  • Our family are garlic lovers and this is just what we needed to know. Now we can grow our own. The whole video was great, thanks so much!

  • Garlic and onions stink. Yes, same category. Thanks for the video upload. I didn't know it was so easy to grow garlic.

  • you didn't' talk at all about cutting back the scapes.. I was told that you have to cut them back to produce the bulb.

  • cheers big ears! and yes ,have a mint....

  • i couldnt kill mine and coming from me thats huge!

  • it takes a whole year to grow garlic? they stay in the ground while it snows?

  • why use a knife to get them apart use your hand then you dont have to worry about cutting them

  • @love0fesha0love secret code? is she warning us not to do this? is she being forced to do this?

  • jerrydff7, up north best time to plant is in October, in the south you may be able to plant in the spring. DO NOT allow your garlic make a flower, pull the scape out before it blossoms, (the scape is that round leaf that comes out of the center of the plant and has a bud at the end of it) if you let the scape grow, it will indeed flower but it pulls the energy from the bulb and you get smaller bulbs, if any at all.

  • thanks a ton sweet heart!!

  • I found some garlic that has sprouted...and I wanna plant them...my question is....how do I plant them with the sprout pointing downward or upward ?

  • @jsantis91 Sprout pointing upwards.

  • stupid question! Do you have to water it just like you would a plant?

  • How does it take for each pod to yield? Given the cost in time, could it be easier / better to buy it cheaply from the supermarket?

  • dont use a knife, crush the clove with your hand, and dont plnt them so close together.

  • I love Yolanda's teaching. She is articulate and easy to understand. It's a joy to listen and learn from her. Thank you, Yolanda!

  • turn off the CC [closed caption] feature.

  • would be nice if I could actually see the video instead of just reading the video...

  • Yolanda, you rock! I had a bulb of garlic that fell behind the counter, and it sprouted. Now I have it in wet tissue paper and it is rooting, so I am going to plant it... and some ginger too!

  • Good video and a stupidly funny comment thread..... Outstanding !

  • Yea, I love this video. I'm going outside today to plant my garlic that has already sprouted just to see what happens!

  • Thank you for posting this. Garlic is getting so expensive to buy at the shops. This is a great alternative :-)

  • I am going to try this! And to think I threw our bulbs that were growing in the fridge! Thanks!

  • hi, i liked ur video. i have a question for u pls answer me then, did u use compost in the soil or what?

  • its an easy way.. but not the best way.

  • I followed all the instructions about planting garlic and after the winter I ended up with plants that looked like thick green onions with no indiividual cloves. Totally

    depressing.

  • how often do you have to water the garlic?

  • use the seeds. there much better

  • coool,i looove garlic ;)

  • wow i didnt know you could grown the ones that sprout in fridge/// loll id always throw them away!!! wow! thanks for tellin me!! :D

  • my cat just snapped off the young leaves of a garlic clove in my garden. they were about 4 inches high. will it die?

  • @checkfoldcallraise No.....news ones will probably grow. But keep your cat well away from your garlic plants. Use some kind of surface repellant if you have to. Cats are a nuisance to young plants. Good luck.

  • cheers dude...

  • "You can grow them and not even know that you did"??????????

  • can I plant the clove upside down?

  • i hate it how american say the word 'herb' its a H.E.R.B!! haha

  • There's also a "p" in front of pterodactyl, but you don't say that.

  • thats because its silent! hahaha

  • I hate it how british people say the letter 'h'. There is no emphasis on the heh sound, it's just aych not haych.

  • @stuffradio SOME British people - it annoys some of us as well!

  • can i plant the garlic from the supermarket

  • no most super market garlics are not true to their form so you need original ones.

  • how long does garlic take to grow?

  • takes about 6months to grow.

  • you can alos eat the leaves of garlic. i personally find its taste very similar to chives and leek.

  • why do you want to plant in the fall? It sprouts pretty fast.

  • what do you mean by fall? or what month is this.

  • fall would usually start in late September. Its one of the seasons in temperate climates that precedes winter. These instructions may not work that well if you have different seasons like in India or other Monsoon countries.

  • @v632 The 'fall' is Autumn in the free world :-) late September/October

Why they use the word 'fall' is beyond me. To describe falling leaves as a season is pretty lame to say the least. It is AUTUMN :-) Maybe they have trouble spelling it, along with everything else.

  • Since when is garlic considered an herb?

  • it bought a book all about herbs some time ago and it had plants which i never knew were even herbs, it accepted the term very broadly, it included: sandlewood, tomato, banana. im not actually sure herb has a proper definition.

  • Wow. garlic is expensive in the stores. Like $3.49. Worth it to grow yourself, honestly.

  • i was digging in my front yard and i found a plant i think its garlic it has cloves and the stem on top is growing....is it garlic

  • Pick some of the leaves, if they smell like garlic, it probably is.

  • Just eat it and find out!

  • "Allium" is the genus. "Liliaceae" is the family. The common name for the family is the "Lily" family. Family is a higher taxonomic ranking than genus. Kingdom----->Division------>Class------>Order------->Family------->Genus------->Species

There's your botany lesson. You're welcome.

  • thanks!

  • yeah they are easy to grow. I would have like a TON of garlic, but my chickens eated them....

  • don't you mean in the spring when you dig them up????not the fall...you plant in the fall

  • Thank you that made it very simple for me to understand. Last year I put up a large greenhouse for vegetables and I had a great year having fresh vegetables. I always wanted to know if I could grow garlic and your the first person to show me how simple it was. Thank you
