There's more to the story than raw speed.

Where Sprint wins is not in throughput but in latency. Note that in the test above, Sprint has 1/3 the latency of AT&T. This essentially gives Sprint a 200ms head start. In my experience, AT&T can show awful latency times--I've consistently seen 2 seconds or more on bad days.

This gives AT&T an edge for downloading a video or an MP3, but in AJAX-heavy social networking websites and SaaS apps, Sprint has a huge advantage.

Sprint has the best data service of the bunch, while AT&T often times maintains greater coverage. I have both services, for different purposes (The vehicle phone is AT&T, while the pocket carried devices are Sprint).

AT&T is faster due to them actually utilizing the 850 MHz spectrum they have. The lower the spectrum, the better signal inside buildings. Rev. A use the 1900 MHz spectrum, except Rural parts the mid west. Besides, HSDPA ( which is max at 14 mb\s with AT&T) has a average speed of about 3.4 to 7.5 mb\s, Rev. A max is 3.1 Mb\s with the real world average of just 0.8 to 2.1 Mb\s. Beside T-Mobiles HSDPA is the fastest

You should use the speedtest . net application from the market and app store. Also, you would need to test in different locations and in moving vehicles all over the nation to see who is faster. Lots of variables here.

In Los Angeles California, i regularly get speeds of over 2mb down on my tp2 on sprint.... i think more important than the network is the networks coverage in your area t-mobile gets over 5down in Montclair California

where i am tmobile 3g is king,

att gives an average of about 820k (tested on iPhone 3g)

sprint gives about 830k (tested on HTC hero)

verizon gives about 730k (tested on Droid Eris)

and tmobile gives about 1400k (tested on G1).

tmobiles 3g is fastest.

i would have to say that att 3g coverage is bad here. verizon is pretty good, sprint and tmobile are about the same and better than verizon.. metro is better than att here, lol

GSM is far more dependent on range then EVDO. Meaning you need to be closer to a tower to get 3g network speed with ATT. Why do you think that Verizon and Sprint have better coverage on 3g than ATT? I noticed when making this video that you had full signal on the HSDPA device and NEVER showed the EVDO Rev A signal strength. Could it be you were closer to an ATT tower?

Blah blah blah. Yes, they may be different phones, but I'm pretty sure it's common knowledge that AT&T's data network speeds far outshine the competitors. On the flip side, their coverage is far outshined by the competitors.

Where in the world are you located? If you aren't anywhere on ATT's 3G network, you might as well not use the web because it is dog slow. Here in Charlotte, NC even in center city Sprint still beats ATT & not just because Sprint has 4G here!

@thesandman775 there network is meant to be faster, verizons/sprints fastest speed with their technology is 3.1mbps and att is 3.6mbps on regular 3G and then 3.5G but Verizon doesn't have so there is n comparison

I had to comment on this video cause its such an INACCURATE test...

1st off he is using 2 different phones... big mistake there, he isnt too bright

2nd, he is using dslreports which is the worst mobile speed test site

If he really wants to do an accurate speed test, use the same phone from each provider... Use an HTC touch pro 2 GSM and an HTC touch pro 2 CDMA and TETHER both to 2 different PC's that are the same brand and model at the same time...

Another thing to consider is the size of the network. Yes Sprint does have basically the same footprint as Verizon, but that is because they roam off of Verizon quite a bit, and you don't get true "3G" speeds when roaming with Sprint.

it does depent where you are... obviously testing one phone right next to the other will slow down either one... ive myself went to the apple store and tested the iPhone 3gs and my HTC TP2 and the TP2 smoked the iPhone.... TP2 also has a bigger and more resolution screen.... and so many other things iPhone just cant compete anymore... im sorry guys but th aPPphone is getting kinda old....

I really does matter where you are... here Verison has a near monopoly on service so unless you're in town you can't get real good ATT service. I know there some issues with the towers and such... there is always a kind of shadiness in smaller towns when it comes to this stuff
