This is unbelievable! Why on earth did the twit not even bother to learn the music to O Canada before he went out there? Very insulting, even today, to Canada. Still, what goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas!
This sounds more like "O Christmas Tree"! Pretty pathetic. All the guy probably knows about Canada is Toronto, the city that the rest of Canada hates. Can you imagine the uproar if a Canadian brutalized the "Star Spangled Banner"?
I am Canadian, and a professionally trained singer.
This is one of my absolute favourite videos ever!! I laugh every single time I hear it and talk about it and I even sing, it as a song, it's own horrible, yet hilarious, song.
I don't know what was more underwhelming, the horribly mangled rendition of O Canada or the "crowd" for our canadian brand of football in Las Vegas! This is one time that I wished that the saying was true: "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." (LOL)
So you're tellin' me they didn't have an anthem for this guy to listen to at least once prior to singing it. I guess it was 94 and Las Vegas...oh well...still funny to hear.
Not sure what is more embarasing. The song or the attempt to expand into cities like Vegas,Birmingham, and Shreveport back then. Do miss San Antonio, and Memphis though. Those fans understood, and loved the CFL.
I was at that game in Las Vegas...At half-time we crossed path with the singer, I told him, this is how you sing «O Canada» and started singing it. The poor man was embarrassed...
Oh my god the key change at 0:46 is the best part.
Then the part at the end when you thing he's gonna get the last couple notes right and go up to the tonic but he stays on the same note. Oh god that's great.
Before I comment on this, I'm a native southern US guy who follows hockey a bit. I've heard O Canada many many times. Wonderful song, and I hear it from a dual citizen Dennis Morgan who is GREAT here in Nashville.
I FF'd to the 0:22 mark, and heard the "with growing hearts" bit. I promptly vomited and snickered at the same time. Bleccchhh.... Horrible.
I saw this and it didn't piss me off really, just makes you shake your head at this losers arrogance for not at least preparing a little bit. See the look of satisfaction on his face afterwards.Who exactly thought US expansion was a good idea, Las Vegas and Shreveport, c'mon.
@clubhouseme LOL, it made me laugh too. US expansion was a good idea in principle (heck the expansion fee revenues probably saved the league from folding), but I agree going to places like Las Vegas, Birmingham and Shreveport were not good ideas. I seem to recall Vegas' final home game (against the Bombers) was barely attended by 2,000 people and they estimated around 800 people made the trip from Winnipeg.
Omggggggg I had to come back to this after just seeing Aguillera do the US anthem at the Super Bowl! lmfao!!!!! I can hardly type I am cryin' here! Last note was incredible though I thought lol and the applause from the 122 beer drinkers in Vegas who were just there between slots, wonder why CFL didnèt last state side! lol
Y'know, if he had no idea what he was doing, and just came out and did, like, a swingin' "Tony Curtis in Vegas" style national anthem, I'd have been cool with that... at least it would have been interesting and shown a modicum of effort..
I am canadian too, altho it funny, this singer do not show any profesionalism at at.. he's off tone, don't know lyrics, shame on him... not because its a canadian anthem but because this doesn't show me any good signer talent.
I am torn between feeling offended as a Canadian, offended as a musician, and somehow physically violated. However I think the latter is the strongest of sensations. Excuse me, I think I need a piping hot shower.
Wow, Although I don't beleive any disrespect was intended here, it was hard to listen to. I remember watching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers play the Las Vegas Posse in Vegas and the summer heat almost killing the players with oxygen masks on the sidelines. Good memory though and thanks for posting.
As A Canadian I find this Immensely funny. And the best part is I can laugh cause I know exactly how he is messing up. I can't do that with the Star Spangled Banner yet. Go Horrible renditions of National Anthems!
It's bad enough that he's inventing the melody and lyrics, but even worse, he has no sense of pitch, awful pronunciation, and a complete lack of musicality.
This was SAD !!!! SO sad. However, .... I refuse to be offended by ignorance (which is what was displayed) even though I am a proud Canadian ............ with 50% American heritage of which I am equally proud.
It was over 16 years ago so my memory is pretty vague, but I'm pretty sure it was Dionne Warwick who sang the U.S. anthem.
After her turn, Mark Lee, the CBC announcer, quipped something along the lines of "A classic rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner...and that version of O Canada, one I'm sure you've never heard before..."
@patrolmanpete So, Dionne Warwick sang my national anthem after Dennis Park's 'weird' version of your national anthem, eh? Fair enough. Thank you very much indeed.
LOL, holy Jeffrey! Outrageous! Never in my life have I heard your national anthem sung to a different tune. Good thing I know the real music and the real lyrics to that, your royal anthem that is also the national anthem of the United Kingdom and, of course, my national anthem. Sorry for being curious, but who performed 'The Star-Spangled Banner' before or after Dennis K.C. Parks' contraversial performance of 'O Canada'? Anyhow, thanks for the upload. Greetings from the United States of America!
@dondonp12004 This rendition sounds more like "Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree" I remember almost pissing myself laughing so hard when this clown came on TV and sang,,,or tried too anyway..
At least he came to a game in Canada and got it right,so all's not so bad....I wonder where he's at now??
@wrxmike123 I know about that 'controversial' perfromance (IMHO) but I don't know what Dennis Parks was up to. I wonder: was my national anthem ('The Star-Spangled Banner') performed either before or after your national anthem ('O Canada') at a 1994 CFL game in Vegas? I'm just curious.
@wrxmike123 I was just curious. Who sang my national anthem 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at a 1994 CFL game in Vegas either before or after Dennis Parks' performance of 'O Canada'?
Just look at his smug expression at the end. He thought he was the best of the best! Please tell me that this idiot didn't have much of a career after. :S
We just finished hosting the G20 summit in Toronto. The local police force spent a lot of money on sound cannons to keep unruly protestors at bay. In hindsight, it would have been cheaper and more effective to hire KC Parks. Next time.
Oh please, please what are you singing? That has to be the worst rendition of the Canadian national anthem. Did this clown even listen to it before trying to sing it? He wasn't even close to the melody let alone the words.
If memory serves me correctly, the CFL invited this poor soul to Hamilton the following week to sing "O Canada" before the T-Cats game. This time he nailed it. I guess practice makes perfect.
this lame guy did not even learn the lyrics. Was this guy actually a singing performer in his days? No wonder i did not know that. (He should have stuck to his day job..... thats what my coworkers always say..... and i can sing... ahahhahahah)
I suppose if he never heard it sound before and someone just gave him the lyrics he might come up with something like this. Ha ha ha! I heard he sang it perfectly two weeks later in Toronto.
I remember this well. Opening night for the CFL in Las Vegas. It went downhill from there. ;o) I wonder which genius decided Las Vegas would be a good expansion choice?
back in the early 90's, the league needed that American cash to keep the league going, much like how the Winnipeg Jets and Nordiques had trouble due to the low Cdn. dollar. The CFL team that was in Alabama was very successful. Today, I agree though, Halifax (or Moncton) need a team to make it 10 (with Ottawa).
I was a kid when this happened, but I remember this like it was yesterday. What a job butchering our anthem. People were ticked! But he redeemed himself when he was invited to Hamilton and did the anthem there for a Ti-Cats game.
As an American, I apologize profusely for this loser butchering your national anthem. We didn't mean anything by it. The man just simply sucked! This was at Sam Boyd Stadium in Vegas. Of course, CFL fans know it only lasted a year in Vegas. There was an XFL team there in 2001. It was well supported by the community, but not supported by the USA as a whole.
@Terry7111967 as a Canadian ...No need to apologize..its this idiot who made a fool of himself all by himself and @ 1:22 you can hear the camera man sniker and the smirk on his face @ 1:26 makes me want to punch old people!
@Terry7111967 No need to apologize. He actually made up for it a couple weeks later at a CFL game in Hamilton. That's how bad he felt for screwing up our anthem.

baltimore also worked well, but the NFL arrival would have killed the Stallions

Starting at 0:50 he is singing O Canada to the song of "Oh Christmas Tree". I guess the syllables work out! LOL

With growing hearts? LOL
I can't believe he chose to hold that last note for so long... like he was saying "I really nailed that one!" What a joke.

@Terry7111967 no worries. We apologize for sending Celine Dion to Vegas to torture Americans. Maybe it's just karma evening out? Haha.

That guys absolutely terrible.
XFL was in Vergas? That was run by Vince Mcmahon lol. Went under pretty fast though. Kinda sucks.

@Terry7111967 No need to apologize. He actually made up for it a couple weeks later at a CFL game in Hamilton. That's how bad he felt for screwing up our anthem.

Did he redeem himself at an Argonauts game or a Tiger-Cats game? I could have sworn it was at SkyDome in Toronto.
