Umm no, that wouldn't make any sense. Normally the female is the one that gives birth. If the birth-giving ones were flying around, WTF would the males be doing; lounging around? :p It's called the "queen bee" for a reason.

It is kind of a moot point anyway to identify the gender of the workers since they're usually sterile - but, then again, in some species there are specific situations where the worker bees lay eggs. On the other hand, there are genetic reasons for the workers to be female and not male, but that'd be complicated to explain. Sufficeth to say male bees are relatively rare and their only job is to mate. Incidently, termite workers can be male or female.

Orchids have all sorts of specialized adaptations to attract their various pollenators. The problem for orchids can be that they can be so specialized sometimes, they only have one specific pollenator, thus if anything happens to that one pollenator species, the orchid species is also doomed.
