! Why don't people have acts like this in these days? It's not like it's no fun doing because I think these guys were having the times of their lives! I was born in the wrong decade too I guess..

  • @loesknopper come to Paphos Cyprus pallie, see Martin Rhodes as Frank Sinatra and Andrea Morrelli as Dean Martin doing countless Frank and Dean Shows of this calibre out here. We love what we do and we are keeping their memory alive.

  • @bumpy339 Hi I am a big Sinatra Fan in Limassol when are you on in Pafos, Im there every week, if you are keeping it alive I will be there.

  • Anyone with an elementary knowledge of show business knows that Frank was equally as great a performer as he was a singer. Reckon Garrison and Sinatra had a feud that we don't know about?

  • @vidnut67 He didn't say he was a bad performer by any means, he was one of the best, but that Dean had him beat in that accolade(by a small figure). I would have to agree with Garrison on Dean being a better performer, Just watch the both of them, you can see Frank mimicking Dean a lot, following his lead in this video. but both great entertainers/performers/singers and wish we could get both of them back. We need some genuine entertainers these day.....

  • @bafhouse03 I agree that Sinatra's mimicking Dean, but IMO not because Dean's necessarily better, but because it's Dean show and he's the host here. I understand that in the 1950s Sinatra subbed for Perry Como and did the entire program as Como had planned to do it - out of deference to Como. For all of Sinatra's rep as a tough guy, he treated his fellow performance with respect.

  • I meant "performers", not "performance."

  • @bafhouse03

Dean was a better comedian than Frank . But Frank, by himself, was a far more compelling performer. His "Man and his Music" specials have some beautiful moments of dramatic intensity and his swing numbers were filled with rambunctious joy. Plus, Frank was a joy in his Gene Kelly movies and a great dramatic actor when he put his mind to it. Dean also impressed in Rio Bravo and Some Came Running. Both had infinite potential but Frank took his work more seriously and it showed.

  • @ShannonSam1 Perfomer? Lol, just lol. Dean was great on TV, movies. Dean Martin Show last for almost 10 years. See what Orson Welles says about the new style that Dean bring to that kind of show. Performer it´s not just acting it´s naturality. Oh, and just one more thing, don´t forget Sammy Davis Jr. At the end they were great. Better this, better that, the important it´s that they make moments that we can watch and have good moments.

  • @PaulWhitehouse

So, a two-time Oscar nominee for actiing is not a 'performer'? '... I am not saying that Dean wasn't a great performer (especially in Tv comedy--which was a medium that Frank never mastered) But to say that Frank wasn't a great performer is to shortchange a massive and diverse career-- the man acted his songs out better than no other--If that's not the definition of a performer than what is. Dean was a comedic genius, but as a singer didn't have Frank's depth.

  • @ShannonSam1 I´m sorry but I think with the brain not with the choice of others. James Stewart only won one oscar and was great of romance, western, thriller movies. John Wayne was good at Rio Bravo and not even one nomination received for the movie, Gary Cooper won one in a movie (High Noon)that was similar of Rio Bravo. Performer it´s naturality, it´s not being connected with the mob. Frank it´s a product of the media. Sammy Davis Jr. puts Frank Sinatra on a corner but the media...

  • @ShannonSam1 People who guide his taste, his opinion for oscars nomination I think it should use the brain. And from a frontal man (Don Rickles), not the Academy people: Dean Martin was the unique star who attained success in all of the entertainment media—movies, TV, recordings, concerts, and radio. His daughter Deana gives us something else that is also unique in this revealing book about growing up as the daughter of a true legend. Here’s to you Dean. I’ve got the booze, you get the ice.”

  • @PaulWhitehouse I discovered sinatra on my own when I saw him in the movie The Joker is Wild (before reading about his Oscar nominated films or seeing them) and have since seen and heard most of his work. If you base your dislike of Sinatra on mafia rumors, than you are the one not using your brain. Besides, both Dean and Sammy were massive fans of Frank's singing and vocal phrasing. I think you need to educate yourself about Sinatra.

  • @ShannonSam1 I think you need to bone up on your sinatra information. He was only nominated for 2 oscars - he only one 1, as a supporting actor. Any other "movie" awards were Golden globes - which are nothing like the Oscars.

  • @PaulWhitehouse

some of your wording is confusing. I am going to assume you are not a native english speaker. I just prefer Sinatra as a singer and actor. I like Dean as an actor and as comedian but I think he didn't bring the kind of emotion Frank brought to singing. Sinatra's "Songs for Only the Lonely" is a devastating and beautiful album. Dean's work never moved me to tears but Frank has...and that has nothing to do with the mafia.

  • @ShannonSam1 OMG - he moved you to tears? He sounds so mechanical to me - so emotionless. I'd take Martin and Davis over him, anyday. In fact, I don't own one sinatra piece of music, of any kind.

    Sinatra does nothing. . . .

  • @PaulWhitehouse

I see from your profile page that you are from Portugal...I wonder if you are a fan at all of the Brazilian music Bossa Nova...Frank did a lovely album with Antonio carlos Jobim. I also see that you are a big fan of dean martin ...That's very admirable, but I think it is unfair of you to tell me that I am letting other people or the mafia influence my opinions about Frank Sinatra's talent.

  • @ShannonSam1 Rumours? In Portugal I heard rumours but some interests are superior than the justice values. Sinatra was called for a court audience because of his connections with the Mafia? On youtube you can check that audience. And you can add that I like Sammy Davis Jr. Read this: "...was the childhood idol of director Tim Burton, who wanted to cast him as the title character in Os fantasmas Divertem-se (1988), but Warner Bros. ultimately refused. Sinatra a normal actor, singer not great.

  • @PaulWhitehouse The idol was called Sammy Davis Jr. And about that information that you have about Sammy liked Frank voice, it seems that it´s not correct. Removing Sammy to put Steve McQueen on a movie (Neve So Few) just because Sammy told was a better singer than Sinatra don´t show that Sammy was so in love for Sinatra voice. It´s good to the world, that are preferences who aren´t equal. All the good for you and it´s good to know that you like Sinatra for his work, not from others influence.

  • @PaulWhitehouse

sammy only said that once about Frank's singing. In his earlier days, he tried to sing like Frank until Frank convinced him otherwise... He liked Frank's phrasing. All singers have strengths and weaknesses. Sammy is technically a good singer, but in my opinion, he over-sings. There is more to singing than vocal strength and notes. Good singers communicate their feelings in an intimate way..

  • @PaulWhitehouse

the rumors I was referring to were the Tommy Dorsey rumors (probably not true) and From Here to Eternity rumors (definitely not true)..Many people truely think Sinatra was talented . Just because you are not one of them does not mean he didn't have a real fanbase. The mafia can not get people to buy records and movie tickets, or to give out grammy's and academy awards. Tim Burton's opinion is not any more valuable than all of Frank's fans. Its all subjective.

  • @ShannonSam1 Ok, I understand. You´re a fanatic, if Sinatra was alive you kiss his feet even if they were in mud. Tim Burton knows more of a good actor than a simple, ordinary fan. Who just like something because the majority likes. Dean Martin while singing he singed with his body, his expressions. Sinatra just stood on the stage and open his mouth. Greg Garrison say something on interest, when the performance started people would look to Dean and not Sinatra. He was a pure entertainer.

  • @PaulWhitehouse

So all of frank's fan are 'fanatics'... Please. I am sorry you hate sinatra so much that you have to hate his fans as well. I like his singing and acting--pure and simple. I don't care about his personal life...or who he chose to hang out with. That being said, the mafia rumors are at least a little debatable and it is not just 'fanatics' who think so.

  • @ShannonSam1 Hate? Lolol. I like people who are happy. You are happy listening Sinatra, good. Happyness is good. I just have to listen Sinatra because Dean it´s here with him. Tony Bennett that´s a voice. I was happy that remember of him to make a reality show. That´s a singer, but if he can´t make you cry it´s no good. Lolol. Best regards. Bye bye.

  • It´s confused to a brain that seem it´s a member of a brasilian church IURD. Sinatra it´s my god. Lol. Quotes, how did you find, so cleaver. Quotes to see that are other opinions you brain bug. Oh why this packages with eyes appear. Life it´s so funny. Well at leats you assumed he had connections. The quotes make their job, horse eyes.

  • @PaulWhitehouse

There are lies in biographies..For example, in Jerry Lewis' book "DEan and Me", he stated that he and Frank had a nice talk at Dino's funeral..Guess what...Frank was never at Dino's funeral (according to Deanna Martin and most other books)...People lie sometimes..especially if it tells a good story....Mob stories or sentimental stories are fun; the reality is often less fun. What sells a book better--a complicated look at Frank Sinatra or a hardcore mobster version of Frank.

  • @ShannonSam1 I read the book "Dean and ME" by Jerry Lewis, and I don't remember him mentioning talking to Sinatra at Dean's funeral. Honestly, Jerry Lewis, if I remember correctly, wasn't at services for him. . . he was out of town appearing in "Damn Yankees."

He did attend services for Dean's son, but didn't talk to Dean there, until after the servides and they talked on the phone.

  • @PaulWhitehouse

Sinatra just stood on the stage and opened his mouth?...Not true...During the Man and the music specials and his 50's tv shows, he moved around quite a bit..Dean wasn't exactly doing dance moves when he sang either. But both had expressive faces and movements...You are being extremely biased to say that.

  • @ShannonSam1

One last thing (I don't want to come off like a 'fanatic'), but Frank is not at his best in the Rat Pack stuff..he never was. the Rat Pack allowed Dean and Sammy to shine...Frank shined more on his own. the performances he gave with the Rat Pack are not his best--not even close. He had fun and coasted.
