  • You are pretty much an economic illiterate. You should never make another video.

  • Brock, you don't work. We all know this. Having a "business" that doesn't actually do anything doesn't count as working. So enough with the "taking my hard earned money" bullshit. Enjoy your inheritance, pretty boy.

  • The biggest problem with min. wage when I worked it is that it treats all workers as equal regardless of productivity. I worked hard and still brought home the same 7.25 that the guy who goofed off brought home. No incentive for me to do anything except goof off when i go to work. Now my boss has a problem. Everybody's goofing off. Nothing's getting done. Business is plummeting. Soon he's canning people. If we rewarded productivity, we'd have growth and more money to pay EVERYBODY.

  • @nofalltoofar actually you make it sound like you should have gotten a raise.... why didnt your boss give you one? if you were that "productive"...? why didnt he fire a "goof-off" and pay you for both jobs. the savings on a reduced payroll would have more then made up for even a slight wage increase on your check. why is everybody you work with a goof-off. what job was this...? how many minimum wage jobs have you had...?

  • @MpowerdAPE

No money to give me a raise. Too busy paying people who sucked at their job. I worked food service for a theme park (I was one of hundreds of employees) and they rarely fired people. I had multiple bosses different days, all who answered to a bigger boss. Nobody on the floor had the power to fire people. Couple that with "hiring quotas," the practice is loaded against the decent employee. I have had two more minimum wage jobs since with similar effects.

  • @nofalltoofar

the reason you cant move up in your job is because... everybody else sucks, hiring quota's and a 7.50 minimum wage.

    yes, that must be it.

  • @MpowerdAPE

Dude, you've converted me. I'm barking up the wrong tree trying to pay for my education.

I'm just gonna drop out and sit around in my parents' basement watching youtube like you. (From the way you talk it's clear you've never held down a shit-job in your life, and therefore, are either 13 years old or never actually held down a job. Either way, you're still jacking off in mom and dad's basement.)

  • @nofalltoofar hey man, i didnt try to support my point with a rather boring BS story about how my personnal failings are the fault of everybody else including minorities and people at work who dont pick up my slack.

back to the subject ,black people and a $7.50 average minimum wage are not keeping you from success. your attitude is. the min-wage is a joke, talking about it as if its destroying the economy with brock lawley fronting as the enlightened lecturer... is a 4 minute laugh riot.

  • @MpowerdAPE

Dude, I didn't even have to mention black people and you jumped right to the fact that my work hired people because they had to (hiring quotas) and they couldn't fire (potential lawsuits).

And once again, anybody that worked an actual min wage job knows that these "excuses" are quite real and will keep you down.

Please, just keep to your CoD and your low-grade pot. Let the adults duke stuff out in the real world.

  • @nofalltoofar dont get all sensitive. nobody of any consequence is gonna visit this channel and take it up with you.

when you say "hiring quota's" we know what you mean, or.... what exactly did you mean...?

"excuses" indeed..... i wonder if thats what congress had in mind when they passed the law.... although it seems to be working out well for your self respect.

  • Nice video! I have a feeling that "work hard" will cause a bit of a stir in the monday morning youtube quarterback crowd.

  • FYI from the Dept. of Labor website: "Individuals whose earning or productive capacity is impaired by a physical or mental disability, including those related to age or injury may be paid sub-minimum wages pursuant to a certificate issued by the Secretary of Labor ... Employment at less than the minimum wage is authorized to prevent curtailment of opportunities for employment for workers with disabilities. "

  • @ozmoroid and "a special minimum wage of $4.25 per hour applies to employees under the age of 20 during their first 90 consecutive calendar days of employment with an employer." In these cases the $7.25 minimum wage rule and the exceptions for disabled and new, young job seekers actually gives those disadvantaged people an advantage in the job market. Anyway, here's my question for you: What minimum wage would Jesus pay?

  • without a minimum wage you will end up with slave wages. Most workers at Macdonald don't make more money unless they min wage goes up. You cant make a living off 5$ a hour. Your acting as if people washing dishes are making 40$ an hour.

  • Loose minimum wage, and the bottom goes down. As the bottom gets pulled down. Everyone else gets pulled down. Why do you think people in union friendly areas make more livable wages? Even if your not in a union.

  • Sorry brock but this video is all over the place.

You start off with the rather bizarre analysis that we may as well set the minimum wage at $1000 as at $7.50 then by the end of the video you give the pragmatic reality which precludes us from doing so (ie, the consequences of setting it too high). If you know that then why make the ludicrous claim in the first place?

You need to decide what your opposition is imo, is it the level at which it is set or the principle itself?

  • Watch again brother!

  • You obviously have a different system in the US. In the UK we implemented a minimum wage a few years ago but over here many people earn more than a minimum wage so, using your example, a retina surgeon would earn considerably more on an hourly rate than a dish washer. I hadn't realised they earnt the same in the US until i watched your video.

    *turns sarcasm off*

  • Well, it is obvious you believe in your talking points. I've worked with the poor; Vietnam Vets, Battered Women and people with serious mental conditions that have thrown onto the street because the agency helping them was defunded. I wonder if you could look any of these people in the eye and recount what you said in your video... your channel is "TheAtheistAntidote2?" What are you really saying? That Jesus doesn't care about those that can't put themselves up by their own bootstraps?

  • @DavidRandallCurtis

I respect your intentions & your work. However, disagreeing with your "Government is the poverty fix" solution does not equate my not caring for the poor. My Christian faith teaches above all to care for the least of these. Jesus talked endlessly about the poor. This is hardly lost on me. However, he was speaking to the individual. We as Christians are to meet the needs of those around us. NOT farm that responsibility out to an incompetent Govt in order to FELL good.

  • there's that word again brock...."reality".

you're not a realist brock..... you're cryptic. so lets get real, if ANY business big or small cant afford the currrent joke that is the minimum wage... they probably shouldnt be in business.

i just don't see how you can make a video like this in the face of 20 years of wage stagnation and skyrocketing costs of living, insurance, transportation etc.

any business has to be profitable enough to survive in the market is was created in NO...?

  • @MpowerdAPE - So it's better to have nearly 20% of the population unemployed so that the lucky ones can make a few dollars more than their job is worth?

Reality used to be a friend of yours.

  • @thereprieve you think 20 % of the population is unemployed because the minimum wage is 7.50 an hour?

  • @MpowerdAPE - Tis but one spoke in the wheel ineptitude that plagues our economy.

  • @thereprieve then why bring it up... i mean, why "that" spoke. especially as it hasnt risen in almost 20 years...? how is that realistic....?

  • @MpowerdAPE - Uhhh... because to fix the whole, you have to fix the parts. It has risen, nearly every state has increased the minimum wage. It's double what it was 20 years ago in most states.

  • @thereprieve the minimum wage has not doubled in 20 years, not in current or 1996 dollars. it HAS doubled, on average since, 1982 BUT, adjusted for inflation...? it has gone down.

you didnt bother to provide links for your BS. so i shouldnt be expected to provide my own. does that sound fair...? if it doesnt... then i think you should go ahead and try.

dont worry, it only took me a few minutes. have at it......

im a little dissappointed... i didnt expect made-up facts from you.

  • as an employer for the past 11 years, i call BS.

  • @gothatfunk

your "business" is in what Germany?

  • @TheAtheistAntidote no, my business is in the UK, where a minimum wage applies, as do laws stipulating i must give my employees 4 weeks paid holiday per year. i am fine with this, as i think working people deserve minimum guarantees that they will earn a fair wage, and not feel trapped.

  • Say i have a needy immigrant who can't speak English, and therefore can't interact with customers, but can understand body language to do simple tasks around the facility. I could just not hire him because with his lacking communication ability, it just isn't worth it at the minimum wage rate, but at a couple bucks below what that rate might be, it would be worth it. And guess what? The immigrant is elatedly happy to work for the lower wage, rather than selling roses near a freeway entrance ramp

  • @1tmoch then no one will get a decent paying job because they will take all the low paying work.

  • @jordler Not the people who have the higher skills (including fluent native language knowledge). You'd market yourself. There'd still be high wages for high stress, high skill jobs.

  • what brock doesn't ever seem to address is the accumulative power of wealth. if you are super-rich, even if you just inherited your wealth, you basically have leverage over everyone less rich - you can pay more for property. thus, you own more of the limited resources, and can extract rent from others for use of your property. who's more likely to earn a billion dollars in their life, a billionaire or a "poor"? if we support this unbalanced system, why shouldn't we take responsibility...

  • ... for those who fall by the wayside - maybe by tragic circumstances?

now, brock may say, "no one should force me to take care of anyone else," and hey, i can sympathize. in fact, whereas brock seems to be wedded to libertarianism as some sort of ideal, i sometimes wonder whether anarchy (non-statism) may be a better ideal - and i'm a person who thinks obama is one of the smartest, most morally wise presidents of all time. but, brock will never adress problems such as free rider issues or...

  • ...commons problems. i think brock is a "conservative" first and foremost because of cultural and social issues. namely, he grew up around and seeks validation from people who are conservative (and christian) and thus he thinks of himself as conservative, a priori. i think it's easier for brock to think of himself as a winner by association with the conservative group than it is for brock to think of himself as a winner by virtue of being brock; and that his political identity is ...

  • ...noncognitive.

anyway, i hope that we will one day find an antidote for the anti-intellectual nature of the modern gop. unfortunately, i think it's going to take a great bit more damage before the tide turns.

  • @ExUnoPlures

Thanks for the head shirking buddy. You can send me the bill later..

But it's all pabulum. I reject your Capitalism is money monarchy model. I've heard it all before.

You and others are chasing the wind when you use the Gov't to purse some equal outcome shadow of Statism. And that's what it is! Capitalism isn't perfect. It's just better than everything else. Equal opportunity should be the goal. And although we haven't perfected it, America is just that!
