  • What is the name on the punch in the end when he used both arms? (I do not mean the block)

btw nice video! It helped alot :)

  • Sounds like he's trying to bring up a fur ball;)

  • ITS A ROBOT MAN!!

  • Everything is wrong about this version of Sanchin. It's so diferent from the original that it misses it's point. And one of the most importaint parts- breathing is soooo wrong. Even the stance is to wide so he could easily get kicked in the balls. Check Uechi ryu Sanchin, that's the original version that's been practiced, some say, for even 2000 years.

  • man ibuki sounds like the Grudge is having an epileptic fit!

  • I love this guys breathing its awesome!! How does he do it? Its like clearing your throat but I have acid reflux so I couldnt do this kata this way.

  • great kata..great Kyokushin....the strongest..OSU!

  • I love Kyokushin but their kata's level is very low compare to a goju ryu or a shotokan karateka

  • @dragonbut i have seen some really good kata from Kyokushinka, it all depends on the amount of practice you put into it, goju and shotokan we puit alot more focus on kata then Kyokushin where as their focus at least from what i can see nowadays is kumite.

  • @dragonbut Very true, but after training under a Goju Ryu Teacher and a Shotokan teacher Oyama decided that sparring and strength training was the way forwards for his karateka rather than dividing training equally like Shotokan or delving heavily into kata like Goju Ryu. To his thinking kata is how you learn moves, sparring is how you perfect them, just a difference of opinion.

  • Kyokushin('s) Sanchin Kata is from Goju Ryu('s) Sanchin Kata. Mr. Oyama Sosai (founder of Kyokushin) trained under Yamaguchi "The Cat". Mr. Yamaguchi trained under Mr. Miyagi who was the Soshisha or founder of Goju Ryu. Mr. Higashionna was Mr. Miyagi sensei who taught him the bunkai or application of this kata. And it also aids with Ibuki breathing and muscle control.

  • This strange noise is Kokyu ho A.K.A. breathing methods

That's breathing and a muscle contract, but its really odd, to show that in a video usually teachers ask for you to not do it in public cause sometimes people gets impressed (in a wrong way)

And Just for a record there's the female's sanchin which does not look like that at all

  • dont think that would work against a mugger somehow

  • @m0rningstretch it's not supposed to work against a mugger -_-

  • @m0rningstretch

    Derp. Of course not.

  • His breathing sounds rather odd...

  • Why does he have to make the sound of a cat gagging each time he does a move? Wouldn't a more serious sound at least be better?

  • @Xadreos That is not done for scareing enemies. If you some day learn this kata correctly you will understand exactly what's it all about.

  • I cant ibuki that is why I dont go to green :(

  • @ester1297 Then practice it. ?

  • this kata is a copy from the original sanchin kata from karate goju ryu .!

  • @thejard1 Yes it is.. as are some others.

  • Sure it may look and sound freaky, but I've seen demos where guys took shots to the neck, kidneys, groin, etc. or had boards broken over their heads while doing this kata...without so much as blinking!

  • @rozz6398 The hitting of the person doing the kata is called the 'shime'. Now now, I'm not acting all pro here and I certainly am not (I wish I am), but every muscle in the body has to be tensed up and the 'shime' is a method of testing whether you're doing the kata properly. Btw some of the senseis do groin kicks too, if you're learning this kata rmb to keep your sanchin stance bent with your knees close so they can trap a groin kick!

  • kyokushin karate ibuki is diffrent compare to gojuryu karate.kyokushin directly from gojuryu(mas oyama sosai trained under yamaguchi gogen and so nei chu조영주)

but for kyokushin karate oyama sosai developed own breathing tech.sanchin, safa, seinchin, tensho is little bit diffrent than gojuryu.

  • @FreakyChallenges that's the joke of the year jajaja xD

  • @Charlitos1988 WHY THE HELL THE COMMENT ABOUT "CHEWBACCA BEEN STABBED" DISSAPEARED?

  • lol. I used to hate.....hate....HATE doing this kata back in the day. I felt so stupid doing it. haha.

  • This is the most terrifying thing I've ever heard in my life.

  • He doesn't say it right.... He stinks at it actually!

  • @LosTutosDeFelix Who does at what?

  • Sanchin kata is a basic tenant of Kyokushin karate. With practice it consummates the unity of mind, body, and spirit. Sanchin and Tensho are the two most important katas in karate.

  • he is gonna throw up any minute

  • OMG it's samantha from the ring movie

  • He he

  • @tariqazeez Oh and for the record, Sanchin Dachi was originally for fighting in EXTREMELY close quarters like on boats and in narrow alleyways ect. Mobility is key in any style of fighting... ever heard of the term "sitting duck"?

  • @tariqazeez I have been doing karate for 14 years. Its kind of the family buisness. But going away for college I decided to take up kickboxing with one of my dads old friends...

But enough back story, No. This is not the perfect defensive stance. You are too planted and have no mobility, fighting anyone who has thrown a leg kick they will chop you down without breaking a sweat.

If there was only ONE perfect stance, there would be no reason to have a variety of stances.

  • @sandayu okay... the breathing in this video is ridiculous and over exaggerated. The reason you MAY hear people breath loudly during kata is because power from striking comes from your core (abs and such) so you tensing though muscles as hard as you can forces the air out of your lungs... The guy in this video is just kinda ridiculous...

If there is anything else you want to know just message me haha.

  • @JHourahine Eh no The breathing is actually called Ibuki in the kyokyshin style. Its a form of breathing-practice

  • Comment removed

  • can some1 explain me why the heck u have to breathe like that? i started my kyokushin trainig in february but yet i don't get what for u have to breathe in such way oO

  • @sandayu study more and u would know ........ or just ask ur instructor

  • @sandayu in kyokushin karate, this awakward breathing call 'ibuki' it will make strong body and increase lung capacity.you will learn this kata sanchin when you are in yellow belt.sanchin kata is very hard to do it,and this guy on video is from iKO

matsui shokei group from Japan.sounds very weird but he does it very good.

  • I don't practice this stuff, but I've done training with the Kyokushin guys. They like to keep their kata for the sake of respect for Sosai Oyama, but at the end of the day they prefer to have their sanshin testing. By this I mean getting hit by shinai or planks of wood. That is more the heart of these guys from my limited experiences with them. They are more fighters than kata technicians.

  • great ibuke !

  • funny as hell! I laughed so much.

Excuse my ignorance though, I think it's very hard to master.

  • ya i laughed even tho i do shotokan karate

his breathing seems painful and not strong

  • sounds like a dieing whale on crack beleave me or not

i know it's hard to do that kata but still funny to hear that guy ^^

  • No understanding of sanchin in this demo.

  • esos ruidos que pedo???

  • horrible

  • Es un avion?... no.

    Es un cohete?....no

    Es una foca?...no

    que es entonces!

Es una karateca haciendo la kata sanchi kyokushinkai.

  • tambal Means (STUPID)

  • i learned that kata when i was a whitebelt ( 10th kyu)

  • thats an advanced yellow belt kata, white belt?? wtf??

  • its a form of breathing where you deprive blood to the brain.... to be a kyokishin black belt you have to do this kata while several ppl beat you silly. it really hurts

  • It's called shallow breathing!? Which can be found in the Okinawan karate systems. Or main land japanese systems! Also karate's roots come from! White crane gung fu, in the fukien province southern china! Plus a system called shaolin five ancestors fist.. Which contains the original samchien sets!! one to twenty.

  • it isn;t called shallow breathing.its called ibuki sankai which is an abdominal breathing.

  • Point taken! But from a chinese prospective! Which can be ambiguous! We call that type of internal breath control!Shallow breathing. There is expansion of the abdominals, rib bone power,(Gen) shook power.every system from asia has their own manifest of using internal energy!

  • with sanchin kata you need to tighten the tanden.... which with locking your stance (the three points) and breathing in as you move into the stance, and exhaling as you lock the stance. but the breathing does not come from the throat, it comes from the tightening of the tanden and forcing the air out of your stomach via tension of the tanden linked in with the isometric tensioning of the body and your stance. there are many different variations of this kata, keep on practising. Osu

  • hello

  • Comment removed

  • How do you do that breathing thing? I'm one of the few in my class who cant do it.

  • You have to breathe out slowly from the back of your throat. Your stomach muscles will tighten about one or two inches below your belly button. This breathing technique is all important in Kyokushinkai. Mas Oyama especially concentrated on this breathing in sanchin dachi, which is the most stable stance for karatekas.

  • thise "funny" breathing sounds is the original way karate masters used to build up their lungs and chest muscles to withstand harder attacks. if your gunna make stupid comments then i wouldnt bother because you obviously have no idea what your going on about. simple as

  • sounds like u are constipated coz u talk alot of shit

  • gay? y dun u try it out n see if its gay, ill tell one of me lower belts to spar u n see if ud even last. if theres anything u dunt understand, just ask or come in to my dojo anytime

  • kyokushin power in this kata!

    oss

  • this is master Higashionna's version of sanchin (sanchin dai ni) derived from Goju Ryu. Master Chojun Miyagi of Goju Ryu had his own version with no turns (sanchin dai ichi)

  • I'm embarrassed about some coments. This kata is used for training the body and for combative skills report NO DIRECT use, I inssist, is for training the body and mind.

Please make the effort to know deeply the art before make any comments and not the crap "I practice X , I practice Y..." what a shame.

  • @SerpentorX I beg to differ.. Sanchin Dachi is the most usable stance in extreme defense.. It's used by my style(kyokushin) and three other main branches of chinese and japanese styles.. If you really study this kata than you'll see that it's the perfect defens/counter stance as it has no openings

  • @SerpentorX I agree it has no combative Application there are other Katas for that , its like the Chinese art of Quigong its about breathing and movement. Further more its a good form of dynamic meditation. MMA athletes could benefit from this, Chi development would excercise your internal organs, and a good cool down after a strenous cardio session.

  • @Kaisertoji Lols I find this a strenous cardio session.

  • @SerpentorX Mostly u are correct. However, Sanchin is also proper for direct use. Sanchin is like so-called Tie Bu Shan in Chinese Kongfu, which is used for anti - beaten and protecting crotch. It is a great stand for battle on deck

  • @SerpentorX True man the reason you do sanchien is to help connect the mind to the body. Cause Sanchin translates to three battles the mind the body and the soul. And through doing this kata you try to combine all of those into one. I practice traditional Shudokan Karate. And we don't free spar. We practice this almost every day. A real good kata to do in the morning.

  • @SerpentorX I disagree... sanchin has some of the simplest and most effective applications

  • That breathing is not pointless, you are a fool if you make decisions withaut knowledge. It's not pointless not from spiritulity side and not from anatomy side. Ofcorse this exercise is more from anatomy, to make your body stronger. If you didn't now the correct breathing makes your strikes powerfull. Make some search at google and you wil find information about it.

  • Martial arts ar science of fight. Hundreds of years masters have studying the ways have to make human body in deadly weapon. Breath is ability to live , and its only a metter of human have he makes it, how he breath it. This breathing technique is very old and it's discowered and developed by many great, strong and wise masters only a fool can contradict those knowladges. 10 years? Such a shame you have been developing only in your foolishness.

  • So i don't see where is he saying that it's element of training is, how you said, "crap" or it's pointless, ask him does he think this element of training is pintless of course the answer will be no, because it's a part of all karate. Breathing technics are one of the main karate propertys of all styles.

  • Why i ca't find any video of this karate style in youtube? Thoso who were found was very unimpressive.

  • its called shorinji ryu kenkokan.

  • I see your style is more based on weapons, yes? How many years you have practiced only your body without weapons since you begin to train with weapons?

  • Well what i can say those videos of that master didn't impress me too. Well may be it's only video, but i say what i see.

  • andy hug did kyokushin ..and he is the best....

  • @torriuke "Correct breathing makes your strikes powerful." How true. But this isn't correct breathing. Exhaling against a closed glottis like this will (among other things) spike your vascular, cranial, and pulmonary pressures. This is bad for you! As I understand it, "ibuki" breathing is exhaling with the abdomen tensed - not with the throat half closed. This isn't the most extreme example I've seen; but people who "strain" like this are putting their health at risk long-term.

  • @GojuBob You don't like it don't do it. This is the way it is done in kyokushin. You may not understand it but that does not nmake it incorrect.

  • @NeverSoHonest Please read my post again. I understand very well from a medical point of view that it isn't a good idea to breathe like this. It isn't a matter of liking or not liking it.

  • @GojuBob Actually, this type of breathing, known as ibuki, is a great way to re-oxygenate the blood...His whole body is tensed and the forcing of the air helps to oxygenate the blood - loosening the muscles and in turn tightening them...It is definitely not a bad idea when practiced properly...

  • @GojuBob I agree with you in my dojo we have changed the way of breathing as it has been shown to affect the flow of air reaching the lungs and can even cause a stroke. We have to accept everything evolves, we have an old saying "renew or die "......

  • And you don't know anything about this karate style.

  • Say what?

  • Thanks for uploading this. But the constant changing of the camera maybe me confused :S Still, this helped me alot! Thanks.

    OSU

  • i like the sound of his ibuki, just like fighter in the wind and like darth vader, haha. cant wait to learn this. if i gave this MA or KK a nickname, it would be hardcore karate. even though im begginer i still respect this kata, not as easy as it looks, determination n diligence will carry u.

  • they are very strong positions, I have seen people receive direct hits in black belt exams and properly done they can take them. But this is not for begginers.

  • thanks for the advice, tell me more bout ibuki plz?

  • kevin renshi fookes can do better, just kdin

  • omg , i must lernd this for 4 kyu ;[[[

  • Dudes

this breathe-technique is called ibuki. it's nothing about smoking or some kind of that ;)

  • Anormalllllllllllll!

  • In week my exam trying to learn this kata

  • By the way, please don't take my comments as gospel. I don't claim to be an expert. Just a simple karate-ka offering an opinion. Osu!!!

  • hey peeps, could someone explain what is happening in this video, I dont practice karate (Muay thai and silat), whats the concept and the principles to what and why he is doing this? thank you

  • He is performing Sanchin, one of the kata's in Goju Ryu karate. A kata is a formal exercise based on an imaginated battle. In this kata it is very important to breath correctly and to tighten every muscle. That's why you hear his breath so well.

  • Hey BigMommaaSSJ, thank you for the reply. one more question, the breathing aspect, is that to aid Mushin (focus, concentration etc) or does to help ki (i think thats right, haha), power and incase of impact off a counter?

  • I practice Shotokan so I can't give a correct answer on the question why. I think the breathing is necesary for the energy ( as you said ), power and tension. There are also elements of mushin in it I think. Every aspect of karate is used in kata.

  • seany83, I practice a variation of kyokushin and we do sanchin in our style. It has been explained to me that the purpose of the breathing is two-fold.

  • First, one of the most important aspects of this kata is the tightening of the muscles. The breathing helps to accomplish this. Second, the breathing itself is an excersize call "Ibuki" which can be done within or outside of a kata. Ibuki requires the karate-ka to breath in as much air as possible and the breath out all the air in the lungs. Mas Oyama taught that people only use 70% of their lung capacity and that Ibuki can be used to improve upon this.

  • Kata is a formation of movements, basicly every single move which you could see can be use to block or attack, becouse Kyokushinkai is a self defence;)

  • What do you find funny?

  • Why I don't find this funny? That's because I'm a practitioner to Kyokushin karate. This so-called "laughable" shape helps harden the abdomen, so he or she can take hard strikes.

  • And you don't know squat about this form at all.

  • Don't you dare give me that bull crap of you being a black belt in karate. Instead of commenting with such idiocy, you're better off doing research in your own terms, Mr. Dumb Ass.

  • You sound like you may have trouble appreciating other forms of martial arts. The key is to keep an open mind.

  • I'm serious, you should check out the Iron Wire Set, which includes the 8 sounds that signify different emotions/energies.

This just looks like it creates incredible blood pressure.

  • it can create blood pressure if done incorrectly, ie if you use to much tension, the idea is to gradually increase the tension, i would recommend this kata to be done under supervision at first, done regularly, sanchin will increase your lung capacity, and overall strength,

  • I'm serious - if you want proper internal forms, go to the source. The Japanese did - over and over again.

Check out sifu Chiu Chi Ling's Iron Wire Set

    watch?v=fDTniv8PuW0

The form showcases the 8 emotions, as well as chi kung.

  • youre right, i know the form your talking about, the iron wire set, sanchin has its roots in white crane, they do a similar set called san chiem.

  • I like this version.hard sanchin eh.

wing chun uses sanchin as a fighting stance but it is done relaxed.

    very kool to see.

  • seido karate 4 me lol i do it

  • If you don't know anything about karate, don't post. It's that simple.

  • is this kata mandatory to become a black belt?

  • Yes. This kata is mandatory for the yellow belt (at least here in Kanada). For the black belt you must know all katas for the preceding belts.

  • Holy crap!!!!!!! Darth Vader is asian!!! :0

  • As I see this video I realize that oyama sensei needed to train goju ryu karate do a little bit longer to get the right breathing technic of Okinawa goju ryu.

  • LOL at how he breathes OSU!

  • That's actually pretty standard.

  • Beautiful technique and breathing.

You have to try this to know how hard it is!

  • It's one of those kata where it's really as hard as you make it. I think if you'e doing it well, you should probably be sweating by the end.

  • omg this guy is very funny roflmao

    OSu !

  • this is done very similarly to isshinryu's version, although i dont think we split the tension breathing into two sections... haha i'll have to ask sensei:)

  • mmmm i dont know about kyokushin sanchin, but i believe it have to be very similar to goju ryu sanchin (where it comes), and from that point of view the breathing is wrong. its not about noise, its about tense your muscles and breath with the tandem, and when you do it the noise is natural. this man dont tense his muscles and is just making noise like darth vader. better look at higaonna sensei sanchin

  • I did this style and I don't remember splitting it into two sounds for each move. To me it should be one continuous sound expressing at the end of the move to focus the ki. I think this may just be for the purposes of the video? Not sure, if I'm wrong I humbly apologise to the black belt in the vid.

  • y does he breathe that way?

  • he's exhaling all the air from his body - I mean ALL. Traditionally, there should be someone beating him all time, and he should survive this - this is a purpose of this kata.

  • actually the original kata did not have anyone beating u in that was added .

  • You just don't know the kata. That sound that you call "weird tone" is his ibuki. I agree with slh86 that it is for the breathing muscles. At first, it sounds creepy, but if you know it's effect to the body, then you will say "wow, MAN! ANATA NO IBUKI WA HONTOU NI KAKKOII DESU!!!"

  • hahahaha that was good man

  • a lil more powerfull and something will get out of his ass an un known matter i think

  • whats happening with that even i am a beginner , but thats all wrong and the breathing if that you can call breathing , and the space between the legs one mae geri there and you cant have any children, better see the tests done by sensei higaonna one in japan and the other in argentina check them

  • You sure you do Kyokushin? If your a beginner than what gives you the right to criticize a higher belt? (Remember, most beginners think they know everything, when in fact most of them don't know what the fuck they are talking about) Thats how we sound when we do Ibuki in Kyokushin, I dont know what style you do, but Oyama changed a little bit of all the kata's he knew to fit his needs and create his style.

  • Hahahahaha! At the end he should say "I am your father"!! :-)

  • he's doing the breathing reaaaaally wrong

    and at the wrong time

  • ur suppose to breath very deeply wen u do this kata. trust me, ive done it

  • You know, that breathing is totally exaggerated. It's based on the same principles of Yoga's "breath of fire" (look it up), but such forcefulness is unnecessary and even counterproductive. Sanchin requires DYNAMIC TENSION (look that up as well) accompanied by effective breathing. Read up on Sanchin kata and its origins to understand this point.

  • wow

  • anyone know a website i can go to see blue Ideo Geiko?
