I like the "basics" of the song and Miss. Wells does a good job. My only problem is the first verse of the song. Why would you go to a friend's house to visit and sit there and look through magazines? I would go visit and converse, not go to read magazines. Just my observation.
@dwshook she ain't going to look at magazines. she might've needed some spiritual help and asked for the bible, the word of God. and when i go to peoples houses i always look to see where there Bible is at because maybe if they don't have one, id on't want to be at they's house because they might be agents of the devil.
"Dust on the Bible" was on the flip side of "How Far is Heaven" on a 1950's 45. Or was it the other way around? I still have it 58 years later, but alas, I wore it out when I was four years old! Miss Kitty is as classy today as she was when I met her fifty years ago. And, her Spanish Bean Soup is my favorite! Find the recipe, its simple.
Watching Kitty Wells sing up there reminds me of my Grandmother.... Thank you for the up-load. I always loved to listen to Kitty Wells music myself. But my Granny's hair and the way she dressed was the same way as Kittys'. And she loved to sing those old songs. Thank You So Much.
I think that this song was the first song written by Willy Nelson that was recorded. It has been recorded many, many times. Johnny and Kitty was my nieghbores when I lived in Madison Tn.
@pro3tlb Not according to my information. The song was written by the Bailes Brothers. The Kitty Wells record lists four people: Johnnie Bailes - Walter Bailes - Zeke Clements - Muriel Wright (Kitty Wells).
@pro3tlb The late,Walter Bailes,of the Bailes Brothers, wrote this song, and they recorde it. Kitty Wells, then recorded this, making more of a hit of this.
Any possibility that you could email the music to me at fayetvil@cvctx.com ? thanks.

If I am correct, Philip Donnelly was the composer. The Bailes Bros were the first to record this beautiful song.

I think you're thinking of Family BIble, which was written by Willie Nelson. Dust on the Bible was written by Johnny Bailes.
Similar titles, but different writers.

@pro3tlb Yeah Ive heard this song sung by Hank. Which predates Willie.
