I don´t think you´re using a plain echo. Maybe a reverb box? Try using less decay and a plate reverb. That may improve the sound. (If u don´t have something nice to say, you better say nothing). ;)

Haunting. I'd say lose the idian style r&b note shifting thingy. Two reasons; first, the effect doesn't really work, and second, you seem to have a talent for holding a note perfectly, which is a surprisingly rare talent. You should capitalise on that.
