thank you for compiling this playlist...rosenberg trio one of my all time favorites and I was a friend of mary honcoop who sold their cd-s for years...she passed on
for anyone into guitar to not have listened to Django is an insult to the influence he had.. and for anyone into bleeding their soul into guitar, yet again, an insult to the heart in Djangos playing.. not imitatable, obviously(unless your a psychotic like stochelo), but definately a necessary exposure to truly Great guitar playing.
i remember a video of a Jimmy hendrix improvisation where you can hear a small part of django's improvisation Echoes of Spain, but first time i didnt hear it because of his heavy distortion. I would find it more hard to believe if Jimmy didnt listen to django or didnt know him... great guitarists are mostly inspired by other greats..like django.
It must be transcendental to be able to play the Improvisation in such a way, it's like shaking hands with Django in some strange fashion. 2:18, it looks like Stochelo's in a trance. Fascinating.
@slinkyballs06 As cool as it would be to suggest Hendrix listened to Django, what records prove that? I've studied the man extensively, and i find it hard to believe.
@JustM3Luck - many guitar players in the 60's were into Django, whether or not they sound like him. Jimi's BAND OF GYPSY'S- i heard was a name inspired by Django
@jimdylanyoung While I understand that Jimi could have listened to Django, it's simply unlikely. Jimi was much more influenced by the american Jazz scene, particularly through the works of Wes Montgomery. And the Band of Gypsies was inspired by Jimi's personal heritage. Out of all the empirical evidence there is on the subject (biographies and such) nothing remotely mentions Django. Keep in mind, however, that I'm a tremendous fan of both artists
I sometimes notice when I hear gypsy music that there's a little hint of flamenco in it cause of that guitar scale they use in flamenco. Excellent video.

i would easily believe hendrix did listen to Django... he must have known of the greats before he was one himself
