  • Man that took forever...then again you weren't in a boat where you can just move in and net them.

  • Enjoyable vid! We have similar sized rainbows in Denmark. But they are almost never fish that has been in the habitat for long, as we have many fish farms which provide most of our fish. In order to fish for wild fish we often have to turn to pike, perch and the such. So it is lovely to see how the rainbows can become true masters of their habitat, and put up a good fight as well.

  • It seems that rod/reel combination may have been a little light to fight a fish like that.

  • @TheDmburnham No I dont think so mate, my 5w sage has dealt to some big fish including river mouth kahawai and as you can see in the video I'm hardly playing them lightly either...just fit and healthy wild rainbow trout, that choose to slug it out down deep instead of going into over drive on long surging runs, which one would normally expect!!

  • Whats the length of the leader you are using?

  • Shit that looks cold!

  • Thanks very much for sharing your experience Kevin. Great video footage and a productive mornings fishing. I'm no stranger to Lake Selfe (the less said the better).

  • Cheers mate, yeah it's just the sink tip section on the flyline.

  • Beautiful fish kev, I was curious what the long black leader you have on is...is that just a sink tip? You never really show the cast so I wasn't sure...

  • Hi mate, I used a fly called a Hamills killer..it represents a dragonfly nymph or small baitfish..a popular pattern over here in NZ!!

  • NIIICE man! Nice! i live in the U.S. but i awlays wanted to go to N.Z. sooooooooo bad! and what kind of fly did you use? if you said in the vid, sorry i mustave missed it!

  • Hi Andy, it's my Panasonic handycam..I have rigged it up to my cap, looks weird but works a treat!!

  • Nice one Kev, as you say: match your expectations to the water you're fishing! Some of those fish would be considered excellent on the little stream I fish here in the north of Pomgolia.

I'm interested to know what head-cam you're using, the picture is a lot sharper than my rig.

    cheers,

    Andy
