  • MY FIRST TOUCH WITH TULL. I WAS 15. LOVE THAT SONG!!!!

  • long live the Fuzzface pedal.

  • One of the heaviest tunes ever . Love the basic pile-driving riff .Sounds like something sneaking up on ya at first, then it slams the shit out of ya! That slide down the neck by Martin Barre adds to the eerieness and power of the whole tune. His lead is soulful and bluesy. Great example of dynamics during Anderson's flute solo especially when it comes back in heavy at 2:47. Clive Bunker smoked on the drum track. Listen to his powerful fill at 3:41. Listen to Glenn Cornick's finale on bass!

  • a blues-rock masterpiece - killer drumming, wild & fierce guitar, authentically hurt/angry lyrics - and you can waltz to it!

  • Its funny that this ONE hard bluesy song is better than anything on This Was. It was a new album yesterday, but it's an old one now.

  • Killer! Saw Tull at the Goose Lake festival in Michigan, early 70's; just like Woodstock, only without the rain and mud. Half a million stoners brought Tull back for 13 ENCORES!

  • When a record opens up with this kind of tracks, you know it's gonna be wicked!

  • I don't think anything they ever did compares with Stand Up. Especially Aqualung, which is agree with you on. Saw them 5 times in the 60's and once at Tanglewood, Mass with the Who and Its a Beautiful Day in July 70 or 71.

  • Arguably the best rock album of all time. There are no weaknesses - if you like the sound.

  • @episcospanky The Band has at least 3 better albums-but this one is great

  • @SHAMROCK2982 I dunno, Benefit, TAAB, Stand up, and Agualung are all arguably on par with each other. TBH i think Agualung is a tad overrated when it comes to tull's albums, its great but I wouldnt call it their best work.

  • @SHAMROCK2982 aqualung, sorry.

  • Jethro Tull was originally a blues group

  • okay so i heard this on Supernatural (big fan) but who cares at least I Found it!! and glad that i did. Love this song.

  • a blues-rock valse macabre - whatta concept, and what a wickedly good song

  • One of my all time favs from mr Anderson!!

  • I agree...This one and "Nothing Is Easy" are my two early Tull favorites!! /:o)

  • DRWU you are right on about Iommi, Martin sounds like Clapton on steroids on this one. TULLGUY , I agree and the Bass is subtle but killer.

  • Supernatural lol

  • Have the vinyl with the fold up ... [/brag]

  • very good drums here.

  • Spent many a nights staring into a fire with this bad ass groove playing. A forever timeless piece.

  • @Crimzoid21

Tripping on Shrooms in King City brother back in the day.

  • Salut je m'appelle Jethro Tull et j'ai vendu 60 millions d'albums.

  • That's Martun Barre on guitar....Iommi only played at the Stones Circus show but never recorded with them.

  • Nice song and as far as I have heard Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) are playing the lead guitar on this track.

  • very creamy

  • 1 dislike... kill that man

  • what a gorgeous song.

  • for Diana... who will never see this, because she gets her music from pop radio.

  • This tune epitomizes what Jethro Tull was all about. Complex but dead-to-rights blues-based Rock. Serious music here.

  • @mickeymousebiker1 You flat get it...smartypants. You are a true fan and expert.

  • @telsport I try :-)

  • If I miss something from the first album it must be the drums of Clive Bunker.

  • Sad to say I have worn out this album. need a new copy.

  • @Kulumuli

Try going to HMV and see if they have the CD.

  • that very first album is my favorite

  • reminds me of Cream kind of

  • One person had a finger spaz while trying to press the like button.

  • To think that people seen the man in the funny tights running around on stage only to think he was some kind of freak til the people told them to sit down and listen did they realize he had a lot to say that actually had meaning. Who are the freaks now? Lol. Thanx Ian for putting it in their face, with your wit,and charm, thru all the years...

  • Forgot Tull even did this song 'til I just watched a Joe Bonamassa video. Classic tune.

  • Tull at their best

  • I found the album "Stand Up" in 1970 during a holiday. Still today I cannot say which song from this album is the best. Ian Anderson is, simply, a genius.

  • Une des meilleures chansons de Jethro Tull Stand Up est probablement un de leur meilleures albums.

  • Anyone else think the guitar sounds suspiciously like Tony Iommi?

He was reportedly in this band for like, 5 minutes.

  • 0 dislikes, bad ass

  • 0 people fail at music

  • Greetings from Zionist occupied Washington DC

  • Barre is one of the most underrated guitar gods of all time!

  • THIS IS ONE BADASS SONG!!!! Stand Up is one of their BEST albums! TULL LIVES FOREVER!

  • Saw these guys at their first Boston show in Feb'69----great then as now! Check out the Joe Bonamassa cover---equally great!

  • 3/4?

  • Amazing riff !... Hypnotic like sunshine of your love by Cream.

  • when i heard it playing softly in the background in the impala on supernatural i thought it was Hendrix, i had to google " music of supernatural " to find out it was Tull

  • It's so awesome! Thumbs up for those who really heard this song on Supernatural "Season 6 - Ep. 12" , It's like I can feel Dean talkin , as Jethro Tull is bumming in the backround in his 1967 Chevy Impala!! :D

  • 0 dislikes....for a good damn reason!

  • A nice narrative song incorporated in a heavy blues riff. Tull- tale art.

  • This really smacks your BooBoo !

  • Truly one of the first heavy/eerie riffs in guitar rock. Sounds like somebody's creepin up on ya. I love the way guitarist Barre slides down midway thru the riff then hits that eerie sounding note at the end of it. I love the way the riff starts softly with bass and drums, then slams in your face like an incessant pile-driver. Clive Bunker absolutely kills on the drum kit. His fill at 3:44 is awesome.

  • I submit it doesn't get an y better this , a cold blooded , kick ass song .... thanks dude for upload .

  • Heard it on Supernatural!!

  • @Lacinda1993

they just know what good music is, don't they? :)

  • @Lacinda1993 same here love that show and this song!

  • @Lacinda1993 supernatural has one of the best playlists out of any show

  • Beautiful melody, complex, rhythmic. Clive Bunker was the drummer for this album and made it all come together. Mt favorite band of all time.

  • Rock and Roll. nothing like it. never will be again. Unless Hendrix comes back from the dead.

  • @OurLordLennon Back then, Rock N Roll was an experiment. Now its gay.

  • It was a new day yesterday but it's an old day now - TULL FOREVER!!!!!!!!! Rockin' greetings from Germany!!!!!!!!

  • Great track. It's been covered a few times since, most recently by Joe Bonamassa and, most impressively by Chantel McGregor. If you've not seen her before she's well worth checking out - very rare to hear/see a guitarist of that age (23?) play so well and with so much feeling.

  • a 3/4 time blues-rock valse macabre - never done before or since - love it

  • De spilte i Oslo, Njårdhallen på ettervinteren 71, om jeg husker rett. Vi var der!!Legendarisk! Dag

  • I love this song......their best !

  • long time ago i had this on vinyl. one of the first lps i ever bought.. been meaning to get this from itunes forever.. well ive favorited the youtube version.. thats a start :D

  • @zwartepiet412 Hello,, Stand Up is now available on remixed double CD with DVD,, chech out your music PuShER

  • Good 'n' heavy, hard hitting Tull at their best, freaking love this song.....& album.....& band, period.........

  • Thank you for posting this

  • My favorite album by Tull, for the raw lead guitar sound anyway... I'm reading a book on Tull right now, & to get the swirling lead guitar sound on this track, they had initially tried putting the lead guitar through a Leslie speaker but weren't satisfied with the sound so they experimented. Finally, the engineer took an expensive Neuman 67 microphone & swung it in big circles by the end of the cord while recording to achieve the swirling sound you hear!

  • i was at a club last night after we played, and the band started into this tune. they didnt think anyone would know it...i was like "yeah, Tull" and they semi-freaked...lol

  • One of my most favorites. Continue. Please.

  • good song here. thanks for the upload
