@SuperJmccann they are actually coming to my city next week! our vocal jazz ensemble gets to have an all day closed session with them, singing with them and everything then a concert later that night.. it's soooo exciting!
To be honest I don't like this cover. It's nice, but it has no emotion at all. It's just a good presentation of their voice abilities, Chillout tunes, not harmful for ears, but nothing special. Check Sting's & Botti's version to have a comparison.
dang, i remember seeing these guys along with Rajaton in Creston, Iowa at South West Iowa Community College during a Jazz Choir festival, and i went to a vocal percussion clinic and actually got advice from their percussionist. We did this song in our set as well, but a much different version. We also did an acapella version of Steve Winwood's Higher Love. That was an awesome day!
ummm... are you guys sure this is live? the mic distances dont match the volume or the length of some of the passages.... actually, some of the lips dont even match either. in one part, the white shirt guy looks like hes already done singing but the vocal carries on.
@Tallbananna ... ummm... I'm the guy in the white shirt... pretty sure it's live. ;-)
I'm flattered that you think it sounds good enough to be a pre-record, however the reality is that if we were using a prerecorded vocal, we would have fixed A LOT of other loose ends that are clearly audible.
What you're seeing is an audio/video sync issue... not a lip sync issue.
@dpwls really?? well then great job, thats pretty awesome. question though, why is the black guys mic so far from most of his singing? this is just curiosity, not arguing. no one else goes that far from his mouth... he cant be the only one with a louder voice than the rest, can he?
@Tallbananna ... thanks for your kind words. :-)
To answer your questions, the type of mics we use (shure beta 87a) are extremely sensitive. Britt (who sings the highest part) must adjust his proximity to the diaphragm of the mic in order to keep from distorting, or being too loud in the mix as some of his highest tones are extremely loud.
The issue you noticed at the end of my solo (where the tone continues when I'm no longer singing) was just a delay effect that our sound tech uses.
I'm the alto, and I couldn't agree more! I learned that, just because someone's a fashion designer, it doesn't mean you should listen when they tell you to wear something!
This is now the favourite of my favourites!I feel it right down to my bones. Each of these guys is so special and together they just make me melt! This is 21st century vocal jazz perfection! Let them sing this in my living room and I'll die and go to heaven!
This is MY SONG for many reasons, one which holds a special memory of Vancouver and a fabulous friend who no longer is in my life...this version is absolutely beautiful. can you sing in my living room?
I've heard many versions of this song. Most of which I enjoy very much. Yours takes the entire cake. I got to meet and hang w/ you guys at Brazosport community college in clute/lake jackson. You guys are the best!!!

@Tallbananna They are using a type of microphone that picks up sound a lot farther way than other mics would.

みんながみんなリードもバックも歌いこなすのが素晴らしいですね。
少ししか唇を開いていないのに、なんであんなに声が大きく響くのでしょう?
it's awesome that all men can sing as lead vocal and back chorus.
