@ToNzZx It could be tolerable if it was segmented. Obviously Bieber and Gaga have fans. So gotta put their shit on. At least an hour or two of every kind of music. Oldies, classic rock, 80's, 90's, live concert footage, unplugged, maybe some interviews.
It would all fit. No room for excuses. How many MTV and VH1 channels are there now?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing really old commercials! Shows how far everything has come over the years!!! Oh yah...MTV too. But it was new and fresh and fabulous at the time. It has completey gone backwards and is now a huge bag of shit. I live in Canada and we had a new fresh video channel that launched for us on August 31, 1984 called Much Music. It was great in the beginning, just like MTV, but it's taken the exact same route. Now they're both SHIT channels. Oh how I long for the past! *sniffle*
From 4:04 to 5:30 The VJ's were talking today on Sirius XM's "80's on 8" that the order of the VJ's doing their intros were done in reverse order. It was supposed to be Mark Goodman going first then the others but they said that the production assistants screwed up the queue.....lol. Listen closely to each intro.
I hope that they bring back the original V.J.'s back for a reunion (R.I.P. J.J. Jackson) this August (like back on their 10th anniversary). It's only fitting, now that MTV has become a raging monster for idotic reality shows....Maybe it would be better if they didn't. I think the original V.J's would puke seeing what MTV has become....Oh well, there's a lot to be said for memories (sigh).....
@archer6569 If you have an XM/Sirius radio, all the original VJs, with the obvious exception of J.J. Jackson (r.i.p.), are on the "80s on 8" station. Plus, they'll be playing all the songs in the original brodcast order from the first day of MTV.
@lemonnis Yeah you can say that again. I think MTV changed hands in 1984 and it's been crap ever since. Artists like Red Rider and Aldo Nova became huge b/c of MTV.
If VH1 Classic really means "VH1 Classic", then they should mean it by airing the original commercials. I have a genuine two-DVD set of "The Ed Sullivan Show" starring The Beatles, and it has the original commercials that aired on those four shows.
When Mtv was actually good! When even "Mainstream" music was still good and made by true musicians! The advancements of technology are great these days but when it comes to pop culture(music, movies, tv, fads, etc..) we'll never see days like these again. The early to mid 80's were the peak and it's been going downhill ever since.
Just wondering. Were people charged extra for that stereo hookup?

In the beginning, there was Music Television...then reality and commercialism took over and killed the video star...

When MTV was MUSIC television not reality television. When things were 'bitchen" and "tubular". Now....it's just sad.

I think The Bulk is the most phenomenal commercial in first MTV. Very art and indeed entertaining.

Did they really air the original commercials when they aired it on VH1 Classic... if they did that's pretty neat!
