ok ive got to ask whats your front end the detail really is something the bass is fully extended treble is sweet no siblence i am impressed kudos ps the carpenters are awsome takes me right back to my youth good job 10/10
a fantastic uplifting track from Karen, just shows how versatile her voice was and that she can sing this kind of song which isn't using her amazing lower register and sound just as unbelievable, there'll never be another Karen Carpenter!!
As always Mowtownboy I have added another one of your brilliant videos to my favorites list on YouTube. Now if I could just figure out how to get your videos to load on to my Ipod everything would be right in my music world. Karen is obviously loved by millions of fans around the world and still missed terribly to this day, almost 30 years on. Music today is all computerized crap with no talent behind it - just looks and P.R. people. At least we have recordings left of the REAL talent in music.
i was only 19 year old when i found on the flipside of a 45rpm record the song "Happy". karen carpenter's angelic voice is missed by me and millions by her untimely death to a horrible affliction, anorexia. love as God loves us, not be our outward appearance. she now sings with the angels. i listen to her all the time. thanks for posting this incredible song that never had air play on the radio!
The purest, most beautiful voice to grace this earth. Your voice now with the angels of heaven above. Love you Karen. Always have...always will. You made me "Happy!"
@jeanandbilly Nice to hear from a fellow fan. We did lose an angel. There will never, on this earth, be a more beautiful voice. But someday.....just imagine, the hole in my heart that was left when she passed will be filled, and once again, it will be "Yesterday, Once more!" Thanks for making my day!
@Winchesterboy100 You have a wonderful way with words.Yes It was Only Yesterday, I wanted to say Goodbye To Love but For All We Know we're going thru an Intermission and its not the End Of The World...We've Only Just Begun to rid of This Masquerade of Rainy Days and Mondays to Sing, feel Happy & on Top Of The World again like its Yesterday Once More. Jambalaya anyone? (corny huh? but you inspired me lol! Have a great day!)
@jeanandbilly By no means "corny." I'm glad I "inspired" you! :) You made me think of her "Sweet, Sweet Smile." and I bet, right now, Karen is singing a "Song for you!" God bless our "Superstar!" Who else, dear friend, could bring people together through their legacy of Songs. (And let us not forget Richard! ) It's a shame there is no way to exchange contact info, such as an e-mail address. It would be a pleasure to talk and share more of the memories "The Carpenters" gave us with you!
I have always loved that song, as good or better than any of the big hits!!!! Karen Carpenter is just incredible, one of the most beautiful, soothing voices in pop rock history, period!!
wow. I love the stereo mix of this song. the drums are in your face. and the close mic technique allow you to hear her lips smack. This version is dripping in reverb. I like it, but not as much. But, how can you f*** up a masterpiece.
genius genius, i-m from sao paulo, brazil, i grew up in the sixties, i was 15 in sao ´paulo when this brilliant album came out. such a splendored powerful masterpiece. it touched me so much as a teenager. it still does now that i m touching the fifties. quality and beauty are ageless and timeless. fortunetly. thankls
I think by 1975 the public had dealt with Carpenters overload. They didn't put out an album in 1974, and their style of music was losing popularity to the rise of funk and disco.
A lot of bands fade out due to changes in public moods, etc.
However, their music is now timeless, and fantastic.
I disagree, this was on one of their best songs. It may not have made the Top 40 as a single, but I listen to it much more than "Solitare". And definitely it is much better than "Goofus" from the "Kind of Hush" album.
I haven't heard this song in literally decades since the 70's. I think there are better album cuts from Horizon that were not released as singles, such as "I can dream can I?". Goofus is one of the few from Carpenters that I don't like...along with the album cuts sung by Richard. "One More Time" from KOAH would have been much better than Goofus as a single. But with few exceptions, Karen's voice and singing make any song sound good. Do you have any other quad Carpenters albums?
Yes, I have posted the "I Can't Make Music" from "Now & Then" and some other tracks from "Horixzon." I also have "Singles 1969-1973" in Quad, but the SQ encoding on that LP is horrible and the decdoing script I use, which works great with other SQ albums, doesn't work well with the encoding on that particular album.
That's too bad. The singles album would have been great. I have listened to all your quad Carpenters songs; they sound terrific. I really like the "space" and "air" between the instruments, and how Karen's voice stands out up front in the middle. How about "I can dream can I?" from Horizon? Please!!??
@THEmotownboy Hello. The reason why your carpenter LP doesn't decode well with your scripts is because the album is recorded in CD-4 format. There are no CD-4 quadraphonic scripts. Carpenters / A&M records used CD-4, which was a discrete format. SQ and QS were matrix formats.
@Discotized - - For this song "Happy" is from CD-4 LP of "Horizon" and there was no script used or needed. Re-read my comment to infinera06. You misread what I wrote.
Check your facts. Not all A&M quadraphonic LPs were in CD-4. Some of them were SQ encoded. The Carpenters "Singles 1969-73" and "Now & Then" quad LPs were SQ encoded.
Great tribute. Can't say that I was a huge fan, more of an admirer of their music. But this video brought me to a new level of appreciation!! Thanks for doing it!!
Fantastic! thanks so much for sharing this. I'd never heard the Quad version before and I like it. I too love this song and it's so nice to hear it "fresh" after all these years.
This would have made an awesome SINGLE - and a hit for them Wonderful quad mix - love it all over again

Because it was clearly not one of their best. I doubt it would have made the top 40.
