  • I get an International Driver Permit every year in the States when I visit and bring that back to Korea with me. I have a motorcycle license from America, and Korea is a signatory for the IDP. Works fine.

  • I've got a scholarship to teach english in korea in a couple of months for a year and i ride bikes (SUZUKI INTRUDERS FTW =P) and am wondering how much i can look at (in NZD) buying a bike over there??

  • There are motorcycle schools in Korea??? A license is needed??? In my experience, Korean motorcyclists are above the law. They can drive wherever and however they want.

  • I now about 4 or 5 international, but Korean motorcycle exam is an easiest of them. But their car test IS cool.

  • You are forgetting that 75% of motorbikes you see in the city are on the sidewalk....hello?

  • yay, he passed!

  • I wanted to get a license, been riding for a few years, but everybody says the driving course is designed to make sure almost everybody fails. Even experienced drivers from other countries fail the test! It's obviously not a good test from what I can see.

  • What a joke.

Granted if you can't ride a bike properly you would definitely fail the test but it's not really a 'road' test at all and is hardly applicable for real world riding.

No wonder so many people don't bother and just punt around on 125cc bikes in Korea, like me.

  • haha.. no problem. the test is pointless. its designed not to test your abilities, but to weed out people who can't ride a motorbike. about 30 people lined up for the test, only 2 passed.

  • Thanks for posting this. I get asked about this test all the time. As I took the test ages ago, I was wondering how I would go about doing it short of re-creating the course myself.

For what it's worth, I have NEVER seen a more useless, pointless, and impractical test in my life. At what point in a bikers life does he have the need to drive as slowly as possible and make two 90-degree turns without putting his feet down?

  • Actually, it is a very good test, anyone can ride straight. Have you ever seen the Police motorcycle course, most all of 80 hrs is slow speed stuff, tight turns... it shows total control of the bike

  • search Police Motorcycle Training"" on youtube

  • a good test if you're only riding below speeds of 10 km/h. While I learned something from the test, there were somethings I needed to learn and didn't....such as counter steering and leaning, as well as braking in an emergency. Far more important than being able to make a 90 degree turn at 10km/h without putting my foot down. Those motorcycle cops are impressive though.
