300 joules is enough to cause noticeable crushing, but it's not nearly enough to rip or shred aluminum. With 300J you might be able to reduce the can's diameter by 15%. The most i've been able to crush a can without sheering or ripping the metal was a 40% reduction of the can's diameter (using 1.5kJ and many turns).
You are correct sir. The smaller one is a defib. capacitor. The smaller one was is rated at 5 kv, and the larger one is rated at 6kv. Unfortunately the impedance of my voltage divider threw off the accuracy by 1000% which caused me to overvolt the defib cap :(
