  • Would it be better to get a 35mm lens for a Nikon DX dslr instead of a 50mm? I want to get a 50mm but I read that if you have a dx dslr it turns the 50mm into a 75mm basically. So if I got a 35mm would it basically be a 50mm?

  • @SluggerJT44 no because the 35mm is for dx

  • @LenniPenni124 so a 50mm would be fine on a dx dslr?

  • @SluggerJT44 its fine. i use it all the time. i love it

  • It's not just that people don't have tons of money (and most don't), but it's also to do with the fact that carrying a digital full frame camera can be a back breaking, camera bag challenging experience. They can be much bigger and usually heavier than their Crop-sensor counterparts. Thanks for the video.

  • he is so funny,lol

  • he is shooting with my exact camera and lens; dont get me wrong, im a complete amateur, but i enjoy this walking around setup! i shot my whole disney trip with it, and i was very happy with the outcome.

  • How is $1,600 "uber cheap"?!

  • @TaylorrRoyy Oh that's Kai's humor, sarcastic smart little bastard...

  • I still prefer the 50mm for a crop sensor

  • the 1.4G is almost 8x the price of the nikon 35mm 1.8G! :X

  • Dont you feel cold?

  • hahahaha! right when kai gets out of the line, it starts moving. lol!!!!!

  • ... I don't understand anything yet, but i seems kinda cool ! By the way, does anyone here know a good and not to expensive camera for a newbie who wants to learn some photo skills ?

  • idk, i feel like sigma actually did better than nikkor lenses

  • I've got the 1.8G; quite an amazing little lens given its unassuming appearance.

  • "Not everybody has loads of money..so we're looking at crop sensored dslrs..[with a 35 1.4G]" :'D

  • 600th!!!

  • 35mm cheap 1100? :L

  • nice job. it actually reminds me of top gear

  • "Frostmelody" D&G

    blogs.wsj.com/chinarealtime/2012/01/19/dolce-gabbana-apologizes-for-photo-spat/

  • Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G isnt cheap at all! D:

  • what's the brand of the shop that only fob mainlanders can take photos?

  • Please, make this video for Canon.

  • @KowalinskiCorp there's already one for canon.

  • @methoddingo

    Really?

Thanks, I will watch it this evening (:

  • how are these lenses cheap?

  • he is getting old quick

  • What about a Sony Crop comparison: Sony 35mm 1.8 DT, Sony 35mm 1.4 G, Sony 30mm 2.8 Macro? then sigma, tamron, tokina etc..

  • I don't think 1400 euro is cheap.

  • How about a review on the Nikon 55-200 telephoto lens? It's cheap but it's good!

  • And how about tokina 35mm ? ;) And review of 11-16 would be awesome !

  • Is this Kai? :D

  • go Kai haircut .!

  • louis v's, ray b's and a burberry scarf. i see yo swag boi

  • I want the same video for canon chepo lenses including the 28 mm f2.8, 35mm f2.0 and the 24mm f2.8!!!

  • thums up if you like digital rev!

  • oh my god, where's the hat and glasses?

  • Really nice review! I like lens reviews and your outfit is amazing.

  • Truly Sigma 30mm F1.4 is best bang for the buck!

  • How bout for 50mm 1.4g 1.8g on d3100? Make some review about that cos i'm still thinking of what lens should i buy first for d3100.

  • @kimitography get the 35mm f1.8, very good lens :) i have it on my D300s, it's brilliant

  • @SuperKwick ye it's a good lens. i know i won't regret if i get either of these lenses 35mm 1.8g and 50mm 1.8g. but still looking for a good one for my first prime lens, cos i know it'll take ages to buy the other one cos i do have other stuff to buy

  • @kimitography try 35mm f/1.8G.. it's cheaper than those two, and 35 actually gives you 56mm equivalent after the crop sensor...

  • @Kiluwastrife i'm planning to get either 35mm 1.8g or 50mm 1.8g for concert photos. should i get the 50 instead for a bit long distance? cos if i get new prime lens, I'd like to use it for our holiday after the concert.

By the way, I'm gunna bring my 55-200mm lens as well for the concert but i still wanna get prime lens as well for the concert for low light situation

  • @kimitography pardon me but, by what you said concert photos, I supposed you shoot the concert performances? judging by the closest distance an audience can get, you'd probably be relying on the 55-200 a lot more than the fixed lenses...

50mm in crop sensor would give you... around 71mm but i might be wrong...

either 35 or 50mm is actually a must have fixed lense for someone... keep in mind that if you're planning to go for FX(Full Frame) Body in the future, 35mm f/1.8G might be incompatible

  • @Kiluwastrife ye i absolutely planning to get FX body ^_^

  • @kimitography awesome! try peeking Nikon latest D800 XD

  • @kimitography try going to sites like kenrockwell(.)com... they give very thorough review on cameras and lenses...

  • @Kiluwastrife ye i know kentrockwell but i like the way kai visualize things up haha. thanks though

  • I've been waiting for this review. Thanks man

  • LOL turn captions on @ 3:40

  • How with Canon 50mm. We knew, Canon 50mm better than Nikkor 50mm.

  • With the Canon 50mm (red ring)

  • Hey Kai, Where is your glasses?

  • I want the same test for canon!!!

  • @addictabledisaster they did it already

search for "planking" in their channel

  • @Fa9ooly323

Umm no they didn't. That planking video is with the full frame 5D mark II and doesn't really apply to crop cameras.

  • @josh885 right I forgot about that

  • Bokeh! For my Moneh!

  • yo Kai, do you use auto iso for your shots ?

  • Sigma EX Best part lens of the year 2011

  • put on your glasses, you look like golum

  • So??? 50mm 1:1,8G or 35mm 1:1,8G for a D5000? Are 50mm too much?

  • Yes! Poking fun at those rich, mainlanders. The get-up you put on was hilarious. Gotta have that Gucci man purse.

  • You want more bokeh? Take off your glasses :)

  • lool wt happened to your glasses mate?? lol

  • i get it not glasses...

  • you look sick my friend

  • i order 4 lens from you guys website on the 20th of January, and i live in the USA, plus you guys are offering free expedited shipping, so whats the problem, i tracked shipping and its still saying Prepared for Shipment.

  • @mxfnc why dont you just go to B&H or Adorama, they are the best dealler in the country, I bought all my gears from them.

  • perhaps expend e budget and do some overseas shooting. that wld be awesome.

  • the long hair really suits u boy ..

  • can you do this please for canon

  • Comment removed

  • Nice animation at 9:44 !

Compare those photos easier than before

  • Glad you think a Sigma 30mm f1.4 is in the same price range as Nikon 35mm f1.8. It's double the price!

  • Camera u r using is d3100 not d5100 !!

  • Hey, what type of lens should I get for my d5100, a 50mm or a 35mm?

  • hi.. i am new to dslr photography.. bt just wanted to ask... cant you use the electronic rangefinder of d3100 for focusing af-d lenses.. i am planning to buy 50mm f1.8

  • How about a Canon equivalent of crop standard lenses?

  • @blue650sv The Canon APS-C sensor is smaller than the Nikon, so equivalents will be several percent narrower than the Nikon. So standard APS-C would put a Nikon 50mm at 85mm, and a Canon around 88-90mm.

  • waiting for Sigma 8-16mm

  • the old image (hairstyle) suited you better Kai. you look like Japanese rock star now!

  • Have you had your eyes lasered? Just wondered why you aren't wearing glasses. Also, now you aren't wearing them, why are you still holding the camera away from your eye?

  • Samyang!

  • Kai? Y U NO wearing glasses? ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

  • How the heck can you take fotos of the people like that whitout being argued by them???? I've tried this in my city and they're always like "what the fuck are you doing?"

  • @possessedspawn they might of gotten permission before hand and staged it,

alot of people also think its illegal,

when in most country's its perfectly fine as long as you dont have to go out of your way to get the photo EG : "climbing a try to get a photo of some random person etc"

  • "plastic yet fantastic"

  • More videos like this would be good. Useful information.

  • BOKEH!!!!

  • This is the Top Gear of Cameras

  • @JohnDaCajun So true. This is how I fill that void in between episodes of Top Gear. ;)

  • @JohnDaCajun yeah that was what i am thinking!

  • @JohnDaCajun shut up chink, wtf do you know?

Never watch a show host with a British accent?

  • @MeLinhLam Well actually I was referring to how Kai is able to take such a specific subject like photography which does not typically appeal across audience lines and makes the subject enjoyable across those lines by using witty comedy giving fair reviews and injecting just enough personal bias to make things interesting and I know this because I'm not an avid photographer and don't own a DSLR Hell before this show I didn't even know what BOKEH was. In this way I believe it's similar to Top Gear

  • holy crap Kai without glasses and in denim!

  • Still waiting for the Tamron 17-50 review!

  • @bulletsformylady simple, buy the sigma.

  • Where is Alamby???

  • CUT THE HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Time to CUT THAT HAIR!!! The BeeGees are no more.....

  • Man I watch your videos purely for entertainment... I don't shoot Nikon, but I love to watch the witty comedy. I did benefit somewhat from your explenations on how to shoot water and smoke, and various other tutorial like videos. Keep them going!

  • Get back to the office .... hahaha lol

  • @OmniKreations yeah that's what I had in mind, thank you for helping me make my decision.

  • troll

  • Please help I have a d90 and I'm not sure whether it's best to get a 35mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.8. Has anyone got a 50mm for camera with a crop sensor if so how does it fare in the 'real world' or is it better to get a 35mm I'm not going to be upgrading to a full frame dslr anytime soon.

  • @Randomyellowgiraffe in the real world.. it would be better to get a 35mm 1.8 the 50mm in the real world is too long of a focal it acts like an 85mm 1.8 so you need to step back a fair bit.

  • im going to buy a carl zeiss 35 mm f2 lens for my D7000 ultimate sharpness!

  • Pushy bitch at 6:36 makes me not miss Hong Kong. You're far more polite than I Kai. I also agree with CrappyVlog, I'd love to see a Canon version of this!

  • Please take the review at the D&G store :D

  • Canon!!

  • ** 35mm f/1.4 dx is what i meant my bad

  • um is there a 35mm DX lens. umm not on the nikon site, -.- help !

  • The Sigma 30mm 1.4 is brilliant for the price.

  • "Jump in.." xD

  • put your glasses back on they look sick

  • PLEASEEE DO THE CANON VERSION

  • @phinz8827 Do not you need cry. They always do canon version as well...

  • Please put your glasses back on :D

  • he used D3100 huhu....

    06:56 hahahahak... WTF!!

  • I'll still take Sigma 30 f/1.4 for the wider angle and low light capability. 35 f/1.4 is too expensive for me.

  • fuck D&G and Chinese

  • anyone else notice the bentley mulsanne?

  • @143pages I thought it's a Flying Spur. I've been watching too much Mulsanne videos so I have those two mixed up.

  • @Zackarydoo 7 people didnt get the joke...

  • @Zackarydoo Then get a job.

  • u look stylish with ur glasses off and long hair..

  • excellent question, useful answers.

  • You have no shame...

  • Great review guys! Really enjoy it!!

  • I own the 35mm f/1.8 and I absolutely love it!

    Thinking of getting the 50mm

  • Well ya of course the af 2.8 lens isn't going to work with the 3100. The 3100 is only compatible with af-s lens, not af lens
